This is silly and I can't believe I have to say something about it, but here we are.

Interaction has to be mutual. If you are bombarding someone with posts/comments/PMs/whatever trying to get their attention and it is clearly unwanted, cut it the fuck out.

Spamming someone's profile with a bunch of cut and paste nonsense because they aren't giving you the attention you want is stupid. That isn't roleplaying. No one else even sees it unless they know it's there, you're just harassing someone one on one. No one is required to sell for you if they don't want to, outside of treating canon XWF events as such. Matches, etc.

Furthermore, in case anyone is unfamiliar with the term "godmodding," what it refers to is taking full control over someone else's IC character or universe and doing with it what you see fit, without any consent or input from anyone else. Such as, I don't know, let me just think of something off the top of my head at random, BURNING SOMEONE'S GOD DAMN HOUSE DOWN.

Think about this: if I just decide one day to post a segment where I show up to James Raven's house and murder his family, sell his kids into slavery, and rape his dog... should he have to sell it for me if he doesn't want to? No. That's and I probably have mental issues.

So - if your character's whole gimmick is "post a bunch of threads begging for attention" - that's fine. Knock yourself out. But don't assume anyone is REQUIRED to give you that attention. Hell, maybe THEIR character's IC response is to ignore you because they know it's bothering you. MAYBE that is part of the story. But once it crosses over to IRL annoyances like a dozen comment alerts a day or repeated PMs, that's an issue. Once it turns into godmodding where you're causing changes to someone's story without their permission, that's an issue.

And frankly, some of you should know better.

Since the initial Hooded Man seg, I have sold the story within the context of promos to a variety of degrees. From anger (Sar being pissed at Vinnie for shitty security) to humor (hiring the idiotic team of Bobbi and Max to act as security and detectives) to a narrative that shows she is seriously spooked and worrisome (in the hospital with Kenzi). In fact, I have mentioned and sold the Hooded Man issue in something to the effect of 8 or 9 out of the 11 or 12 promos I have written since the angle first began...including a reference or two in promos not for this fed! I have NOT, however, sold it in any way on the boards IC, that much I can certainly admit to. But! I have also DRASTICALLY cut down on my IC board work in the last few months for a few reasons.

This brings us to why this thread even got posted. In between logging in last night to check a PM and then logging in a bit later to submit a match, I had 8 (eight!) new comments on my personal page from Hooded Man, which brings the total amount of comments on my page to a staggering 39 (thirty nine!) and I snapped. I said this:

I think the point is though, that a back and forth on the boards isn't something someone HAS to do. If one person wants it and the other doesn't, then that's it. Post on the boards all you want! Like you said, Shane, activity is great. But profile comments aren't board activity. That's just annoying shit.

True. I remember having to remove plenty of profile comments from people in the past. I also told those people they could block the offender which stops that person's ability to post profile comments and solves the whole issue. No reason to go crazy about it.

Personally I thought the whole burning down of the house story was one of the more interesting storylines going on and I was curious to see where it went. Now we'll probably never know! lol

It CAN be interesting, but you know that sort of thing requires consent. That's nothing new. I think the way they have responded to it is the best it can be responded to. Take it, flip it, make it funny... but I think it's pretty straightforward and accepted that you can't just go alter someone else's story/universe/character on a whim.

I don't think Lacklan's response was too crazy, she just posted a comment that was kind of angry. We've all done worse. She didn't come to me and complain, either, I just saw it and responded on my own because I don't want that sort of thing going on.

I suppose the part that throws me off is how, as you said, there was SOME sort of IC response to the burning house. I figured there must have at least been some coordination between all of them if it went that far after the fact, but if it was genuinely unwanted they probably should have pumped the breaks as soon as that segment aired? Instead of play along at all? I dunno.

As a guy who likes to do random IC posts myself and stir shit up, I really liked the idea of other people possibly doing the same and sparking more activity and more thinking outside of the box. I know you remember how fun it was back in the day when we'd have dozens of threads and back-and-forths going on outside of RPs. This thread today just struck me as "damn, there goes that hope" to some extent. Now Soldier and I have to post even more insane BS to make up for the loss!

I think this raises an interesting point - if it isn't meant to lead to a match, then why does it exist?

What would the endgame be if on-show interaction isn't the goal? I'm all for forum back and forth, but IMO it serves to be asupplement for the main crux of the fed, which is the shows and the matches therein.

It wouldn't be apparent to anyone that doesn't know Sarah and Kenzi outside of the fed, but I personally know that Sarah was planning on completely ignoring it. Kenzi took it and ran with it because Kenzi will sell literally anything, just for the fuck of it.

Lacklan actually posted a LOT of threads not long ago but mostly got no sold herself in them, outside of a handful of people who would interact. I agree it can totally be a lot of fun if everyone is into it and having fun with it, BUT it can also be a shitshow if things go too far.

Now I know that may sound harsh that I called it being victimized, but at the end of the day it haunts you. And you feel for a few days well, that's that then. My characters being made fun of and there's no coming back from that. And others will forever see you as the weak link going on from that, and jump on the bandwagon.

If THM didnt want to face Sarah, but wanted to play mind games instead, he could have picked a "champion" to wrestle in his place and work his gimmick more like a master mind / manager. I feel like there is a missed opportunity here.

Also, I don't know what everyone elses policies are, but I always contact anyone that I'm working with to work out ideas for segments unless they're just your standard match run in ir backstage attack (for a show that I know they are booked on) I dont think the issue here is the angle, just some if the more trollish aspects of what was going on.

With that said, if any of this stems from ooc heat, which reading over THM response earlier about feeling victimized and wanting Sarah to feel that way as well... maybe? Idk, but if so, then perhaps it is best to just drop it.

This is a good thread. I mean that, because I think it's good to clarify these things from time to time. I also feel kind of bad because I made a jokey pithy comment on Twitter about Sarah no selling the house fire. Sorry!

I'm of two minds on this. I love slugging it out on the boards to build heat and develop angles and storylines. The fire thing did go a little too far though and seems like the kind of thing that should have been an OOC collab to set it up. To me it's just a form of respect. Of course, what's good for the goose can be good for the gander and I'm not innocent of similar conduct. Like when Engy got a shit swirly and I retaliated by having Engy give Theo's wife a shit swirly. Thankfully, it ended at that, but I could see how something like that could end up being an efed nuclear arms race of sorts.

I think I understand what Hooded Man was saying about getting "Sarah'd" and wanting to strike back. I'm 95% sure I know who Hoodie is, so I get what he's saying. Sarah has a tendency in character to hammer on certain characters/topics over and over again, so yeah, this whole angle seems like a reaction to OOC heat which as Vinnie (I think) said is just....not the way to go about this. I'm reasonably sure Sarah would have been willing to work on this angle WITH you. As it stood it just became awkward and antagonistic. Dude, just chill. If Sarah reams you out character just call her dumb and don't take it personally. Maybe post some dank memes about how she was in a shitty vampire movie. I dunno.

I know when I first got here, I HATED Sarah. Read her RPs, then went at it with her for the Federweight, and I thought she was a bitch. But then I worked with her for War Games and remembered.........this is a GAME. The way we act IC is usually different than how we are IRL.

If she said something offensive, it was very likely to get heat and push her character. Which is to be expected in character. Now, if she sent a PM and was harassing you, that'd be different. But at that point I wouldn't make it about IC, I'd take it up with her or Vinnie personally and figure out the problem.

Somehow this has been the most active, passionate, and love/hate filled thread on the boards in some time, with an always refreshing pinch of triggered spice. It also has apparently killed off one of the very few storylines going on that everyone was aware of at least to some degree. It's weird how I'm one of the only ones who sees that or thinks it matters IN AN E FED. What happened to you guys?

Seriously though. Put some time and effort into creativity and storylines that spark daily activity again and maybe weirdo threads like these wouldn't be the highlight of the day/week. The absolute BEST angles and storylines I ever saw play out in efedding over that past two decades were sparked by UNPLANNED (ooc wise) attacks, insults, reactions, counters, etc... etc... Yet now anyone who sees this will be afraid to even dare try something like that.

Learn to meet in the middle and exercise common sense on both fronts. Don't go to extremes with using PMs, profile comments, ratings, etc as IC tools. START going back to extremes using minor IC posts (yes there are several sections for those) as IC tools. The only thread that even comes close to competing with this one is VV's new shirt thread, and even it is dwarfed by this one in reply and view count. It's staggering how dead these boards are and how so few of you couldn't care less unless it's an ooc thread. I'm reminded of why I at one point limited access to even viewing the OOC forum several years ago while I was owner. Maybe this is all my fault because I got careless for a couple years and stopped reminding people this is an E FED before I eventually stepped down as owner, but I still do care and I am one of the few who has the ability to see what's really happening and I can clearly see the E FED is in trouble if this is what sparks activity.

Watch the transformation and growth this place experiences over the next couple months if you guys can focus again. Watch how many talented, NEW names we attract and retain instead of scaring away with IC sections that are like ghost towns.

HM and Sarah, I do hope you guys can both keep the storyline going. ...or even start new ones that get people talking IN character if you guys can't look past this and play the game together.

Let's see how many people feel the need to address what I said with MORE OOC, and let's see those same people NOT put equal or greater effort into any IC threads (outside of RPing) today. Lets see which staff member replies and tries to snuff out the fire I just tried to light under everyone's ass.
