Yeah, Theo's 100% right.
We don't want a scenario where people are like self-grading or coming to us like "hey bro I hit these categories better than so and so" - that's no fun. In most cases, almost all of them really, it just comes down to a general sense of "this one was a better read." That's really hard to describe in terms of categories and points, etc.
It's part of the reason I always refrain from voting for the "Of The Month" things - I don't want people deciding "oh see that's what Vinnie like, lemme write that way!" I promise you that wouldn't work anyway - I like a LOT of stuff. There's really not one style or one genre that I would look at as better than the others or worse than the others - for instance, I'm not really a big Sci-Fi or Fantasy reader IRL. It's just not my bag, usually. But I have seen some REALLY great RPs here in those categories (I have also seen some super bad ones, BUT I DIGRESS.) I think this is actually a benefit to the judging because I can look at gritty realism and compare it to wild comedy or insane fantasy and be able to level them off and apply the same standards to them all, even if a casual read would make them seem impossible to compare. It doesn't hurt that I actually studied this stuff and have a degree in writing, but whatever, anyone can do it really.
Be fun. Have fun. Write something that YOU would want to read - other people will agree with you.
