E-Fed Pet Peeves - Mickey Kinkade - 03-11-2021 Title's pretty self-explanatory. I'm sure we've all seen a lot in this game that makes us annoyed or irritated, at least once time or another. I really don't have any besides someone that doesn't do their homework on an oppenent before roleplaying. How about you all? re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Corey Smith - 03-11-2021 Graveyard promos! Whether they be of the "spooky kid" variety or the "aping cheap emotional depth" variety. Just NO! re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - B.O.B. D - 03-11-2021 The same people getting Title shots over and over(and sometimes even OVER) again. Feuds are one thing, but when someone's just being handed constant shots without earning them, or at the very least it making sense IC, it can be annoying. E-Fed Pet Peeves - Diesel - 03-11-2021 Linking to past roleplays in new roleplays... Hate it. If you can't bring me up to speed without making me read something else entirely, then in my view you're doin' it wrong. RIGHT EDGAR!?????? E-Fed Pet Peeves - Charlie Nickles - 03-11-2021 When I lose. I hate that shit. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Corey Smith - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 01:45 PM)BigD Said: The same people getting Title shots over and over(and sometimes even OVER) again. Or worse yet, people who just get HANDED titles. Fuckin' pricks E-Fed Pet Peeves - R.L. Edgar - 03-11-2021 My biggest pet peeve are people who take real wrestlers and make them really funny and interesting. Yeah, that’s right! Fuck Diesel ! re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Lacklan - 03-11-2021 If you guys aren't careful, my next promo will feature everything listed in this thread. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Ned Kaye - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 05:19 PM)Lacklan Said: Y'know, I really hate it whenever people sign over control of Thursday Night Anarchy to me. It's a real big pet peeve of mine. E-Fed Pet Peeves - ALIAS - 03-11-2021 Gimmick killing. If someone is playing an Olympic gold medallist character, don't get on Wikipedia and say "Look! They didn't win shit!" Guess what? Our universe is fictional. Wikipedia looks different (more scat obviously) just like the wrestling world looks different. Shit, the fucking TV guide even looks different. Sell the gimmicks, kids! E-Fed Pet Peeves - Charlie Nickles - 03-11-2021 oh here's one: female characters so clearly written to be nothing more than the libidinal desire of the male gaze E-Fed Pet Peeves - HeavensToBetsy - 03-11-2021 I hate it when dramatic brats overreact to stuff... It's me, I'm the overdramatic brat. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Atara Raven - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 07:50 PM)Demos Said: oh here's one: Do you like my pictures tho? re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Corey Smith - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 08:12 PM)Atara Themis Said:(03-11-2021, 07:50 PM)Demos Said: oh here's one: YES! E-Fed Pet Peeves - Atara Raven - 03-11-2021 I'm not a huge fan of a lack of transparency in the judging criteria. Also grimace at those places that put huge emphasis on spelling and grammar. I'm writing fiction for one, and not everyone is on the same level in age, academics, etc. Not a fan of using promo/mic skills as a talking point about why someone can't beat your character physically. Think that blends with OOC a little and really come on... Putting RL perspectives/opinions towards dilemma's that exist in the fantasy and those those handlers who use fantasy as an excuse to be dicks. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Charlie Nickles - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 08:12 PM)Atara Themis Said:(03-11-2021, 07:50 PM)Demos Said: oh here's one: Your character's sexuality doesn't seem to be written for a male audience, but rather a natural extension of a woman's love for herself and her own body. Women's sexuality can certainly be detached from/existing outside of the male gaze and your writing seems to capture that pretty well. It's the difference between an Atara Themis and a, say, Knightley ;P re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Charlie Nickles - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 08:31 PM)Atara Themis Said: I'm not a huge fan of a lack of transparency in the judging criteria. i hope grammar doesn't count much in judging because I write between past tense and present tense intermittently in the same promo all the tiiiiiimmmme E-Fed Pet Peeves - Atara Raven - 03-11-2021 Thats not what I asked Charlie! The pictures! For real thanks, were where you two weeks ago when I was struggling on how not to seem hypocritical against her... re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - ChristianMorphine - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 07:50 PM)Demos Said: oh here's one: I see that a lot, mostly written by mysoginistic virgins who've never touched a boob. A close friend of mine was harassed online by another roleplayer for the past 7 years in every IRL fed she was in, because she was a female into roleplaying. The creep would make take someone like, I dunno, "Nidia" and would just talk about their tits and ass and about how sexy they are. Another weirdo around the IRL scene was sommeone who'd always play Tay Conti and WOULD NOT SHUT THE FUCK UP about her having braces, and how she was a g@m3rg!rl. E-fedders are fucking weird. I don't deal with letting harassment like that online or IRL or fly. That shit's not cool. A pet peeve I have (being a bisexual male) is seeing misrepresentation by someone when writing a LGBT character, mostly in the sense of using nothing but stereotypes instead of writing a human being. Very, very few people can correctly write these kinds of characters without leaning towards unrealisim. Even rarer have I seen anyone attempt a transgender character. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a trans character before. Some say it's a touchy subject, but shit, do the research. Know what kind of fed you're in. I've written characters before who have alternate sexualities, I've written women, and never once have I emphasied a character's gender or sexuality unless I absolutely needed too. I wrote them as professinal wrestlers who just so happen to have a different lifestyle then what society tells them to have. The people who're so uncreative and are perveted enough to get their rocks off by typing a 500 word RP about a made up person is beyond my comprehension on what the word "fucked" means. I've mentioned before in the Discord, but the homophobia seen in some feds have been enough for me to take hiatuses. The e-fedding world is still very much shrouded by a very conservative train of thought that is gross and has no place in 2021. Hopefully that changes one day and there's more diversity, and less shit heads that act like it's the early-2000s. They need to grow up and stop being a bunch of ignorant bitches. It's not hard to be decent humans. This is probably entering bitch sessions now, shit. Rant over. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Prof. Bobby Bourbon - 03-12-2021 This might fly in the face of a lot of people, but it's the complaint that there's a lack of clarity in how RPs are judged. There is no rubric. In my experience, it's handled by a panel, not just one person, and generally it's unanimously agreed upon. As soon as there is a rubric, a few things will happen. 1. Writing quality drops to shit since everybody writes to the rubric 2. Massive bitch sessions from people who wrote to the rubric just as well as their opponent but didn't write as well as their opponent 3. Assholes like me who will DECIDEDLY write against the rubric and be seen as a spammer for telling stories within an eFed because we are no good punks who hate conformity and the imposed authority of the rubric. That said; I feel if we are covering every type of eFedding niche we possibly can in the XWF, perhaps it's up to the discression of those above me to establish a rubric for a show to see what works and what doesn't, but I wouldn't do it myself so there's that. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Dean Rose - 03-12-2021 probably my lack of promo skill to be honest yeah, thats my pet peeve re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Corey Smith - 03-12-2021 (03-11-2021, 11:58 PM)ChristianMorphine Said:(03-11-2021, 07:50 PM)Demos Said: oh here's one: All of this. Also heres the key to the XWF Gay Bar. As a bisexual Male as well, and somebody who has written gay characters, and as someone writing a character currently questioning their sexuality I concur 100%. Thanlfully that toxic train of thought is a dying breed in the XWF. The efedding world seems to have lesbians aplenty, but well written gay male characters are still a rarity. Chalk it up to the hobby still being driven by Cis straights boys I guess. Some of whom are basically Incels. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Corey Smith - 03-12-2021 (03-12-2021, 02:08 AM)Bobby Bourbon Said: This might fly in the face of a lot of people, but it's the complaint that there's a lack of clarity in how RPs are judged. I smell click counts! Part 2!! E-Fed Pet Peeves - Theo Pryce - 03-12-2021 Poorly sized images in roleplays E-Fed Pet Peeves - R.L. Edgar - 03-12-2021 I don’t think judging transparency is an actual pet peeve of mine. I do believe it could be a positive change though, but it could also stay like it is, like it has, forever and this place still be great. I do think you could easily do something like this: Story 8/10 Relevance 10/10 Character development 8/10 Trash talk 9/10 Total: 35/40 And it could help people, especially newer people have a tangible metric by which they can use as feedback and see exactly where they can improve. Would be a welcome change, but also not a big deal if it never happens. I would say my actual biggest pet peeve is that while in the XWF, people treating anything other than XWF as king. I don’t care that characters go into other Feds and bounce around... but when you’re here competing, I think using the history from other Feds should be seen as a detriment or a risk. The smack talk you use about accomplishments in other Feds should bear no weight here. Because are we writing in character that the XWF is the top wrestling brand in the world, or is it just another place? re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - "Loverboy" Vinnie Lane - 03-12-2021 Oh snap are we talking rubrics? Here's a secret - there is one. I made it myself. We don't always use it, because it's just not always needed. At the end of the day, judging writing is always going to be a little bit subjective, but Theo and I have extremely similar ideas of "good." I can 99 times out of 100 ask Theo his opinion and will find I have the same one. The bottom line is usually entertainment. Yes it's going to be an issue if there's no relevancy at all. Yes it's going to be an issue if there's no story at all. But all no one thing is a death sentence for an RP other than "did I enjoy reading this more than I enjoyed reading the other one." That's really all it boils down to. Oh and grammar etc. doesn't really ever come into it other than maybe two instances: 1, if it's SO CLOSE that I need to nitpick in order to get a winner, or 2, the grammar/layout/spelling/whatever actually makes it difficult to read and understand. Other than that I just grit my teeth and tell the copy editor deep inside me to relax. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Charlie Nickles - 03-12-2021 (03-12-2021, 05:28 AM)"Loverboy" Vinnie Lane Said: Oh snap are we talking rubrics? Writing is hard. No one just starts out awesome the moment they first try. Give it time and have fun. The more you enjoy your writing, the more we will enjoy reading it. (03-12-2021, 02:23 AM)Dean Rose Said: probably my lack of promo skill to be honest E-Fed Pet Peeves - Theo Pryce - 03-12-2021 To kind of further elaborate on the judgement transparency thing, Robbie's response really hit it on the head. Like Lane said we do have a rubric, all the things RL mentioned are on there as are some others. But ultimately the reason we haven't made it public isn't because we don't want you to know it it's because we don't want you writing FOR THE RUBRIC. We want you writing what you want.(within the rules of course) This is supposed to be fun and entertaining and if you all feel like you have to write to try and check off all these boxes etc the work will suffer. If you ever want feedback on a specific piece or your work for a rp period you can always ask the GM's and we will provide it for you. If you want some real general tips it's this: We want to see roleplays that develop your character, typically done through story but not always. We want to see you address your opponent and we want to walk away from the roleplay knowing that your character works for a wrestling company. That's really it. Obviously there are other things we look at and how well you do those things matter but if you hit those notes you are going to do well. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - "Loverboy" Vinnie Lane - 03-12-2021 Yeah, Theo's 100% right. We don't want a scenario where people are like self-grading or coming to us like "hey bro I hit these categories better than so and so" - that's no fun. In most cases, almost all of them really, it just comes down to a general sense of "this one was a better read." That's really hard to describe in terms of categories and points, etc. It's part of the reason I always refrain from voting for the "Of The Month" things - I don't want people deciding "oh see that's what Vinnie like, lemme write that way!" I promise you that wouldn't work anyway - I like a LOT of stuff. There's really not one style or one genre that I would look at as better than the others or worse than the others - for instance, I'm not really a big Sci-Fi or Fantasy reader IRL. It's just not my bag, usually. But I have seen some REALLY great RPs here in those categories (I have also seen some super bad ones, BUT I DIGRESS.) I think this is actually a benefit to the judging because I can look at gritty realism and compare it to wild comedy or insane fantasy and be able to level them off and apply the same standards to them all, even if a casual read would make them seem impossible to compare. It doesn't hurt that I actually studied this stuff and have a degree in writing, but whatever, anyone can do it really. Be fun. Have fun. Write something that YOU would want to read - other people will agree with you. E-Fed Pet Peeves - Shawn Warstein - 03-12-2021 Okay….. wow a lot of you have some very good points. Some of my pet peeves are easy. When a place has a rubric. I get it, you want to know how you scored. You want to know where to improv. However like Bobby said, when that happens everything begins to blend and look the same. You wouldn’t have Demos, Corey, Thad, Alias or anyone else you think is worth a damn if they were writing towards a grading scale. Would all of them be doing well still? Of course however maybe you don’t get the transition from Charlie to Demos because it doesn’t score well. Go to any fed around with a public rubric l, and you’ll see 90% of the RPs are exactly the same with characters swapped out and insults flipped. If you want to know what the judges like, do what I use. Read the RP’s for RP’s of the month. What do they all have in common? What sets them apart? Same thing with star of the month. The judges clearly liked their work all month, go back and read what they did. You’ll see that while there isn’t a rubric used every time they all have a similar thing in common…. creativity. Another peeve of mine is match writers who don’t understand the characters involved in the match. It doesn’t happen often here because the writers take the time to reach out and ask if they have a question. But I have also seen that Yes Shawn is a heel, however he’s not going to be on his knees begging for you not to hit him and then go for a low blow. If they knew the character and read up a bit, they would know ‘ok he wouldn’t beg, but he’s def going for that low blow.’ And mine final pet peeve. Like when I lose….. what’s up with that? I’m the bestest ever! I should never lose! Also Love you Theo. Thanks for all you do. You’re okay Vin. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - Centurion - 03-12-2021 (03-12-2021, 05:37 AM)Demos Said:(03-12-2021, 05:28 AM)"Loverboy" Vinnie Lane Said: Oh snap are we talking rubrics? You'll be alright. E-Fed Pet Peeves - R.L. Edgar - 03-12-2021 The banner IS really nice though. re:E-Fed Pet Peeves - "Loverboy" Vinnie Lane - 03-12-2021 Don't be so passive aggressive. I give than banner a 6 out of 10 for relevance, 4 out of 10 for shoot, 1 out of 10 for story, and 7 our of 10 for color scheme AT BEST. Make that banner more relevant. Slap an XWF on there. And we need some sort of meanness. Possibly a gif background with an attached .WAV file that goes like "grrr" or something, but then also shows its softer side in a behind the scenes tender moment where it grapples with its own sexual identity and place in society. Also, add some pink. Everyone should make their banner exactly as I described, so that they can all be the same. |
