I prefer long matches, but I can see both sides of the coin. When I was a GM I'd write 2k word matches for everything on my cards and that was so draining, especially when hardly anyone noticed and the only feedback was bitching about who won or lost.

I think what's most important is giving people material they can use moving forwards, but some people don't read anything but finishes. Keeping everyone happy isn't always possible.
