* About match writing and roster profiles - John Msdison 2.Faggot - 01-18-2014 Just to clear up some confusion, If you do not want your character to look a certain way during a match, you need to be as detailed as possible in your profile. If you just throw down "heel" and ten wrestling moves, well that doesn't give the match writers much to go by. Everyone's idea of a heel can be different. Maybe a heel does everything he can to win, or maybe he's just a dick to the fans. The point is, we don't know for sure unless you tell us. So my advice is to add more meat to your character's strengths and weaknesses. A couple of examples: Wrestler 1 Strengths: Monster heel, attacks opponents relentlessly, sometimes ignores referee, talks trash to his opponent, manager interferes Wrestler 2 Strengths: Cheats, pulls hair, uses weapons, tons of outside interference Wrestler 3 Strengths: Fights with honor, never uses weapons, prefers decisive victories, always goes for the finishing move Wrestler 4 Strengths: Never gives up, able to take a beating, loves weapons Now, it might not be possible to include everything but a match writer should at least be able to pull two things out of the strengths and utilize them in the match. If the writer sees Wrestler 3 then he'll know not to have that wrestler use weapons and to have him use a standard pin if he wins. On that note, match writers should always take a minute to look over someone's profile. You don't have to include every move on their list in the match, but at least try to put in 3-5 of them. When I write, I usually try to get in 5-8 and I'll have the loser get away with at least a signature move or attempt a finisher. Of course, that's if the loser of the match bothered showing up. It's pretty easy, and you can pump out a quality match write-up that's under 500 words. * About match writing and roster profiles - Archie Lawson - 01-18-2014 Whilst Maddy's got you all, I wanted to know what people prefer... Detailed results or shorter ones that are around 500 words? * About match writing and roster profiles - Theo Pryce - 01-18-2014 I thought the results for this past Warfare were good. Earlier matches should be shorter and as the night progresses the matches get longer. Seems like that's how they used to do it in real life. Back when I watched wrestling. Detailed results or shorter ones that are around 500 words? I prefer long matches, but I can see both sides of the coin. When I was a GM I'd write 2k word matches for everything on my cards and that was so draining, especially when hardly anyone noticed and the only feedback was bitching about who won or lost. I think what's most important is giving people material they can use moving forwards, but some people don't read anything but finishes. Keeping everyone happy isn't always possible. * About match writing and roster profiles - John Msdison 2.Faggot - 01-18-2014 Just for the record, 500 words isn't that short for a typical, non-main event, non-title match. It's about double the length of my original post in this thread. Of course, I always give main events and championship matches around 1500-2000 words unless it was a dud contest. * About match writing and roster profiles - Archie Lawson - 01-18-2014 I just want to know for Shove It, the card is great so I think i will do detailed results for it. Sorry to go off topic. * About match writing and roster profiles - Theo Pryce - 01-18-2014 Well you are running the card so I think you can dictate what you want it to be. If you want longer more detailed results go for it. I get the argument for longer results, the writers take their time to do the rps, the results should reflect that but most people skim results anyway, even their own. I think a happy balance can be found. I do agree with John that main events/big matches should be longer than regular matches. Sorry to go off topic. Keep it to what Madison said. 500 per match, unless the judges deem it harder to pick a winner. Then it would be bumped to 700 to allow that battle to continue. For title matches, or higher slotted matches it'll be already bumped to 700 unless it's the main event. 1200 to 1500 should be a main event. Unless it's some gosh awful MAJOR storyline match like a triple cage on barbwire tightropes. Matches should never go into the 2000 range. I myself, look to matches to help dictate where I lacked in my roleplaying. If I was short and I could have kept going. But I fatigued off. It should show, regardless of my Roster Page- regardless of my personality. If I have a hangover from celebrating all weekend. My Monday Match should have me slow and sluggish. Regardless if I'm the Most Fit and Most Athletic. Roleplays dictate winners, why not match quality as well? When I wrote matches, I pitted up each RP. It went 3-3, I cut them up into (Beginning, Middle, End) Regardless of the scores of the Judges. They are in charge of picking a winner. Not picking match scripts. Hence MATCH WRITER. So it's a give or take. Apples to oranges. (For me, I don't care really. I could have the simple match winner and done. Or a brief summary. It's a game, I'm just here for the fun. And to help others get better with writing.) * About match writing and roster profiles - Steve "KingSlayer" Davids - 01-18-2014 Some are here for the reading as well though bruv RE: * About match writing and roster profiles - InfamOusUser - 01-18-2014 (01-18-2014, 03:58 PM)SteveDavids Said: Some are here for the reading as well though bruv Crap. Touche. Yes, some of us are here for a good read. I failed to express that and point that out. But that's also a big perspective on things. It's not about how the match is written, it's about how the match reads. Davids +1 dude, that blew my mind when I read your comment. * About match writing and roster profiles - Archie Lawson - 01-18-2014 Haha, no worries and thanks for your opinion on thing bud. I'm Steve Davids, by the way. |
