[the following is something I posted in the "Butcher Babies" thread, began by Minxs, in response to a discussion we had about Black Veil Brides. Enya is to me what BVB is to her... our faves. So, this post happened -- .]
Micah, as I mentioned, I only just now finally got into BVB a couple of days ago. But I love how they remind me of a sort of modern mesh between Manson and hair metal. It's wonderful. ^.^
And Black Veil Brides seems to be to you what Enya is to me... I simply ADORE, adore, adore, ADOOOOORE her... ever since I was like, eight. I have all of her albums, from 1985's 'Watermark', to 2009's '...And Winter Came'. SHE is the main artist that can truly calm me down... and with my bi-polar and how I often am... I truly need it much of the time. She's like my musical medicine, as I've put it in the past. She's an Irish songstress with the voice of an angel... and she lives in a castle. An actual castle. Her family formed this group called 'Clanaad' way back when, and her career originated as a part of that group... but she broke away, and went from her birth name of Eithne, to the closest English-variant, Enya. But 'Enya' technically consists of Eithne, and the husband and wife pair of Roma and Nicky Ryan, whom produce and write for her. And they've all three agreed, that without Roma and Nicky, there would be no 'Enya'. Collectively, they're known as 'The Trio'.
The sound of her music... much of it is oh so ethereal. And it's created from layering her voice so it sounds as if she's singing in chorus... with herself. When I feel angry... or depressed... or tense, nervous, stressed... I listen to her. And all of that just melts away... She's sung in a wide variety of languages. Each song is written in a language, and it gives it a life of its own-- English, Spanish, Gaelic, even a language Roma Ryan wrote herself for enya to use. Here is one she sang in Japanese... and it's one of my faves --
I've ripped all of her songs from the ten or so albums to my computer... so that, sometimes, when I feel like everything is lost... all I have to do is press play... take in a deep breath... and fade into her sound. And on rainy days... there's nothing better than her music. I'm into literally all music... rock, pop, rap, country, electronica, new wave, new age [which she HATES being labeled as. neither does she refer to herself as 'celtic'. when asked what style of music hers is... she simply replies 'enya'. and that is one of the main reasons I love her... it describes me to a tee in oh so many ways] ... I love everything, from every decade, and every artist...
... but above all others... enya has always been my absolute favorite.
And she always will be.
... one last thing.
Ther'es been a lot of talk concerning covers.
This... is perhaps my favorite. It contains the use of only one instrument.
The voice.
And in WWG, the last fed I was in, two years ago, before I went on hiatus...
... when I first joined, I ran a series of videos... this was the first video I posted. And it became my theme song.
The character I used was a part of the over all character that is raYne/Reeve... he was a hybrid. Of all the personalites held within that one being...
... his name was Legion.
This was his anthem --
"...i've been waiting for this moment all my life..."
