Jesse the Body Ventura was not a Navy SEAL, and was supposedly badmouthing them, saying they should lose a few people. Chris Kyle punched him for it. Kyle was a Navy SEAL, and holds the title of Most Lethal Sniper in US History. Kyle published the story about it in his book, and Ventura sued. Since Kyle died before the settlement, the courts awarded it to come from Kyle's estate. His widow. Jesse Ventura allowed a widow to cover of a true American Hero, because he's a bitch.

Jesse, being a former Navy UDT should have shown more respect for the fallen SEAL's family, and dropped the suit. But no, Body can't do that. Whether or not he was battered by Kyle is irrelevant, what is relevant is that Kyle's widow should not be made to suffer because Jesse couldn't let it go. I'm sorry, I know too many Military Spouses, and have too much respect for Kyle to believe this is acceptable. I find this be a huge insult to War Widows, Widows of Servicemen, and the memory of one of the most respected members of the US Military since ever.

Ventura is on the record saying he offered several times to drop the suit in exchange for a retraction, but Kyle refused. You can't expect a public figure to allow his name to be tarnished.

Plus, the courts found Ventura's suit to be legitimate. There were no witnesses to the incident and there were conflicting testimonies (for instance, it was claimed he was at the bar around 5:30 pm when he has a receipt showing his arrival much later).

Does it suck that the widow has to pay? Yeah, of course, but I'm sure she has the money from book sales - a lot of royalties which may have come from a fabricated story. It's understandable.

It's not suing Kyle I take issue with, it's that his Widow has to pay for it. As a former UDT, and Governor, Jesse should have had the respect for Kyle's widow to let it die with Kyle.

The suit was JUST finalized. He probably won't even take the money. Or if he does, who knows, he might just use it as a fund for Kyle's family.

I don't love Ventura, his politics are nothing like mine and he's kind of a conspiracy nut, but you can totally see where he's coming from here. It's not his fault that Kyle made up a story about him to sell a book, it's not his fault he wouldn't retract it, and it's not his fault that Kyle died. The main thing he wanted was to clear his name of the story.

No, but it is his fault that he didn't drop the suit last year after Chris died. It is his fault he didn't just refile an injunction to get the story edited out of future copies of the book after Chris died. All of this would have kept the widow from suffering more.

Maybe, but without publicly rescinding the general public would only know Kyle's original version. According to sources, Ventura actually did consider dropping the suit but was encouraged to continue by other SEALs.

And yeah, maybe he wasn't technically a SEAL, but the B/UDS training basically either made you a SEAL or a UDT, and they all still consider themselves the same unit.

Dos it suck that she has to go through it? Yeah. It isn't her fault. BUT, she IS reaping the benefits of the story. Is that fair?

B/UDS school is only the precursor to SEAL training or UDTs, not quite the same. Like RIP does not put you as a Green Beret. But, that's not as much of an issue as Jesse going after a widow. Going to get it blocked by the publisher would easily keep her from continuing to reap benefits from it. Her apology, and rescinding it won't change it, nor will it being finalised after Chris' death. In my opinion there is no positive, nor a logical reason for Jesse pursuing Taya in court.

I still think continuing the suit makes sense. It's important with our media and our society to have public affirmation. Ventura is a brand, as any celebrity is. And, besides, he's not putting some broke widow in the poorhouse - the money is there.

You make a valid enough point that stopping future publication could stop future royalties, but what about the ones they're already made? What about his reputation amongst the military (the reason he was even in town for the incident was he was speaking to a graduating class of B/UDS - it's part of his livelihood which he has said he's lost as a result.)

Considering the facts of this case if Ventura wasn't a public figure/ex governor I am sure the ccase would have been thrown out. It is a shame that so many people put their lives on the line every day out on the battlefield and yet they get ass raped more than anyone else.
