I was just thinking that I can see a lot of similarities between wrestlers in the XWF and actual pro wrestlers.

I took aspects from Hannibal Lecter(Just his attitude towards people not his cannibalism haha), Kurt Angle, Jun Akiyama, KENTA, Mankind, myself, and last but not least and probably the most controversial, Chris Benoit.(Not his personality or his unfortunate insanity towards the end of his life, mainly just his moves)

So that's Agony. Who inspired your XWF wrestler?

It can be anyone, wrestlers, horror movie villains, real life people, you name it.

Cool thread!

Well, KnightMask's focus on leg-submissions comes from my own preoccupation with leg-submissions and with attempting to use dynamic, standing entries and rolls and such to find them when I am competing or practicing submission grappling. And of course, my own preoccupation comes from being awed by and fascinated with the likes of Masakatsu Funaki, Masakazu Imanari, Kazushi Sakuraba, Volk Han, etc.

Basically, comic-books and Japanese shoot-style professional wrestling are among my biggest influences, I guess. And I love masks. I always wanted to compete in a submission-grappling tournament wearing a mask.

Some of the posts I've written have been modeled after Spiderman story lines.

I have to say, there aren't many aspects of Neil Capra that come specifically from pro wrestling...

The recent pieces I've written (RP's 2 and 3 for this Saturday specifically) were inspired by the video game Manhunt. The schizophrenia he suffers from is based off the Alpha AI from Red vs. Blue. His in ring style is based off of wrestling however, deathmatch wrestling to be exact...

So yeah...

Obviously certain aspects of Duke are borrowed from the Undertaker. Like his entrance style, obviously the picbase, his finisher... His affinity for fire, some have credited as a likeness to Kane which isnt true... When I first started writing Duke he was a satanist... thats why he liked fire... thats also why Asmodeus is depicted by Anton LaVey, the first satanic pope, if you will. Though, since venturing over to the new boards, the satanism has been overshadowed and cast away by Asmo and Duke explaining that they were only considered Satanists by the catholic church...

As far as the story goes, certain plot points, like whether or not he's an Illuminati and whether the Brotherhood is as well, the fact that the Brotherhood holds a secret over the catholic church... those ideas are borrowed from books... the story itself tho, is all my own creation...

The name. I've had this character in my mind for a looong time. He never had a name. When i decided to join an efed I searched long and hard for a meaningful name. A name that was more then just a name. I chose Sebastian Duke. Sebastian, I forget now where it originated, but it means Venerable... or respected... And Duke is the English translation of the Latin word Dux.... which means leader....

So.... in all reality.... Sebastian Duke translates to Respected Leader.... which holds true to Duke's story as the Leader of the Brotherhood.

EDIT: Actually there are certain aspects from my real life I've included from time to time.... what they are though, I'll never tell...

I basically combined many of the ultra violent legends at the time of my coming into the world of pro wrestling. All those in CZW, IWA MS, BJPW etc. I added elements of Steve Corino, CM Punk and Shane Douglas into the mix. Then as I watched more and more actual wrestling I adapted the character to more of the ROH, PWG and Chikara style guys. Of course his pic base is that of amateur body builder Rob Bailey. I have used CM Punk, Shane Douglas & The Messiah from XPW and CZW fame. I guess I formed his attitude from the straight edge lifestyle of CM Punk. And both of our "I don't care" views on life. Our atheism and our idea that you can be nerdy, goofy and a total dork but still be a physical bad ass and kick ass. The type that can wrestle but isn't afraid to break out the barbed-wire.

I think these guys know what they're getting into when they sign that dotted line though. It isn't a secret that if you sign with WWE that they're going to want you to suit up to whatever gimmick/persona that they need you for. I think Generico will do fine in WWE. I see no reason why he wouldn't. Bryan, Punk, Bourne, Ambrose, Black, and Cesaro have all done pretty well.

Yeah, WWE and their gimmicks. Shoichi Funaki is one of pro-wrestling's all-time great submission-wrestlers, especially with his crazy flying knee-bars, but I guess they never thought it would be interesting to use him for that angle. I always wondered if people backstage were familiar with what he was capable of. I just feel like, if you're going to have guys with submission-based gimmicks, why not use arguably the best guy around at that for the gimmick?

Of course, he looks silly and is not ripped. Which is I think, part of why, even in shoot-style orgs in Japan, he was usually not a main-event guy.

I agree to some extent but when a guy is known for and gets signed because of his gimmick and in ring work and then you strip them of everything and rebuild them then it's kind of pointless. My gripe with what the did to El Generico is this. He is a WORLDWIDE star. He built the Generico gimmick from the ground up and WWE could very well be dropping the ball with making him lose it. Granted I doubt he'd be able to use the BrainBustaaaaa but still kind of lame. Plus think of all the replica masks they could sell. On the other hand his gimmick may very well have kept him at midcard status when he could easily be a main eventer.

Yeah, pretty much any move he's done where his opponents head comes in contact with the mat is getting scratched off of his move list. But you have to look at it from WWE's perspective.

A) They're the ones who have to answer for the industry if a pro wrestler goes down with serious injuries (Austin, Edge) or if a wrestler develops serious issues later on (Benoit, Guerrero, Hall, Roberts) that can be linked to their business. I'm pretty sure they're doing everything they can to avoid head injuries.

B) These guys are constantly on the road, and I imagine not having to take a brain buster off the top rope every week in order to make money is a relief.

The whole "gimmick" aspect of it really isn't that big of a deal. He's going from being known world wide(to a much smaller audience) as El Generico to being known world wide(to a larger audience) as whatever WWE throws on him. He'll be a bigger star than he's ever been.

WWE has been really cool lately with their signings. I don't think it's pointless at all to sign someone who they know is capable of working and then rebuilding them. They're finally recognizing the guys who have talent, but also protecting themselves at the same time.

Vince's methods aren't all that bad. The writing of the shows suck at times, but there is a good reason behind every other decision WWE makes that the internet fans shit on.

Hunter Payne is Eddie Guerrero mixed with some Rock and obviously I throw some of my beliefs in him. Since he is a face I try hard to make him that sympathetic guy you want to see overcome all his obstacles and succeed. Which is like Eddie Guerrero in a sense, and myself to an extent.

Joy however is the opposite, I actually have more fun writing for her a good portion of the time just because her influences are a little bit of Heel Melina, combined with Jen, the first girl I sorta kinda got infatuated with briefly. Yeah, she was a complete bitch. lol. And a lot of it is "what can I make her say to sound like Jen." And it usually works out nicely. lol

At first John Austin was basically the normal cocky heel wrestler, I am better than everyone else bs.

But when I took him in a new direction, after my wannabe version of the Congregation Blush ....He is inspired roughly off of who I am.

The recent stuff with him hearing voices and the "demons" are a take off of the bullshit I went through right after I lost my mom to cancer.

My entrance theme is from the fact I am huge Cheech and Chong fan and "Lost Due to Incompetence" came from Up in Smoke

So I look at it like John Austin is pretty much inspired off of me but with the dial turned up to eleven.

To find John, turn those lights out because he will then appear...
