Great question! I think to an extent the commentators can largely be implemented up to how the person is writing the match (even if that can cause some various inconsistencies in their characters between matches, but I think that's a discussion for another time). I think though even with a highlight reel approach it's still worth it to have them present and reacting to the action as it's unfolding. Some people might just see them as flavor text and cut down on them, but I like being able to have them fill on certain details of moves or various stories going on to help enhance a match if I'm able to keep up on said story myself. 

I think at the end of the day, it's just a matter of doing what you feel comfortable with and trying to do the best you can with it.
