RP of the month ends up featured on the site and gaining a lot of attention, possibly even influencing others to try and emulate it, and this RP just isn't meant for that. I think it's far too long for the average, casual reader to fully digest (despite being the norm back in the day) and I'd hate for the people who do read it in full to think they should start going for 8.5K+ words per RP on normal shows. Yikes. There's also the issue that because it was a special show and with guys who don't mind breaking that 4th wall a bit, there is some aggressive 4th wall breakage I did myself which again I would hate to be responsible for urging more people to emulate if they see it featured as the top RP for a month... especially newer members. If I had been RPing for a standard show going by today's norm rather than going old school, my RP would have been written a lot more "front page friendly" if you know what I mean. Sorry to be such a party pooper. lol Again though, I absolutely do appreciate the kind words as well as the positive feedback I've received in private. I just don't think it's fitting for a front page piece.
Now as for my vote, I'd go with Ranma Saotome. The reasons are that his RP was such a breath of fresh air compared to most of what is written today, yet such a familiar feeling from years ago. The way he paints his scenes and draws you in to his story is very hard to match, his raw writing ability is top notch, the ENVIRONMENT he gives you is excellent and by that I mean taking the time to make a 2 part external RP layout complete with a different soundtrack for each part to match the mood as you go. Yes, these things all matter but even without the "extras" he gives us, the writing itself is superb. THIS is what people should be seeing as an example of what to strive for, I think. This is what people should be going back to... More effort creating a masterpiece on every level, giving us a feeling like we stepped into your house, refining and crafting your words, and taking the time to make sure it's a unique piece of art you're supplying as a whole. If any RP this month deserves to end up featured for all to see and people to possibly take as an example of what to become, there is no question this is the one.
That one would have been my second choice. Honestly, all the bells and whistles don't even factor into my decision. I'm pretty strict about having nothing but the actual writing itself influence my opinion when it comes to things like this, which is honestly the way it should be for me. The writing itself was very, very good. The only thing that held it back for me was at times it almost came across as a tad overwritten and a bit grandiose. But I do see what you mean with regard to how polished it is. It's certainly a match winning RP and one that went through a serious editing process.
