By that I mean people so dumb that they can't even hold the fucking power button in for 30 seconds. I just got two tickets. One was about someone being logged into the computer and she couldn't log in cause it's already logged into. Poor window lickers doesn't know what to do. You reboot it. It isn't fucking rocket science.
The other went as follows: so and so is having problems logging into such and such application. Can you look into it? Well..no I fucking can't because you gave me NO FUCKING DETAILS YOU DUMB BITCH. Is there a fucking error? What's the error say? Does it just not fucking open?! Details. I need some fucking details.
Fucking hell..this place is gonna drive me to heroin.
Church.
Just out of curiousity, do you work at a hospital? A close friend of mine used to work the help desk for WVU Hospital here in WV and he always talked about the same type of situations.
I myself, I am in the food service. At least, primarily. Like you I am an Information Systems major. Been building and repairing computers since I was about 13 (I'm 31 now.). As I got older, I expanded my knowledge base into the software side of things, etc.
Sadly, I screwed around, slacked off, and dropped out of college before I could actually get my degree. So regardless of how much I know, without that piece of paper it's assumed that I know nothing.
This is where food service comes in. I am the Assistant Manager at Little Caesars here in my hometown in WV. (Honestly, my position on paper is AM. But, truth be told myself and the store manager, who happens to be my brother-in-law, which also happens to be Graves, typically work together in a "Co-Manager" type of way.)
A typical work week for us is 6 on one off, rinse and repeat. In those 6 days, I'd say at least half are riddled with false accusations of inferior products, a complaint about the look or demeanor of one of our staff members, or about how much longer they had to wait in our lobby than THEY anticipated they would have to wait before they left their house that day.
So I can totally identify with a lack of detail, and mental capacity that people apparently seem to build their foundations on now a days. Though to be fair, 2/3 of my staff and management staff may have downs.
The jury is still out on that one.
"My schedule says I should be in this position today. Where do you want me? Here, here or here?" - Uhm, well, I want you to piss off, first of all. Secondly you answered you're own question, and last but not least, more often than not the third ignorant question is met with a long winded sigh and a mental mark against your already full filing cabinet of failure.
Ah, life. Good times.
Nah. I work at a managed services firm in Pittsburgh. We do IT for companies all over the country. The only hospital we do is in Ellwood City.
But you don't need a degree at all.
I wasted 50k for that peice of paper and it doesn't mean anything. Just get your certs. That's what they look for anyway. I have a+, vca, mcsa and a few Dell certs that make me a Dell tech. They're kind of expensive but not nearly as expensive as college. Most companies know you don't learn a damn thing in college anyway. The certs are what ya need.
But yeah..people are dumb and lazy. One company..the one from my example has about 1400 users. There are four of us on a team that handles them. At least 3/4 of them are going to lock themselves out on any given day. "But I'm putting in the correct password but it's says it's wrong" and I kindly tell them in my thick Mississippi accent " no boo boo.it don't tell you it's wrong when it's right".
Hell I rp at work so I can get lost in Erik's story rather than lose my shit
I thought people were generally smarter in Pittsburgh?
