What is your XWF "thing"?

What I mean by that is, well, instead of explaining it just read what my 'thing' is.

When I started out, I know I sucked. I guess I felt my prime was August-October of last year. After that, my brain has just been stuck in a rut creatively. My thing is, I think a lot of my stuff sucks, especially as of late. It's why I fish for compliments, likes, 'praises' as Theo put it, etc. When I see no likes, or no one sharing feedback when I ask, I feel everyone who reads mine agree. I guess that discourages me from writing better.

It was pretty awesome to hear people calling 'Bray Wyatt' Eli James. Whether or not its true, that meant a lot and that my writing was entertaining.

Corny? Probably. Dat's my thing, what's yours?

I think some of my characters get drawn into the same dialogue.

For example, Steve is supposed to be poetic, dark, intelligent.

Secondary characters aren't all meant to speak in the same way but sometimes my immediate reaction to a piece of text comes out as something Steve would say rather than a separate character. I guess I have a hard time getting my head from one character to another at times.

Oh and being flowery and too descriptive sometimes, Duke will tell you that... he hates it. Though, I have tried to work on that as of late.

With Theo I go for comedy. That's pretty much it. Witty and ridiculous. I try and write in a way where you can picture it playing out like it were an episode of your favorite tv show. Sometimes I think I succeed and sometimes I think I fail miserably. But I always enjoy it and I hope the readers do as well.

I’m not sure what my thing is…I mean Morbid Angel can do just about anything and it can play well…I know Humor is one and I decided to take that direction because I see a lot of people wanting to be “evil” and I thought…What if Morbid Angel was like the biggest, baddest MOTHERFUCKER around…but he was funny. Some may not think Morbid is funny but from what others tell me, he can be hilarious.
His closeted homosexuality, explosive anger for the dumbest shit…I know writing for him is fun because there really is no limit…except he wouldn’t fuck his sister…or Peter (looks at Frodo) that shits just fucked up

Well, I write for a living, and sometime's it's really difficult to sit there for hours on end and write. I love it to pieces, but sometimes I just get frustrated that my writing isn't coming out well or I'm getting antsy or something and then rush it out. Usually I'll come back to it later but when I RP or write something like, I'unno, fanfiction, I just kinda rush it out and post it. And that's been why I've lost a few of my matches in other efeds, I rush it out and don't think it through, then someone comes back at me and will point the idiosyncrasies and the flaws in not only the character but the writing that I feel shouldn't or don't exist.

I'm a huge critic of myself too, I get angry when my writing is not up to notch. I'll sometimes write a short story or a post in an RP, come back to it a long time later, get angry, and begin to take notes on what to do better. To the point where sometimes I don't progress because I'm not writing, I'm just thinking about how to improve.

My third thing stems from my first efed, The NLWF, where I actually became at least decent at RPing, where I actually had a good run. I had four characters part of a stable that started taking over the company called Uprising, two of them won the tag titles, one of them had a single's title, one of them was in a world championship match (sadly it was never seen through, I believe he was going to win but the main admin closed the fed down) and other things. During that time, I was there for about six months and people were really angry that I was doing well, just because the same guys ran the company for years, and they would start pointing out things they knew about me in character as well as my own characters that I'd grown attached to, so I'd become defensive and lash out when that happens. I've since gotten over it, but it happened enough that it became a problem for a little while.

My fourth and final (probably not but the last thing I can think of) I procrastinate a bit and that's not great when you have a deadline like on here or other efeds. I will say okay, I'm going to write something, and give myself the excuse that I'm thinking of things so I don't have to write and then comes the final few days before the deadline, where the rushing part comes in and later, the critiquing comes in. So most of my things probably stem from this.

But yeah.

I guess the best way I can put it, my "thing" for Austin is just stuff I have had on my brain. I see something on tv that was cool and try and mish mash it up to fit my vision and usually it works out good for Austin. Like I have stated in the past, Austin is pretty much myself with the dial turned way up to 100. A-lot of the things Austin has went through like his dealings with the mob and so forth have never happened but the being homeless and losing his mother to breast cancer has happened to me in real life.

So I go with what I got and it usually works out good for me in the writing

My thing used to be comedy, but recently it's turned a bit darker as I try to tell the story of a kid falling apart on the inside. Overall, I've taken my own experiences and amplified them a good 20 notches.

You realize I said precisely that? Pretty sure I covered both of those and then some, but here's an edited version for his excellency.

First off, Eli? I've said it before I'll say it a million times. That one piece you wrote, concerning the penny....That moved me then, it still resonates, and I appreciate you putting the effort you did into that entire piece, and especially the metaphor. It hit close to home, and it stuck. I thank you for that. Now....This is EXACTLY how I am, as you describe yourself. Whenever I see that nobody's liked what I posted, I feel like I'm not doing well, and sometimes I feel like giving up. HOWEVER... I learned from many people, Other Shane, Ally-cat, friends from other feds like a gal named Mandy who goes by 'Violet'....ya gotta do it for you. Doesn't matter what others think, ya gotta be happy with your work. I thought to myself the other day....there's visible likes. Then there's the ones ya can't see with your eyes. Not everyone who reads a piece presses that button, but it doesn't mean the like's not there. And the only 'like' that matters, in the end, is the one that can't be. Yours. Nuff said.

Though, I have tried to work on that as of late.

I know what'cha mean, Arch, I have always been complimented on how I can embrace different characters. Different patterns of speech, such as with Jack, or raYne's old lover, Tony Spaghetti, "wit' the Italiano accent ovah he'". There's also this gal I use in another company, Ladies All-Star Wrestling. She's raYne's cousin, and her name is Sarah. 'The Snow Storm'. She has a bit of a redneck, southern drawl like Jack....As I've said before, thinking of bringing her here, ANYWAY-- I do get you, though. I've honestly always had difficulty capturing Tony's dialect, as you saw previously from what was admittedly a terriblly written "Italiano accent" ><

And I do often have trouble giving each character their own voice. You just have to step away from center base, focus on each character's strengths, their weaknesses, and put yourselves into their shoes. Realize what makes them tick. That's why I've been able to embrace "The Show", taking on different characteristics with each picbase change. Takes some getting used to, a lotta effort, but the pay-off is exceptional. It certainly boosts the results in your output, and the pieces you produce will only stand-out further. But I already hold a great deal of respect for your work, no doubt about that. You'll get it, just be patient, focus on the craft, and keep on with this angle you have going. Tremendous, tremendous work indeed.

(06-26-2014, 10:19 PM)Azrael Erebus Said: I'm a perfectionist...well, at least for the most part. When I write something it has to be just exactly right or I get frustrated and delete everything. I sort of see writing as painting or composing music but with written words and I like to have things in a certain rhythm or pattern to convey my story. To produce something that flows and carries along with the ease and fluency of a brush stroke on a piece of canvas. If it's not just so, then I can't post it. And this has nothing to do with how people will receive it or if they'll even like it. I mean it's nice to have your work liked and I care about that but I don't really dwell on that factor or let it dominate any space within my mind, other than finding it rewarding; after the fact of posting a rp, to know people enjoy reading my work. I appreciate that people find entertainment in what I put out there but in the end it's more my own need for presenting a piece in a light that I deem worthy of posting. If I don't like it and can't word the rp in a manner that carries the story in a fashion that suits me, then that rp won't ever see the light of day so to speak.

First, I love how even in your OOC comments the words you put together are beautiful. It's honestly why I was a bit taken aback by your initial response to my reply to your 'open challenge'...you don't strike me as a guy who has to rely on curse words. The less you use, the greater an impact your wriitng has, as when you do use one? It stands out. I know I've come off the wrong way in the past, you can take my words however you like, I'm only offering you the advice I've been given with time. Again, I know precisely how you feel regarding perfectionism, perhaps moreso.

I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, so what Tony-Tone said late last year honestly upset me a bit, as it is true and it's something I have to deal with. But yes, I am certainly a perfectionist in every sense of the term, and I believe that has a lot to do with why I write so much, why I do everything I do as far as the creative proccess is concerned. I always make sure the words I choose capture the thoughts and emotions in my mind. Even when I speak OOC, like this. If I see one typo, I LITERALLY cringe and feel like punching myself in the face, which I'm sure many here would see as a bonus. I keep going back, over and over again, and that's why reading that piece I posted as Jack makes me feel abysmal. It even had the keynotes I'd wished to address right there, plain as day, for any reader to see. Needless to say, I hit rock bottom, but I'm digging my way back up.

Slowly but surely I am, and when you're a perfectionist, seeing yourself in the light I have...You know there's a change that needs to be made. And speaking of music, I also focus heavily on the songs I include. And I know you do as well, as one of the pieces you wrote last year, which I included the link to at the top of this admitted MOUNTAIN of text, sorry for that >_< Anyway, the song you used, 'Damaged'...It stuck with me, I found another piece 'Horizon' by the same artist, and I created something from it. The section at the very end of that terrible L.O.F. J.H. RP I cobbled together...I'm going to be creating a much better piece from that, seperating it into something strictly for Reeve. To foreshadow his return/debut. And I believe you captured what I told Eli above to a tee. It should not be about the others. It should be about you. Again...Nuff said.

OOC/IC:

Now, I'm gonna take a different approach from the others. Gonna answer the actual question, along with the invisible question some here seem to have seen, like it was Reeve's mom or somethin', MY thing is.........A buncha ellipsis. Those dots, if ya didn't know... Uhm. And using too many damned lyrics. You know cuz it's like, everything has been said before. There's nothing left to say anymore... When it's all the same? You can ask for it by name. Annnnnnd... colors. And pics. And REALLY long spaces between the things I say, and writing WAY TOO FUCKING MUCH, and autoplay vids, and crazy fonts, and being boring so I'mma shut up about all that right #NOW also hashtags.

My old character's 'thing', was being all sparkly and bubbly and happy like a lil ol loud, annoying, obsessive butterfly. Now.......Well, let The Show tell you via a quote and a line--
