Here are some examples of how to write some codes I added to our boards. These are all the codes I added myself. If you want to review the basic list of codes that most boards already have, you can review that general list here: http://xwf99.com/misc.php?action=help&hid=7

Custom tags you can use...

To give a "popup meaning" to a word, or full meaning to an abbreviation, you can use something like this. Hover your mouse over the words in the example underneath the coding and you will see it in action.

To automatically put a formatted table around your writing, you can use the same tag I use when I create events.

To create a line across the screen that you can choose the length and color of, do something like this...

2 examples...(one with px size and with with percentage)

For a much easier code to make a line across the screen, just define its length like below.

To create a progress bar that's filled up a certain percentage, you just write the exact number that represents the percentage. Do not write a % sign.

The "vs" code we use when we create a card.

Easy way to add a Youtube video. Just take the ending code of the video link, which is the part that comes AFTER the = sign.

For example, if this is your link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJAyhKc4-Y0
you're going to want to only take the part I put in red^
and then do this:

I also added a quick version of the Youtube code that autoplays your video! Here's the tag for it:

If you have any requests for codes, please don't hesitate to ask me. It's up to you to come up with something that would make your life easier as you post on these boards. Basically anything you might use, coding wise, I can shorten into an easy board tag like the ones above. If you can think of some good features I should add that everyone might enjoy too, please let me know.

I'd actually prefer you don't use dark blue colors that are hard to read over black. I even specifically used a lighter "blue" for regular blue in the ones I just added. Not a fan of having to highlight text to read it. lol

I could add the dark red though. You want it as [darkred]?

There's no easy answer to it that I can think of. Some of the more crafty guys who are great with coding have come up with various layouts in the past. There are some ways with different types of coding to "force" a picture to be behind your text, etc... but I don't know how I'd implement that into a custom easy code for the board.

If anyone knows an easy code that would be good for this and it would always remain the same (not require editing at all) then please let me know and I'll try adding it as a custom easy code to see if it works.

The end result would look something like:

...but I just need a good line of coding that the above "bg" and "/bg" would translate to.

Take note of how I only inserted the last part of the Youtube URL. You only take the part AFTER the = sign. So for the URL ...I would only take the vMzFsKRgBg4 and put that between the youtube code tags.

Same feature works with the word autoplay instead of the word youtube if you want the video to autoplay.

Can you add a youtube option for multiple songs? I used to put alternating tracks in some of my rp's but it's a pain in the ass doing it all by hand. Add a code with a place for two videos and have them loop. I will pm you an example of what I mean.

I think I have it set up now how you mean. This new code will allow you to paste in TWO songs and they'll play back to back, automatically, in an endless loop.

Simply place the end of the FIRST youtube URL where you see the xx
Then place the end of the second youtube URL where you see the zz
Make sure the ] separates the two entries just as I have above
The end result should look somewhat like the code below, once you have the ends of the YT links in their places

I'd post an example of the code in action here BUT since they autoplay, I don't want to have a video loading and playing each time somebody opens this thread. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

is there any way to have the meaning play a sound linked from another website? Is there a way to post a link and keep it different text, like in HTML?

Specifically, I'd like to have a way to have a sound effect go off.

In example, using the sentence:

I like the sound of glass breaking.

And I have a .wav file that is of glass breaking found and stored somewhere online. I want it to play that .wav file when I hover over the word 'breaking', or maybe have it clickable so someone could hear the sound effect.

As far as posting links the way HTML allows, you can just use HTML. Our boards accept most HTML and yes you can customize the appearance of a link's text as far as size, color, bold, etc... If there's something more specific that you're trying and won't work, let me know. I don't think it would really be possible for us to create a shortened board code for that particular effect, though.

Regarding the sound file, that sort of thing is very tricky on today's internet even though back in the days of dial up and DSL, it would have been as simple as creating a play button with the old "embed src" command. Now, with so many different computers all using different default sound playing devices, I am not aware of a one size fits all answer for playing a wav file like you're describing. What might work on your own computer and browser might not work on half of the people here, thus defeating the purpose.

Does anyone here have more insight or experience on playing sound files universally, which are NOT youtube videos? If there is a solid answer, I'll build it into our board code for simplicity of execution.
