Episode 2 - Sacrifice

Savage | August 31st, 2019

Vita kicked her way through the locker room door. Tears of frustration ran down her cheeks, but she was thankful that nobody seemed to notice due to all of the sweat that was also running down her face. She slammed the door behind her and collapsed onto the wooden bench in front of her locker.

"LUCKY!"

It wasn't meant to go down like this. She was going to turn shit around, but what had she accomplished since abandoning her honorable ways last Anarchy? She nearly lost to John Black, and now Kieran Overton managed to steal the victory right from under her nose! Of course he didn't do it alone. Had McBride not gotten involved VV's plan would have worked. For those who didn't see, she had faked being attacked prior to the match. She figured, left those idiots beat the hell out of each other, then she could come in to clean up. Of course even she couldn't have predicted how quickly Kieran Overton would dismantle Kühn and McBride. It didn't matter though, her plan worked and she caught Overton by surprise and had the match won.

"Fuckin' McBride!"

That is until Michael McBride found a second wind and broke the count. Now occupied with him, that left Kieran to pick up the scraps and steal the victory by pinning Finn Kühn. She didn't really hold it against him, hell, she would have done the same if the shoe were on the other foot. That doesn't mean she had to like it though. VV reached into her gym bag and pulled out her cell phone. The first thing she noticed was the 7 missed text messages, all of them from Corey. She had been ignoring him since her return, going out of her way to avoid crossing paths backstage and refusing to answer his calls or text messages. VV let out a sigh as she stared into the screen. Should she? Truth be known, she DID have feelings for him. Despite her breaking things off tonight, she couldn’t deny that she cared for him, but he was a distraction. One that she attributed to her less than stellar run as of late. One that had allowed Sarah Lacklan to come into the XWF and steal all of her thunder, and see, that’s the problem here. The further Vita sank down the card, the higher Sarah rose up it. The two stars were around the same age and size. There was so much about them that seemed like a mirror image. Maybe it was the similarities between them that caused VV to take notice. Maybe it was those same similarities that caused VV to become jealous. Sarah had everything that VV had hoped to gain in the XWF. She was a champion of course, but beyond that, she had managed to captivate the audience. When Sarah spoke, the crowd would hang on her every word. Not only that, but they would chant and cheer and play into her hands like putty. When VV spoke, she felt like she was lucky if anyone actually listened. Sure, the crowd cheered her, but she could tell it was different. She could tell that it was just a trained reaction because VV was presented as the “good guy”. She longed for what Sarah had, she longed to be a champion again, she longed for the crowd to be forced to pay attention to her, she longed to be THE star, and to her, that was far more important than any boy…

Delete all messages? Yes…

VV let out a sigh before tossing her phone back into her bag, realizing that there’s no turning back now, she’s chosen her path, and now it’s time to walk it…

New York, NY | September 2nd, 2019 |

Jessica is a childhood friend of VV’s who is staying in New York to attend college. She took VV in once she left home to begin her wrestling career. Having no where else to go outside of hotels, and not really knowing anyone in the XWF so well at the time, it just made since for VV to stay here, at least in Jessica’s mind. Over the past year, VV had made numerous attempts to convince Jessica to put college on hold and hit the road with her. Mostly because she longed for a friendly face on the road. A travel companion if you will. Vita had offered Jessica a paying role as her manager at one point, but that wasn’t enough to convince her to put her education on hold. Jessica doesn’t really care much for the world of wrestling, nor is she looking to make any sort of career with the XWF. She has her heart set on entering the medical field, and that is what has ultimately held her back from accepting in the past.

We open inside of the shared apartment of Jessica and Vita Valenteen. VV has invited the XWF to show up and film, only telling them that she has a big announcement, but offering no insight as to what that announcement may be. They’ve been here for hours now. Their set up and ready to film, but VV has continued to hold up the production of this video, only stating that she’s waiting for someone before they begin. At this point, everyone is sitting around looking bored out of their minds, including VV. Suddenly the sound of a key turning the deadbolt on the front door catches VV’s ear. She hops to her feet and motions for the production team to get into positions. The cameraman and the boom mic dude hurry over to their equipment and quickly set up to roll. Just as the camera begins filming, Jessica walks in through the door with a big stack of books in her arms. VV throws on a big smile and shouts out.

”SUUURPRISE!!!”

Say yells as she runs up to Jessica with open arms and wraps her in a tight embrace causing her to drop her books as she stares around at the XWF employees with a look of confusion.

”Um, what’s going on?”

VV releases Jessica from her embrace, but just stands there smiling as she stares at her friend.

”Um, heeello, Earth to VV!”

”I did it…”

Still confused over what’s going on and what VV is talking about, Jessica tilts her head to one side and squints her eyes.

”You did what exactly?”

”Well, I took the liberty of speaking with Vinnie on your behalf, and he said that if you want it, he’s willing to offer you a contract as an on air talent.”

Jessica shrugs her shoulders with an annoyed umph!

”WHY would I want that? I’ve told you before that I’m not willing to drop out just to follow you on the road!”

To be fair, she should have seen this reaction coming from a mile away, but VV has been so self absorbed as of late that she didn’t even consider the possibility of Jessica NOT wanting this.

”Don’t you even want to know what the offer is?”

Jessica, annoyed to no end with the camera in her home and VV trying to spring a contract on her out of the blue, kneels down and picks up her books before shoving past VV towards her bedroom.

”No matter how much you may want it to Ash, the world doesn’t revolve around you and what you want!”

Where she slams the door behind her.

*SLAM*

Jessica’s reaction leaves VV feeling a little embarrassed as the camera continues to roll. She bites her bottom lip as she tries to think up a way to save face here. She wonders if she can talk Jessica into it, but quickly decides that it’s not likely at this point, not with the camera rolling, and not without tons of begging. Even then, who knows. She decides it’s not worth the risk, so instead she falls back on her other announcement. VV storms up to the door and knocks.

”I’m not talking to you until you get those cameras out of our apartment!”

But VV is quick to fire back.

”That’s the other thing I wanted to tell you. I’m moving out!”

Suddenly Jessica flung the door open and peered out, standing face to face with VV.

”What do you mean, you’re moving out?”

”I didn’t stutter did I?”

”So let me get this straight. You have your XWF cronies waiting around my apartment with cameras to spring a contract offer on me out of the blue, and then just because I say no, you decide that you’re leaving?”

”No, I’m leaving regardless. All of the great wrestlers like Centurion and Robbie Bourbon have their own training facilities. They don’t live in crappy apartments like this one. So I’ve bought a gym in California, and I’m moving out there. I was hoping that you would finally quit being a bitch and go on the road with me, but if you’re not willing to do that, then you’re just another distraction...”

Upon hearing that, Jessica burst through the door causing VV to back away frantically until she trips over the couch and falls back into the cushions.

”Distraction? That’s all I am to you Ashley? A DISTRACTION!?! I allowed you into my home because you had nowhere else to go! Nevermind the fact that I’m trying to finish my education, which is really hard to do when some brat is constantly bitching about her super awesome pro wrestler job! I put up with it though, and I did so because we’re supposed to be friends, but if I’m such a damn distraction to you and your stupid career, then by all means, go ahead and leave, but don’t you sit there and try to pass your short comings off on me! You can’t win because you’re not half as good as you think you are, and cutting your friends out of your life or buying a gym out in California isn’t going to change that!”

Jessica turned and stormed back to her room, knocking the camera out of the cameraman's hands along the way.

”What happened on Savage last week was a travesty! After I found not only the courage, but also the fortitude to compete after that BRUTAL attack backstage… To have Kieran Overton steal that victory out from underneath me like that was…”

VV takes a deep breath and huffs in frustration before putting on a fake smile.

”Whatever, it’s over, but I promise you this, one on one, Kieran Overton doesn’t stand a chance against a competitor whose skills are as refined as mine, and if you ever want to prove me wrong, come find me bitch! Seriously though, enough about him. This week I’ve been tasked with yet ANOTHER insignificant match buried somewhere deep in the undercard, and see, that’s the problem here isn’t it? It’s the fact that I’m the brightest frickin’ star in the XWF today, but for some reason nobody around here wants to show the proper respect to my talents in and out of that ring. Take for instance Corey… Poor poor Corey, he got his heart broken!!! Aww boohoo! I’m such a cold hearted bitch, right?”

“WRONG! I’m a PROFESSIONAL!”

“Lux was a distraction, so I cut him out of the picture. THAT’S what makes me the BEST! It’s my willingness to sacrifice anything and everything to ensure that I’m on the absolute TOP of my game! That’s why I have this briefcase, that’s why I’m challenging Sarah Lacklan for the Anarchy championship at Relentless, and THAT’S why I’m going to run STRAIGHT THROUGH Jayson Rayne!”

“That’s right, I’m calling my frickin’ shot! I’m not afraid of Jason Rayne’s size, I’m not afraid of his power, and I’m damn sure not afraid of his mind games! Yeah, I know about you, and I know that you like to get inside the minds of your opponents, BUT YOU WON’T GET IN MINE! Oh no no, because I’m not weak minded. Huh uh, I KNOW how good I am, and I KNOW that my speed and agility can outshine raw power any day of the week! I’ve faced dudes that were big before, chopped them down. I’ve faced men with all sorts of “dark powers” and I made them my bitch! I’ve stared mean and ugly in the face, and I’ve still came out on top. You wanna get XTREME? Then let’s get XTREME! The fact is, you can’t get in my head because YOU AREN’T ANYTHING I FEAR!”

“See, when you’ve been kicked around and abused like I have, you tend to eventually lose all fear and set yourself free to become the very best you, and that’s where I am. These fans that come to our shows, they don’t know TRUE TALENT when it’s staring them in the face. They’d rather cheer for a piece of crap like Sarah Lackan than acknowledge the fact that they ALREADY HAD A TOTALLY PERFECT VV RIGHT HERE!”

VV had gotten herself all worked up and began to shake. She looked off to the side of the camera, just staring off into space as she slowly took a few steps back, away from the camera. Finally she snapped back to reality, shaking her head no as she struggled to remove her microphone.

“You know what, this interview is over… I just, I… I can’t even right now... “

VV was steaming with jealousy as she tossed the microphone to the floor and stormed off set…
