*RIIIIING*

o O (OMG, what am I doing?)

*RIIIIING*

o O (Please don’t answer!)

*RIIIIING*

o O (Maybe if I just hang up now...)

"Hello?"

o O (OMG! OMG! OMG!)

HOOOOOOLD UP! Okay, so I’m sitting here in editing watching Philip totally do his thing with my latest promo video and it hits me! Maybe before we get into this totally life changing phone call, maybe we should clue everyone in first? Sure sure, for my strongest supporters, this is all going to be a retread into known territory, but what about the newest members of the V-Nation? Should we leave them in the dark so that they can’t totally appreciate the gravity of the situation, or do we sacrifice a little bit of our time so that everyone can enjoy what comes next a little more? Oh yeah, lets give’em some context…

It’s a FLASHBACK!!!”

VV’s Parents House
Toronto Canada

”MOM you don’t understand, this is what I’m meant for!”

Ashley, otherwise known to the wrestling world as VV says as she angrily stuffs clothes into a big red nylon suitcase.

"You’re only sixteen Ashley, you’re not in a position to make decisions like these!" Ashley stops what she’s doing and storms up to her mother in protest.

”But I have made the decision mom!”

"Okay smart girl, and who’s paying for you to take wrestling lessons huh?"

”They’re already paid for!” She says defiantly. This confuses her mother for a second and just leaves her wondering;

"And how did you manage that?"

”What did you think I was doing with my babysitting money?” Ashley fires off, leaving her mother in a state of disbelief.

"I… I… How much money were you making babysitting?" She exclaims.

”Enough to pay for wrestling school!”

"Well you’re STILL not going, and that’s FINAL!"

She says as she storms out of the room.

The first day of training

We open inside of an old movie theater that has since been gutted and repurposed as a wrestling gym. A thick burly man stands in front of a worn out wrestling ring. Time hasn’t been kind to him, as evidenced by the nemours scars laced across his forehead and the obvious limp that he does a very poor job of disguising.

”Listen up! You’re all here because you’ve decided that you want to become a professional wrestler. You’ve all seen shows on TV and think, “hey, I could do that!”. Well let me be the first to tell you that most people CAN’T! We run new classes through this school quarterly, and everytime we do, we have approximately 30 people comes through those doors just the same as all of you. Out of those 30 or so people, only 4 to 6 students complete this course and begin their careers on the independent scene. Out of 10 groups, we’re lucky to see just one of those people make it to the big time. What that means is that this business isn’t a good choice for a career. This isn’t something to do just because you want to make money, or because you seek fame, because the truth of the matter is this, there are far easier ways to obtain both. If any of you don’t love this business, and I mean truly love this business, then you should leave now.”

“Anyone who does so will receive a full refund, no questions asked, but if you choose to stay, just remember that you shouldn’t expect ANYTHING from this business other than sacrifice, and tons of it! This business will take, take, take from you until there’s nothing left for it to take, then it’ll spit you out and forget about you before you can even figure out where it all went wrong. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll make some money along the way, but most aren’t.”

“So, any takers?”

He looks out to the group of new students as his eyes focus on one, a young man, early 20’s, a little overweight, but looks like he has a strong base to build from. His face on the other hand tells a different story. It tells one of fear, fear that he can’t make it, fear that he’s wasting his money to chase a dream so far out of reach. It’s a fear that he had chosen to ignore. A fear that he pushed through when he convinced himself to pay for this class, but after listening to his new instructors words, it’s a fear he could no longer ignore. He slowly stands up and briefly makes eye contact with the instructor before looking away in shame. As the boy walks towards the front desk to claim his refund, a few more decide to join him in his decision. When it’s all said and done, only 17 student remain.

”Good, that just improved everyone else's chances. Now, I’m going to give you guys a 15 minute recess before we begin training. During this time, if you decide that this isn’t for you, I’ll honor my offer to refund your money. Anyone who’s still here afterwards better be ready to bust their asses!”

With that, all of the remaining students scatter. Some hang out near the ring chatting, others whip out their phones and do whatever it is people tend to do on those things, and the rest, they head outside. The later is where VV ends up. Fresh air, it’s something she feels starved for. The instructors words hit a little too close to home for her considering both the sacrifice that she already made to come here with dropping out of school, and the fight with her parents when they discovered her plans.

As she walks outside to the parking lot, she immediately notices a car parked towards the front of the parking lot. Why you ask? Because it’s her father's car, so it’s no surprise when mom and dad step out, but the sight of them does seem to cause VV’s stomach to tie in knots.

”What are you guys doing here?”

”Hopefully talking some sense into you!’

Her father barks in an almost commanding tone. VV catches onto the hostility in her father's voice and quickly decides that she’s not going to deal with this right now.

”Dad, I know what I’m doing!”

"Do you though?"

”As if my daughter wanting to waste her life chasing a ridiculous dream wasn’t enough, your really going to stand there and tell me that you know what you’re doing after dropping out of school to come… HERE?”

”I jus…”

”NO! You don’t speak!”

VV slumps slightly from embarrassment as her eyes comb the area and all of the eyes now fixated on her.

”You are going to go into that building, get your thing, and march your ass right back out to this car!”

Her first instinct is to list to her father, and for just a second, she almost does, but then a warm feeling forms in the pit of her stomach…

o O (How dare they!)

[white]It’s anger...

o O (How dare they tell me my dreams are a waste of time!)

The worst kind of anger…

o O (How dare they presume to boss me around!)

The kind that makes you KNOW that you aren’t in the wrong here!

o O (This is MY life!)

Until you look back on this moment years later…

o O (And if I want to WASTE it following my SILLY dream, then so what!?!)

And feel embarrassed for yourself…

o O (I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE!)

Teenage angst...

”No dad, what’s gonna happen is, I’m going to go back into that gym and I’m going to bust my FRICKIN’ ass to achieve MY DREAMS! You are going to get back in that car, drive mom home, and have a nice dinner after wishing your daughter well on this new chapter of her life!"

So, I don’t think he fell for it. You know, that whole nah dad, I’mma big gurl now act that we just saw? Nope, I’m sure of the fact that dad knew right then and there as his daughter spouted off her bestest mostest lamest attempt at convincing daddy that she was a strong sure woman who knew exactly what the best choice was for herself!

Or in other words, dad saw right through all that… Yet, for reasons currently unknown…

”Okay… You really want this that badly huh? Okay… Well, I wish you the best pumpkin… I hope you do well here… I really do... But if you stay here, just know, you won’t be welcomed back into my home… We clear?”

Was dad serious, or was this his attempt at bluffing his daughter into bending to his will? VV wondered the same thing as her mind raced to meet this challenge…

”Thank you dad… You and mom have a safe drive home…”

She said with the toughest of faces to ever be betrayed by the slight of tears.

Her father nodded, but she couldn’t quite tell if his expression was that of respect for her standing her ground, or discontent that she had chosen to push him away? Before she could decide, he had already left for the car.

"Honey..."

”Goodbye mom!” She said with a false sense of authority, causing her mother to sigh.

"You need to understand that your father and I are worried for you. This… Wrestling… It’s not a safe thing to be around. She rolled her eyes. ”I’m sure you’ve noticed all of the crazy people that turn up on those things? You can’t really think this is a good idea when just as of last week you were still asking me to check the closet before bed!"

*LAUGHS!!!*

o O (OMG MOM WTF!!!!!)

"What’re you going to do the first time you catch the eye of one of those sick freaks? You’re going to call me and beg me to come and get you. So why don’t we save each other some time, and you just get in the car with us?"

”Goodbye mom, I’ll see you in twelve weeks!”

Okay… Goodbye… And goodluck…
