Well I'm wondering now if maybe my own way of delivering trash talk is pushing the envelope too far for what most of the current guys are used to. If it hadn't been you I'm almost wondering if somebody else would have done it.
I don't really see anybody else using the style I use anymore even though it was highly popular a couple years ago, so maybe it's good this came up now instead of later when I was putting effort into full roleplays and unknowingly pissing everyone off ooc.
Curious what others think? I know in the old days my posts would have been getting a shit ton of likes, too, so this just feels like a whole different audience than what I'm comfortable with. Is aggressive, foul mouthed, overly asshole-ish trash talk a dead art now in the xwf?
I'd be interested to know what in particular made you react Cain? I don't think you need to apologise, it's just the why that Brock needs otherwise he is going to feel his writing is not acceptable.
Well I certainly can't speak to what it was like years ago I can say that your style of trash talk is certainly not the norm here now. But that's not a bad thing. I enjoy it, even when I or one of my characters are on the receiving end of it. I definitely think it's one of those styles that takes some getting used to by the reader and at first it can come off as perhaps a bit off putting but I think as long as the person reading understands that it's all IC than it shouldn't be an issue.
FWIW I didn't see any issues with the posts you have made recently that would make me think that you were taking OOC shots.
I appreciate it but it's more than just him as I said--

Not to take the likes system too seriously but we all know for a fact when somebody hits a home run in a post they get a lot of likes. Since I have been posting with Brock the last few days I've received maybe 1 or 2 max. Out of something like a dozen posts. That says something, and if I'm not entertaining others I care, so then I'd rather not continue with that style and maybe need to think of something else.
I'm not kidding when I say it; when I would post as Sid Feder or certain other characters in the past, it was like they had an entire fan club sometimes as far as the likes and reps. I'm also realizing a lot of those people aren't around anymore though so maybe the times have changed? Even on the old boards before the like system, I'd get PM'd and complimented left and right about how sickenly brutal I could be and others asked me for tips on how they could think and write that way more easily. Maybe the xwf is just a different animal now.
Honestly, I do like your work Brock. You gave Lesnar a personality. I guess I flew off the handle for no real reason except i just don't wanna see this turn into one of those "WWE/ECW/WCW E-fed, chose yur charactr. If yur chractur isnt available u have to chose another. A list of available characters is up on that link at the bottom". You know the type. And honestly, I had no idea what I was saying, then afterwards, i felt like a complete jackass for saying it.
I like this game. I may have times when I am a bit unmotivated but I really enjoy trying to beat the guy I'm facing in a particular week.
As for Cain's gimmick...ugh...i just want people to help sell it for me. That's all. When I portray him as a beastly killer, that's exactly what he is.
But i am sorry to Brock and everyone for going Douchebag.
The awesome banner was brought to you by Morbid Fuckin Angel.
I'm going to lean more toward it being Brock (or any real character for that matter). I have a $20 bill here that says if you had done the exact same trash talking as Sid or Mr. Mystery then people would have been all over it like brown on the tip of my asparagus. lol Real characters seem to have a much harder time getting over. In fact, we didn't even used to allow them at all until recently. Even the nWo, which was arguably the most popular wrestling angle in history, never got over when we tried to run an nWo storyline here for a couple months.
Ladies and gentlemen, my name.... is Joel Rosenberg.
At least it would have been had I not been able to strike a deal with Sid in order to keep going with the Heyman pic base. Dual pic bases are cool in XWF, but at the time, Shane wasn't cool with a GM sharing a pic base with someone on the same roster. Sid and I struck a deal that allowed him to use Heyman at will in his posts as Brock, while I used Heyman as the GM. I did this because Heyman was crucial to the character I was going to portray. This was at a time that even I wasn't to interested in seeing real wrestlers in our creative fed world.
You ALWAYS must remember one thing. In our world, the XWF exists alongside WWE, TNA or whatever other shitty fed exists out there. So the occasional real character coming to the XWF would not be unthinkable. Had it not been for that rule change, no Brock, no Heyman, no Madness as we know it today.
Joel Rosenberg was no where near what I've become as Heyman, and likely never would have. Creativity is creativity, whether you're using real people or characters you made up in your head.
And to be completely 100% honest, there's no such thing as an original idea. Everything we do, everything we write has been done or been inspired by something or someone else. It's all in what you do with it.
I think I'll just scrap the plans I had. If real life wrestlers are an issue for some people then it would only have gotten worse if our plan worked and we were able to take Brock up the tag team championship ranks as a solo challenger and I'm really not looking to cause ooc beefs.
Last thing I would want is for a tag team to lose to Brock Lesnar and then get pissy about it ooc because they thought they were more original or something. I'll figure something else out I guess.
Like I said I'm glad this came to light now instead of after matches were already being booked and RP'd for. Disregard the segments I sent for Madness please.
Obviously you are free to do what you want but I really don't think it's an issue.
Are there some people who don't like seeing real wrestlers in the fed? Yes.
Do they share the majority opinion? Pretty sure they don't.
And if people want to get pissy after losing let them bitch to the GM's, it's one of the many reasons why we are here. Well that and because Shane is too busy growing his own Asparagus colony to handle everything.
Besides, there are characters here that are "original" that basically steal their entire gimmick from real wrestlers so I'm not sure how that is any different.
That's just my own two cents. And no Paul, you can't have them.
I always tread the line between OOC and IC pretty closely in trash talk. I just make sure to do it in a way that makes sense IC. Kind of like how WWE has made more of an effort recently to appeal to smark fans with promos. My thinking is that I'm writing for other writers who obviously would understand any sort of double-sided statement and it's respectable to be clever with it. I guess it's just a matter of tact.
I find it far less abrasive than blatantly using insider terms like "heel/face", "jobber", etc. in promos. I think most of the time when people use those terms, they're just being lazy.
As far as real life characters, I don't really have a problem with them and agree with Shane's statement above. I don't think I'd ever run that type of character, it just seems like a pointless way to restrict your own writing to me and I prefer to have total creative control in my writing. In the end, though, this is a fantasy roleplaying game and people should be able to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't directly ruin other people's fun (i.e., using them without permission).

You could bring in any WWE/TNA/ROH or whatever other federation's superstar that you want, whether you think they are being handled right or not.
