I was looking for some input on rp length. I saw in the rules how no actual word limits are given but only suggestions are and I wanted to know what starts getting frowned upon. Am I treading on dangerous ground when I break 2000 words? Is it going to increase chance of victory if I took a 3 or 4K and break it in half to make 2 posts instead of 1? What happens if I post 1 RP and it breaks 5000? Am I dead that week?

When I was GM.... if you post 5000 words in one RP, it better be damn entertaining. I'd suggest (and this is something I do with my own writing) if it starts nearing the 2500 word mark, break it up into two.
That's one mans opinion.
I wouldn't necessarily say you're dead that weak, but I'd definitely say make it worth the read.

As far as I know I don't think the quantity of it matters, unless you go over raYne standards (If you don't know who raYne is ''it's'' something that invaded the forum for like two weeks and it's RP's were literally chapters and chapters of writing lol...) The quality is what matters.
In my opinion, I see no reason for a roleplay to tread near the 2500 mark. As Wyatt points out, you can easily just break it into two pieces, with a cut off point/cliff hanger that can actually be far more entertaining.
I have pointed out to a few people who choose to write extremely long pieces that: Knowing when to end a roleplay is as important as the quality of it.
Though not entirely true, what I mean by that is, if you can keep the reader's (IE, management's) attention and interest throughout a long role play then it's not an issue. Just don't do a RaYne and bore half the roster to death half way in and we'll all be better off for it

I used to average RP 10k words per rp, even as high as 20k once (Morbid Angel will vouch for this). I was so glad when I came here that I could rp at a more relaxed pace. I rarely break 2k per rp these days, but I do go to the 4-5k region if its a bigger match.

Neo is right...we use to go all out back in the day and they were more like books than roleplays lol.

So basically do whatever I feel like. Got it. I'm going to just start small then and post often since it doesn't seem to matter. I used to drop a lot of 500 to 1000 word rp's way back when so I'll go back to that strategy instead of longer pieces and I'll increases as needed depending on opponent's ranking and response type.
