I try to never bitch about anything on here, and usually try to keep my mouth closed on certain issues except through PM... sometimes.

It seems when you talk about the pic base you chose as your character, to me, it blurs lines between OOC and IC. Am I off on this and should just shut up, or is that correct?

I used a Ryan Hurst pic base (Opie from sons of anarchy) originally, and someone joined the fed using the same pic and I just decided to switch to Bray Wyatt because there was a similarity to our characters.. I hate having two pic bases of same person (pet peeve) and instead of asking the guy to remove his... I changed mine. Ask Maddy, if he remembers that. He offered to talk to the guy for me. He never rp'd btw.

Since I changed the pic base to Bray, it seems I have gotten references to Bray Wyatt and Husky Harris in peoples rps against me several times. To me, this blurs the lines and really takes away from the quality of a rp.

What's done is done, but for future..

Am I right or wrong in this? If I'm wrong, then by all means I'll ignore it and move on. It just bugs me.

I find it odd people made references to actual names. Takin the piss out of how your character looks is fine eg Husky Harris. But to actually mention who that person is, to me, is pretty weird. I wouldn't say it's OOC - IC mix but I would say it's a very weak thing to write in a roleplay.

This is the sort of thing that most judges would pick up on and see a problem with. If I remember right, there was a time when somebody made some kind of reference to following the buzzards and you fired back telling them how ridiculous that was and how that person must be watching too much TV. I think that exchange happened in a news post or something, but when something like that happens in an RP exchange it should be scored very high in the favor of the person who caught the foolish comment and threw it back in the person's face.

There are many ways to use something like this against a person and those counters WILL be heavily scored by most judges. You could also choose to just ignore those kinds of references too because it's not like it will help the other person's case if they're mixing up your picbase with your character.

Though, if I may: that was about the character's appearance. Not about any comparisons between the two characters (Gilmour and Steen, respectively). Making fun of a character's appearance based on their picbase is fine, because why would someone choose a picbase that doesn't match what they at least sorta picture the character to look like?

But yeah, I agree on your point Eli. I've done it to Duke a couple times (comparing him to 'Taker that is), so I feel it isn't a totally black and white issue. If someone is able to defend that claim well enough, then it's a solid comparison and worth making. If they can't, as Shane said, judges will pick up on the comment being torn to shreds by the person on the receiving end, which is something you do very well as is.

Most of the RP was. The montage was not. To be fair to me (my favorite person to be fair to when it suits me), you used a recent picture of Mikey Whipwreck in yours for that same match saying you had seen Stevie's future.

A pic base is supposed to simply give the reader an idea of what that character might look like. It's ok to make fun of that appearance, but it's not ok to assume it's the same person or shares the exact characteristics as the pic base.

The way we see it is that we have a lot of wrestlers who RESEMBLE other famous people.

WWE reference: Think of how Mason Ryan was being called "Batista" because he looked so much like him. Nobody actually referred to him AS being a person who has done the things Batista did though. I like to think of that as Mason Ryan being a failed "character" that used Batista as a picbase. lol

I got something similar else where a couple of days ago, some idiot tried to get me by saying what I portrayed as a radio show was just youtube videos, all it is, is people who aren't good enough in character to get to you so they need to go OOC at some point just to say something worthwhile, just deny the person exists or say you found bray wyatt and he was a pretender so you took his face and burnt his family to the ground

I think saying some resembles whoever their pic base is one thing, but actually referring to them as the person they use for the pic base is another and it's that, the latter that I would take issue with. For instance, in an RP recently I said John Madison looked like Buffy The Vampire slayer, which I think is fine but if I was to refer to him as Sarah Michelle Geller than I would think that would be rather lame and shouldn't be allowed.

Some people do this the wrong way and some do it the right way. Talking about a picbase can be done in an artful form like Sewaside said but it can be done in horribly shitty form too. I remember when I used Brian Pillman, people calling me Pillman and making references to Brian so I played off of that with a special roleplay visiting Sid's past when he was a chef, and he had the nick name "Pill Man" due to his drug habits and reputation at that young age before he became clean. It wasn't something I planned on doing originally but I took it and turned it into something that worked in my favor.

I suppose I also could have just said, "Who the fuck is Pillman you stupid ass ? This is XWF!" -- and that would have worked too but I like having a little extra fun with something so easy to turn in my favor.

Just wanted to pop in and mention that as a judge it's very annoying when someone makes a reference to the person being used in someone's pic base.

Eli gets it a bunch. For whatever reason people think he's automatically a Bray Wyatt rip off just because he uses Bray Wyatt as a pic base. Same with Duke. They see the pic base and they automatically jump to "Undertaker rip off," when there are very few similarities between Duke and Taker.

It isn't against the rules for people to use that tactic, but I score it very low because it isn't interesting to read.

However, if someone makes fun of Eli for being fat and ugly, then that's fine. Same with Duke being called Count Chocula or being made fun of for wearing eye liner.

Quote:Riddle me this, in one of my rps against hank lane I used a picture of magnum ta, and said it was him, since his pic base is Magnum Ta. Cheap shot, or falls within the accepted usage?

I think it's ok as long as it's nothing that's going to alter his character's back story. For instance, if you came across a picture of Magnum getting fucked by twelve men, I don't think it would be fair to Hank for you to use that as part of your promo.
