My first thought was to start a Top 5 Favorite Films thread (which probably exists somewhere on here already but it's time for an update). Too massive a question, at least for me, taking into account all the genres that by themselves I could come up with a Top 5 or even 10 all too easily and I bet the same applies to most or all of you. So...I thought tackle it genre by genre steadily over time. Trax and Buronan have me all amped up about comic book films now and so does Gilly with his comments about a REAL damn Galactus (not a fiery fuckin cloud) and Thanos/The Infinty Gauntlet lol so, bada bing, let's do a:

TOP 5 (or more) FAVORITE COMIC BOOK FILMS

5: Guardians of the Galaxy

Appropriately in an efed I'll kick off my list with a flick that has Batista in it, even if he turned out to be not so great of an actor...and even if Drax didn't look enough like the 90s comic Drax I would've preferred. I fuckin' love Thanos though, always have, and I can't wait to see Josh Brolin play him. I ranked this however not because of Thanos, not because it was a fantastic sci/comic slammer but because of the two Quill moments with his mother. It was sad enough to watch her reach out to him as a child but to watch him relive that moment at the climax, as a guy with plenty of regrets, it hits me hard every time:

4: The Man of Steel

I do enjoy Batman vs Superman, quite a bit in fact, but I thought The Man of Steel was better. Cavill is amazing as Supes, best Superman I've ever seen portrayed. I also think Michael Shannon did a super job as Zod and the rest of the cast put in excellent performances as well. My fav scene is, as usual, when he loses papa Kent. I go for sad shit a lot :Confusedhrug::

3: The Watchmen

Number 3 is a tie in my mind with Deadpool but I'm sure that'll get a few nods without my help so I'm ranking The Watchmen as my 3rd. What an awesome film. It did the graphic novel justice IMO. I LOVE the idea of heroes being anti, especially Comedian, what a prick lol. Rorschach I truly love. Standing up for what he believes knowing it will end him:

2: Spider-Man 2

I'm a Tobey nut. I think he was the perfect Spidey. Spider-Man 2, IMO, was also the perfect Spidey film. Alfred Molina was a great Doc Ock and Sam Raimi got one particular shot with him that seemed to jump off the pages: (for lack of a short video) when Aunt May hits him and he twists around in slo-mo...hot DAMN he looks just like Ock in the comics!

1: X-Men Days of Future Past

Wow. What a film. I didn't think they'd be able to top First Class, I really love Magneto taking revenge, but THIS...is ultimate. Despite not being too keen on the comics I've kept up with the film franchise so it was the closing moments of this film that sealed the deal for me. A happy ending, everyone is back including Marsdenclops and Jean. See, I like happy shit too lol:

(this video quality sucks with edits but it's the shortest one to show my fav part)

Your turn guys and gals, I'm seriously looking forward to seeing you drop your own lists!

1: Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man was the first comic book that I ever read, and the first book that I actively collected. So seeing Spider-Man on the big screen for the first time was a really amazing experience for me. At the time, it was the best attempt at bringing a comic book to the big screen. Admittedly, it doesn't hold up as well today, but I still list it as my favorite due to nostalgia.

2: Captian America

For much the same reason as Spider-Man, Captian American was another favorite as a kid. My school library actually had some hardback editions of early Captian America comics. Him fighting Nazis and the Red Skull. Those were awesome books. I didn't so much care for the man outta time that Captian American became, but those early adventures were among my favorites. Considering that this movie focused entirely on Caps origin, it would have had to stink really bad for me not to rank it near the top.

3: Deadpool

This one makes me look like a bandwagon fan. I assure you that I'm not. I have actively collected Deadpool comics since he first showed up as a generic assassin in New Mutants. I bought, and read the Circle Chase and thought it was ok, but it was Deadpool's first ongoing series where I really begin to enjoy the character. By the time of the 2008 run, Deadpool had become my favorite character in all of Marvel. This movie was a damn near perfect big screen rendition of that character. Unfortunately now EVERYBODY likes Deadpool, and he is this decade's Wolverine. Bad news for me, because I'm spending around $100 a month just to keep up with Deadpool comics. Deadpool the duck, really???

4: Batman 1989

Michael Keaton is Batman, fuck Christian Bale! As a child, I managed to wear out in excess of 10 VHS copies of Batman. I swear I watched this movie almost daily. The score, the mood, the odd gothic feel to the film. All amazing, all Batman. The magic was lost in the sequel. It's good, but it's not Batman. By the time the Joel Schumaker films came out, Batman was just a campy joke again. Batman begins tried, and honestly did a well enough job of bringing Batman back for Adam West Hell, but they just didn't have the right feel to them. They didn;t feel like Batman, this did.

5: Superman 1978

This is where me a Caedus will butt heads. He likes Man of Steel, but Henry Cavill is no Christopher Reeve. To me, Reeve is Superman just like Keaton is Batman. This is another tape that I managed to wear out numerous times over as a child. The Krypton scenes are better, the origin / young Clark scenes are better. The love story between Clark and Lois is better. Sure, it's not an action film like Man of Steel is, but it is still a great film that stands as a timeless classic. It also captures a lot of what makes Superman comics what they are. Man of Steel is the New 52 Superman brought to life on the big screen, but Superman 1978 IS Superman.

02-10-2017, 10:44 AM Video  re:Top 5 Film Lists #1 -->

As these aren't typically my thing, I'm going to trim my list down to 3.

My favorite film based on a comic is...

Liar Game: The Final Stage

A group of strangers are chosen to play in a mysterious game with a huge amount of money on the line, including an incredibly naive and easily-scammed female protagonist with a great character arc. Violence is not allowed, it is pure mental warfare. Fantastic score/soundtrack.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the first film, was great.

Also Battle Royale, the comic that The Hunger Games generously lifted ideas from, was turned into a decent film.
