The XWF logo flies across the screen, as the scene cuts to Steve Sayors standing backstage, prepped for an interview. Beside him stands XWF rookie Smoke Man, who is standing confidently with a big smirk on his face, hands on hips, facing the camera. His gaze turns to Steve as he starts speaking.
STEVE SAYORS: Ladies and Gentlemen I am joined today by an XWF newcomer; Smoke Man. Now Smoke, after the revelation that Mr. Radio will be dropped from the War Games match, it's been announced that you will take his place, debuting inside the cage. Your thoughts?
For a few seconds, Smoke Man removes one hand from his hip and places it on his chin, as if pondering the best way to tackle this question.
At last, he says:
SMOKE MAN: If I'm completely honest Steve, I had really not been anticipating my placement in this match. To step into the ring in one of the most extreme matches that wrestling has today will be a challenge, especially since I'll be among the very best competitors the XWF has to offer.
Smoke takes a few more seconds to pause, turning his attention fully to the camera, with a stern, yet pleased look on his face. He speaks once more:
But the thing is, that is not going to deter me one bit. Since arriving on the XWF scene I've wanted that opportunity to take my chance, to show everyone else what I mean, and that I mean business. Being put into this match doesn't change that. This match will be bloody, it will be brutal, and will be extreme, but I am not afraid. If anything, this has given me an opportunity to jump ahead of the pack of 'rookies' here. I may not be the top of the class yet, but you've yet to see me in the ring.
He turns back to Steve, who has not quite finished talking himself.
STEVE SAYORS: You've been placed in the match as a replacement to Mr. Radio, who, as you may know, is a former three time 24/7 UFO Champion. My question is; do you feel any pressure filling in his place, as if your teammates, and possibly your opponents would be keeping an eye on you.
Smoke turns back to the camera and speaks, occasionally glancing at Steve to see if he's still listening.
SMOKE MAN: I've studied the team sheets a billion times over even before being placed in the match, and after hearing the news and having a good hard think about it, I do feel like pressure is being placed. I mean, you can understand, can't you, Steve? In my very first match I am being placed in a War Games situation against five opposing competitors and a team I am not to disappoint, otherwise we will not proceed into a match for the X-Treme Championship.
I know that each of my teammates, and each of my opponents know how to fight, and they know how to win, but team competitions are just about that: teams. And if anybody in the match feel that they might need to 'look after me' or 'see how I'm getting along', then they're not going to last long, whether they're my teammates or my opponents.
Smoke Man now looks completely towards the camera, unblinking. His manner of doing so is deeply threatening, even for someone as upbeat as him. In a voice that's parallel to his previous, yet with a serious edge, he plainly states:
Eyes on the prize.
He walks off, and leaves Steve alone.
STEVE SAYORS: Well, that was Smoke Man, ladies and gentlemen, surely an... interesting addition to the XWF roster. Be sure you don't miss his debut in the first of next week's 5-on-5 War Games matches, on Wednesday Night Warfare!
The cameras fade to the XWF logo, and the film cuts.
