Thomas slowly begins to regain consciousness. He opens his eyes blinking a few times before finally being able to adjust to the almost fully darkened room he has found himself in. He is lying on his back looking up towards a tall ceiling and the gothic architecture of this mysterious place.

”Where am I?” He thinks to himself.

He attempts to move but his body won’t move. Panic sets in as he fears that he may be paralyzed. He attempts to look around the room but with the lack of movement available to him his line of vision is drastically diminished. ”Where is this place? What happened to me? Where is the Night-Demon guy? All these things are running through his mind. Suddenly an excruciating pain begins to run up his spine causing him to scream aloud. As his eyes close tight the same vivid images he had seen before begin to play over in his head.

The pain eventually subsides and Thomas begins to catch his breath, he opens his eyes again but his heart slightly sinks when he realizes he is still in this strange place and not at home in bed having a bad dream. He turns his head and looks over to the left of the room where there is a set of giant wooden doors...”Wait, I can move.”Thomas gingerly gets to his feet struggling to keep his balance, his body felt stiff as though it hadn’t been moved in many years. He finally gets the full feeling in his legs back and his balance follows.

Looking properly around the room he can now see that candles are position sporadically around the walls, these candles are the only form of light and with a room this size there were still corners that are under the cover of shadows. Either side of the giant door sites a coat of armour up on the wall as well as a shield. Thomas walks over to take a look at the gothic looking shield and coat of arms.

”Is this Castle?” Thomas thinks to himself as he strokes his hand across the rough design of the shield. He then looks up to the helmet of the coat of arms which is on the wall to the left of the shield. It kind of reminded him more of one of the old Japanese Samurai Armour’s.

”Time to get out of here!” Thomas reaches the door and then for the handle...there is no handle. He pushes on the giant wooden door but it will not budge. It’s too big and too heavy...or even locked. ”How the hell am I going to get out of here?”

With panic setting in again Thomas spins quickly looking around the room for a window or another door but there is none. He walks towards the centre of the room before collapsing to his knees and holding his head in his hands, he wasn’t too proud to admit that he was scared as tears began to fill in the corner of his eyes. He stayed there in the centre of the room for a good few minutes trying to regain his composure. He rolls off of his knees and sits resting his arms on his knees as he takes some deep breaths trying to calm himself.

The deep breaths did the job he wiped the last few tears away and just sat thinking. He began to quickly look around himself, looking for any clues that my lead to his escape. He puts his hand down to push himself back up to his feet. Something touches his finger. This is a dark shadow around where he is sitting so he can’t immediately see what it was. He pats around on the ground in the dark before finally his hand comes down onto something hard. He picks it up and brings it into the light. It’s some sort of casing, It is a chrome cigar case, there is an indentation of a pattern on the front but the dim lighting in the room makes it almost impossible to see. Thomas opens up the case and a takes out a box of matches. ”Hmm?” He then notices a piece of paper lining the bottom of the case. He takes it out and unfolds it.

In order to be accepted as a full member of the order of the night demon you must complete a series of challenges. Your challenges start now.

Exit this room!

That is your First challenge.

”What the hell, What if I don’t want be a night-demon? Thomas quickly gets to his feet again and runs over to the large door slamming his shoulder against it...Still won’t budge. ”Arrghh!!

Thomas slams his shoulder into the door again; the door didn’t budge however there seemed to be a weak panel on the door. Seeing this Thomas aimed all his power at this panel. With every kick it moved but it never fell or cracked or anything that might help. Thomas feeling dejected slumped to the floor with his bag leaning against the door. He looked up above his head to see the bottom of this slightly dislodged loose panel. He stares at it for a few moments. ”What’s that?”

Thomas reaches up and pulls another piece of paper which he can see poking out from bed the loose panel in the door. As he does this the panel drops to the floor next to him. Thomas spins round onto his knees to look into the space where the panel used to be. There is nothing but a small hole where a door handle should be. ”???”. Thomas attempt to peek through the hole but there is nothing but darkness on the other side.”Where is the handle?” He remembers the piece of paper he removed from behind the panel which caused it to fall to the ground. ”Where is that paper?” Thomas looks around until he spots it half disappeared under the door. ”Got ya!” Picking it up, he unfolds it and holds it up to the light.

The light will lead the way.

” The light will lead the way. What the hell does that mean?”

Thomas stands and ponders this for a moment. He looks around the room. ”Light???, What light is in this room? Candles, that’s all, candle light. He makes his way over to one of the candle that is located in a holder that is attached to the walls just like the others. Thomas studies the candles for some time, the sticks the flame, everything. The holder was silver and shaped like a gargoyle looking out into the room. ”This isn’t helping. There must be something else.”

Thomas has a quick look back around the room. The only light that is there is from the candles, perhaps the other candles are different. Thomas heads over to another candle and inspects it, exactly the same as the last one. He continues this until he has been around every candle in the room. ”This is bull, there is no other light in here.” Thomas collapses to the floor again, mentally defeated. As he lies on his side he looks up towards the first candle he had approached.

”What!”. Thomas wasn’t sure but it seemed as though the shadow on the wall behind the candle was the shape of an arrow. He gets to his feet and moves to where he was stood before when he was inspecting the candle previously, the arrow disappeared. He steps away again and crouches down and it reappears. ”It all depends on the angle” Thomas looks to where the arrow is pointing, it’s pointing to the next candle along. Staying in this squat position so he can see the shadowed arrows on the walls Thomas moves along towards the next candle. Sure enough another arrow appeared. Thomas smiles to himself and lets out a little laugh as he looks to the next candle the arrow was pointing to see if there are any more clues. Another arrow, and another, and another.

Ok so Thomas was at the last candle now, this candle like all the others had its own shadowy arrow. ”But where?”. Thomas’ heart sinks as he realises the arrow only points to the wall that holds the door to his escape. ”Are these real arrows? am I just seeing things now? He decided to follow the arrow along the wall anyway but as expected he just meets the corner of the wall the candle is on and the wall the door is one. He shouts in anger and turns and walks away from the wall back into the centre of the room. He turns again to look at all the candles. He looks closely again at the final candle. He then crouches to see the arrow. ”Hang on a minute, this arrow isn’t pointing directly to the wall, its pointing further up.

Thomas follows the arrow again but once he reaches the corner of the room he looks up higher on the wall. He can see something but he is not quite sure what. The shadows are making it almost impossible to see in this dark corner.”THE MATCHES.”

Thomas ruins to the centre of the room and picks up the box of matches he found with the first note he received. He strikes on up and heads back into the corner holding it up. He can see something up higher now but what is it... ”It looks like a candle stick”. He lowers the match slightly to see if he can see it any easier. As he does the match lights up the corner of the room and the piece of string that was hanging down from above. Thomas goes to pull the string. ”What is this, Oh Shit.”

As he pulls the string it accidently catches light from his match. The flame quickly grows and begins to burn away the string. Thomas watches the flame rise up and up and up then suddenly past the object he was trying to see. ”Another Candle.” The flame at this point breaks into two, one half lighting this candle stick and the other half continuing up and then turning and heading across the wall. Thomas steps back and follows the flame. He steps back into the very centre of the room as the flame then turns the corner onto the next wall. He continues to watch as the flame reaches the middle of the wall and turns and begins to head down to the ground. Thomas moves closer as the flame gets lower and lower. The flame reaches the floor but then continues on across the floor directly towards Thomas he continues to watch intently. The flame passes through the middle of his legs and he turns to continue watching.

The flame gets to a certain point on the stone floor and splits into two. One half goes left the other does right. Each flame though turns again and then again until the meet again in the middle. The now single flame continues on directly towards the giant door before finally stopping. Thomas looks around for moment and the line of fire streaming around the room. ”Ha”.

He heads towards the square that the flames had made on the ground when they split into two. The stone had a carving on it, different to all other stone. It is a small carving of a gargoyle and = 3 next to it.

”Gargoyle = 4, what could that mean. Ah the candle sticks.

Thomas looks around the room at all the candle sticks. ”Right there are seven candle sticks,... maybe the forth one holds the next clue. So there are seven Gargoyles starting from the left or right it must only be the middle one.

Thomas runs over to the middle of the seven gargoyle candle holders and begins to study it. Nothing seems to give him any hints of how to get out of this room. He crouches down again and looks up at the arrow the flame causes within the shadow.

”No. That won’t help. They would us the same clue twice. It must be something with the candle stock. Wait what’s this.

Thomas runs his fingers over the gargoyle and notices an indentation in the chest of the beast. It says “5”. ”Five, that makes no sense. Oh well” He makes his way to the next Gargoyle along. ”Hello number fou...Wait what number three”. He runs to the next one which is two and then to number one. He quickly runs to other side of the room and finds six and seven. ”So it is the gargoyles, it must be but there is no number four. Oh the gargoyle in the corner, i never counted that, it must be number four. But how the hell am I going to get up there?

Thomas thinks on this looking up at the now lit candle. He looks around the room top to bottom but cannot see any way of getting to that candle stick. Shit!! How the Fuck? Thomas attempts a running jump but fall very short hurting his knee in the process. He stumbles back towards the marking on the floor where he got the clue that led him to the gargoyles. ”Maybe it says something else, something i missed.” He brushes away some dust but it doesn’t help, he cannot see anything else except for the carving of a gargoyle = 4. ” Hang on what if this Gargoyle I am looking at is Gargoyle number four, now what?”. In frustration Thomas hits his hand down on the gargoyle. Suddenly the stone on the gargoyle was carved into begins to rise up out of the ground. Thomas takes a step back and watches it continue to rise up until it eventually stops. There is a hollow space in what is now a column sticking out of the ground. Thomas gingerly reaches inside. He rummages around for a few minutes before bringing his hand back out holding a rope with a piece of paper attached to it. More clues. He opens up the piece of paper and reads the message.

Your Friend up high.

Is the key to your escape.

”My friend up high... The Gargoyle.”

Thomas quickly begins to make a noose out of the rope and heads over to the gargoyle in the corner of the room. He swings the rope around and throws it towards the gargoyle to try and get the noose to attach. After three attempts he manages to get it hooked on and he begins to climb.

He gets about half way there when the candle stick gargoyle breaks from the wall sending Thomas tumbling down to the ground with a thud knocking him unconscious in the process.

Sometime later Thomas slowly opens his eyes, the realisation that he hasn’t been dreaming his him when he sees the broken gargoyle candle holder lying on his chest. He picks it up and looks over it as he slowly and painfully gets to his feet. Everything seemed normal the same as all the other gargoyle candle sticks around the room except...”Where is the head? Thomas looks around himself for the head which he finds down by the door. It must have broken off during the fall. He looks it over carefully.”Hang on, this looks like....

Thomas places the head of the gargoyle through the hole in the giant door and twists...CLICK. The door swings open.

Thomas steps through the door with some relief, it is short lived though as he steps into a room with no windows, a little note sat on the floor in the centre of the room and a door on that far side...

WHAT IS PROBABLY LOCKED.
