“Kristie Alley from the iconic television sitcom ‘Cheers’ struggled with a cocaine addiction.”
“Michael Pena of the ‘Antman’ Marvel movies battled alcoholism.”
“John Travolta starred in ‘Battlefield Earth’ and his career plummeted.”
“What do all of these amazing people have in common? They were all saved by Scientology!”
The show’s title morphs into the logo of the Church of Scientology as the narrator walks out. A blonde woman in her mid-40’s with piercing blue eyes and a smart business suit. Her smile is framed by strong cheekbones and a prominent chin.
“Alley kicked her addition to illicit drugs, Pena learned to put away the booze, and Travolta…is still with us, thanks to the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard! Dianetics would go on to become a world-wide phenomenon and help those extraordinary people overcome seemingly insurmountable odds.”
She paused, shaking her head.
“I know what you’re thinking, you’re not special and Scientology isn’t for you. Well, you’d be WRONG! Even though you’re not special, Scientology is for everyone who wants to live their best possible life, free of mental instability and physical compromise. Inspiration & Faith will focus on one of our newest devotees, Mackenzie Michaela Grey-Lacklan; television personality and professional athlete.”
An image of the pair together appears on the screen…
Kenzi joined our Church in 2017. Kenzi lived a life of excess and delinquency before she discovered Scientology. She suffered from a debilitating and misdiagnosed malaise, crudely diagnosed as Borderline Personality Disorder. Kenzi overcame this ‘so-called’ mental illness through the power of faith. Her newfound stability enabled her to find love, settle down, and become a multimedia and sports icon!”
“Unfortunately, much of that star became tarnished when she left the church and abandoned Clarity in 2018. Her life spiraled out of control without the Church there to provide a firm foundation of faith and support. It wasn’t until a freak accident which jeopardized her sports career that Kenzi found her way back to the Church and the stability of Clarity last month. With the help of Scientology and a remarkable regiment of regenerative therapy, Kenzi has managed to overcome her injuries while finding her way back to faith!”
“Join me as I take you inside the life of Kenzi Grey-Lacklan as she not only recovers from a career threatening injury, but she goes on to test herself against an icon in the wrestling industry, Ned Kaye and his sidekick, Big D as she and her wife attempt to defend their XWF Tag Team Titles, mere weeks into her recovery!”[/i]
After a short commercial break, the show returned with a shot of Kenzi inside a wrestling ring, hitting the ropes. Terri watched on alongside her wife, Sarah as the fair skinned albino shouted words of encouragement in a high Londoner accent. Kenzi’s braids whipped behind her as she turned into the ropes and sprinted back to the other side…then suddenly came up lame, grabbing at her right knee as she stopped and dropped to the canvas. The camera jostled as Sarah slid into the ring with a concerned look on her face and Terri did the same.
"Beloved! Are you okay?!" The former Anarchy Champion started to touch her leg, then drew back in fear of further aggravation of the injury.
Kenzi gave a nonchalant wave to dismiss the concern, but the pained expression on her face gave away the fact that she was anything but okay. “It’s fine, I just tripped.”
Before she could respond with another lie, Sarah made a keen observation. "Why aren’t you wearing your brace?!"
Kenzi wore a look on her face of a child that had been caught doing something they knew they shouldn’t have. “I thought I'd be okay without it.”
"Obviously not! I don’t even know why you are doing this! I love being XWF Tag Team Champions with you…but not like this, not at the expense of your health!" Sarah put her hand on Kenzi’s shoulder. "I’ll call Theo Pryce and tell him that the match is off…we can surrender the titles and be done with wrestling! Big D and Ned Kaye are idiots and the fact that we are facing them as our first defense is laughable, but I will NOT see you further injured against the Laurel and Hardy of the XWF!"
Kenzi shook her head, looking at her wife with a furled brow. “I said I’m fine! Don’t worry about this. I just need to make sure I don’t go too fast, too quickly!”
"You’re not ready, which means that WE aren’t ready!" Sarah gave her shoulder a firm squeeze. "I won’t risk your health…not for any reason at all! We’ve had our time as champions, and now we can ju…"
Kenzi swatted her wife’s hand off her shoulder and the pained expression was replaced by anger. She struggled to get to her feet, hobbling a bit before finding her footing. She jabbed a finger in Sarah’s chest as she stood up. “No more of this stuff about quitting anything! We are a team…we won those titles together and we will fucking lose them together! We entered a tournament that no one picked us win…let alone get out of the first round of! We fought the very best team in our first match while everyone else faced teams that were so bad that no one has ever heard from them again! You think I’m going to quit now? NO! HELL NO! I had too much fucking fun rubbing that shit in the face of Shane and the rest of his dick-riding losers!” She smirked through the pain, “If Ned Kaye and Big D walk out of the match with these titles…they will do it knowing they beat the very best that XWF had to offer…or…maybe they just got lucky, since that is apparently how Big D thinks you win matches these days!”
Kenzi stood there awkwardly for a moment before Sarah broke the silence. "Fine! I won’t call Theo, but you HAVE to wear the brace…no exceptions!" Sarah held out her fist in their all too familiar match ritual. After a moment, Kenzi met her wife’s knuckles with her own and in the distance a sonic boom was heard accompanied by the screech of a majestic falcon.
Sarah looked Kenzi up and down, then replied coyly; "By the way…I thought I heard you say something about ‘getting lucky’ earlier? What do you say you and I just-"
The show abruptly cut to commercial…
When the program returned, the scene switched to a confessional as Terri sat alone with Kenzi in the Trainer’s Room. The sweat soaked star was busy pulling up the padding over her slightly discolored knee. Three tiny suture strips on either side of her kneecap was all the evidence that still existed of the experimental surgery she had gotten barely a month prior.
“Kenzi, would you mind telling us about your injury?” Terri asked, looking to dispel the silence.
“It was a freak accident during a wrestling match, and by ‘freak’ I mean it was caused by one! Vinnie Lane shot me in the side of my knee with a bean bag cannon and here we are now five months later.” She turned a bit serious as she added, “I know Vinnie didn’t mean to hurt me. He was just trying to help Roxy win…but it was a dick move and I really enjoyed trying to break both of his legs after I found out about-“
The feed abruptly cut off and was interrupted with music and a “please stand by” message on the screen…
After a few moments, the video feed returned with Kenzi continuing to answer the question about how she sustained her injury. “It was an accident, and sometimes accidents just happen. Even though I know that Vinnie Lane isn’t a practicing Scientologist, I know that living in such close proximity to such a high-level Scientologist like Roxy Cotton has to rub off on him.”
Terri seemed much more pleased with this answer. “How about your recovery? How is that going?”
“It’s going pretty well, all things considered. I’m about a month removed from the start of this new treatment I am hoping will stop the pain and keep my wrestling career going.” She flexed her leg and nodded to herself when the wrap held.
Terri added, “I think it’s important to note that this treatment method, which has not yet been approved for use in the United States, was pioneered by one of the preeminent orthopedic surgeons in the world, Stan Shi. Mr. Shi has been a valued member of our church for many years and has performed similar procedures for others, including Tom Cruise after he nearly shattered his ankle on the set of one of his movies.”
“Doctor Shi is the best in the world and that was made clear by how quickly Tom returned to filming with such a serious injury.”
“Well, we can all agree, Tom is incredibly special.” Terri clasped her hands together and glanced up. “Praise him!”
“Yup. Praise him.” Kenzi echoed, then continued affixing the heavy black brace to her knee, that covered the padding and added stability while the healing continued. The look of annoyance on her face was unmistakable, but she dutifully obeyed her promise to her wife. She gave her knee a few good whacks and the annoyance melted into begrudging acceptance.
Kenzi got to her feet, testing her legs as Terri stood up as well. Kenzi had a bit more spring in her step as she bounced back and forth. Her speed was noticeably diminished, but at least the limp was mostly gone. Terri nodded, a stunned look on her face. “That’s amazing!” Terri clasped her hands together and glanced up. “You are going to show the people the wonders and strength of Scientology Kenzi! I know it…I just know it!”
She came to an abrupt stop as she looked at Terri. “Those two fuckers are dead mea-”
Another Stand by Graphic appears as a few moments pass. The show returns as Kenzi continues on her rant…
“Ned and Big D are a very capable duo and I have little doubt that tag team gold is in their immediate future…just not against Sarah and I and not in the XWF.” Kenzi watched Terri for a moment, as if she were wondering if that response was appropriate. After she found that she was not interrupted by Tom Cruise, she continued on. “I know those two won’t be pushovers, but if either of them is expecting to just roll over Sarah and I because I had a bum wheel…well, they have another thing coming! Sarah and I beat the very best on the way to winning the XWF Tag Team Titles and I did it on one leg!” Kenzi patted her braced knee. “Now we are going to defend those titles and my leg will be just fine. That’s gonna be bad news for Ned and Big D…very bad news indeed.”
The scene cut to Kenzi and Sarah in the ring together. Sarah bounced off the ropes and hit Kenzi with a shoulder block that floored her, then bounced off the ropes and met her in the center of the ring as she got to her feet and she herself hit the mat after Kenzi delivered a shoulder block of her own. Kenzi deftly hopped over her partner, not missing a beat as she recoiled off the ropes and the process repeated all over again. The voice of the show’s host, Terri Monroe spoke over the action in the ring.
“Just like Alley, Pena, and Travolta, Kenzi continues to be an inspiration to an entire generation that watches her films and television shows, as well as those that have followed her career on the gridiron, inside the cage, and in the ring. She has blossomed into one of the most influential women in the entertaining industry…who just happens to be a practicing Scientologist!
Maybe it’s time you considered joining?”
The symbol of the Church of Scientology appeared over the screen for a moment and dissolved into darkness as the scene faded…
Sarah’s face was twisted into a mask of pure hatred as she knelt down and helped Kenzi remove the heavy brace on her knee. She glanced up at her wife, her red hued eyes shooting daggers at her wife. "I can’t believe you not only went back to that ‘church’ of yours, but now you’re shooting promotional videos for them…helping them bring more doe-eyed buffoons into their culty ranks!"
“I know you just didn’t call me a doe-eyed buffoon!!” Kenzi narrowed her eyes viciously.
Sarah matched her wife’s narrow gaze. "So, what if I did…whatcha gonna do about it?!"
Kenzi rolled her eyes, “Gonna make sure you don’t ‘get lucky’ again until this tag team title defense…that’s what!”
Sarah could only smile and shake her head as she turned her attention back to dislodging the heavy brace from Kenzi’s knee. "Big D was an idiot for even saying something like that, especially as he prepares to go up against the 5’2” Mafia! I can’t wait to hear the excuses that tumble out of his mouth like the very water that gushes from the eyes of my stone statue of Shane ! It’s going to be a pleasure to dispatch him and that dullard, Ned Kaye!"
Kenzi grimaced as the brace came off and Sarah set to removing the padding over her actual knee. “Well, I know Big D will be hungry to get more gold around his waist after losing his to Noah Jackson…”
"That fucking cunt!" Sarah chuckled as she glanced up at Kenzi. "Hey, how much is that pool up to?"
Kenzi rifled through her bag and found her phone. She flipped through a few pages until she found the one she was looking for that showed a promotional image of her television concept show: ‘Noah’s Spark…’
Social media users attempt to antagonize the volatile @XWF1999 superstar into exploding into an expletive laced rant and getting himself banned for tremendous prizes and insane amounts of cash! pic.twitter.com/YDdSq6oiQj
Kenzi stroked her chin, “Almost $27,000! I tell you, I was almost positive that Noah was gonna get banned from Twitter after going at Big D’s dumb ass today!”
Sarah let a throaty chuckle escape her. "Don’t worry Beloved, our current Television Champion gets ever closer to an epic hate-fueled rant that will get him banned from Twitter. Have faith! I know that I…"
Sarah paused as she removed the padding from Kenzi’s knee and saw how pronounced the bruising was as compared to when she’d seen it earlier. Kenzi reached down and put her hand under Sarah’s chin, lifting her head so that she looked her in the eyes. “It’s fine…I’ll be perfectly fine by match time…you’ll see!”
"I see…I see you sneaking off for some miracle cure for an injury you hid the severity of from me! That’s what I see!" She let out a heavy sigh. "I know…I KNOW…you did it for me…for the team, but I can’t help thinking that if something had happened, it would be all my fault!"
Kenzi pulled Sarah to her, holding her as she pressed their heads together. “I should have told you about the surgery…that’s my fault, not yours! I wanted this team…I wanted to find a way to stand inside the ring with you while you fought your way to a World Title and now while you make your big push to 100 wins! I want to be part of that with you…whatever it takes!” She shrugged, “Maybe I made a bad call by not telling you…but I made it and now you and I are set to step back in the ring to defend what we fought so hard to win. If I had to give this title up without a fight…I would have never forgiven myself!”
Sarah pulled back, looking down at Kenzi’s discolored knee. "Well…thank the good Lord above for you coming out of that mad scientologist’s lab with the ability to still walk! It’s a blessing Beloved. I know you don’t believe in the Lord, but he was certainly looking out for you when He knew I could not."
Kenzi covered her face as she let out a hard sigh. She thought to herself that this was as good a time as any to tell Sarah about the details of her surgery and yet another reason why she had done it in secret. “Sarah…I have another confession to make. About the surgery…I know you’re not going to like it, especially with your religious beliefs…but…” Kenzi took a deep breath, then let the words tumble out. “…the surgery I had was banned in the U.S. because of the use of stem cells…”
Sarah blinked in confusion. "…pardon?"
Kenzi rubbed her face. “…embryonic stem cells…” Kenzi braced herself against her wife’s righteous fury. She knew that her strong stance as a practicing Protestant would see this type of treatment as something akin to the murder of unborn children. Still, it was a secret that she couldn’t keep hidden. After a few more moments of silence, Kenzi asked in a weak voice, “Babe?”
Sarah’s red eyes blinked and suddenly, almost reverently, she leaned down and kissed Kenzi’s knee. Her red eyes welled with tears, Sarah pulled back, looking down at Kenzi’s discolored knee. "Beloved…God used Scientology to give you a blessed knee!"
Kenzi scratched her head as she held in a chuckle, wondering if wonders would ever cease…much like their current XWF Tag Team reign. With just over one week left, she would need all the blessings she could find to be ready for Ned and Big D!
