"Freeze!"
The simultaneous screams from the four officers filled the once silent house with unneeded noise. So much for going in quietly, it appeared. Their stomping footsteps echoed against the the wooden floor beneath their boots, coating the already startled occupants with a heightened sense of dread. Jumping into the bedroom at the first sound of trouble, Rebecca lay against the carpeted floor, shaking like a beaten dog. Luca, eyes widened, stood still as a statue, one hundred percent aware of what awaited him in the hallways despite his inability to believe it.
"They wouldn't..." he began, either unable or unwilling to finish that thought.
"They wouldn't what? Who are they?" Rebecca shot back, voice shaking. Her eyes darted from the bottom of the wall in front of her to meet Luca's. Fear bled down from his corneas to the sides of his face. He gulped, trying to find the words to explain the situation to his law abiding hosts.
"You know those crimes I talked about?" he finally managed to choke out.
"Yeah, the ones you told me you shouldn't talk about?"
"Well, these are the guys that got me off on all charges. They want me."
"Well, no shit they want you! You think crazy motherfuckers just barge in here on a regular fucking basis?!" she retorted, raising her voice and getting back to her feet. Once there, she charges over to where Luca slouched, half ready to strangle him on contact. He grabs her arm, twisting it behind her back and and pulling out from his back pocket - a pistol.
"Now, if you want to live," he says, placing the barrel of the gun against her head. "You're gonna do exactly as I say." Smirking, he cocks the gun back before returning it to its previous position.
"Hey assholes! I'm right here!" he screams. Sitting on her bed, Natalya hides her face in her hands, crying out from the concealment of her palms.
"Luca, Luca stop."
"I'm afraid I can't do that, sis. It's either me," He scrapes the barrel against Rebecca's head, drawing a spot of blood. She begins to cry out, her screams accompanied by a wild snicker. "Or them! Come on and get me, you fucking pussies!"
Bang! He pulls the gun away from her head to fire a shot up into the air. Cocking the gun once more, he places it against the gash on her temple. At that very moment, the team floods the room, four guns aimed against his one.
"What's wrong? You couldn't be sure about sending one guy after me? Sending four seems like a pussy move douchebag!" he screams to no one in particular, avoiding eye contact with any of the new occupants of the small room that now housed seven very uncomfortably. Aaron Goldblum, the group's leader, steps forward, gun drawn and aimed at Luca's head.
"You're a fucking psychopath." Goldblum stated. "Let the girl go."
"Wow, you drive a hard fucking bargain. Let the girl go so you can fucking shoot me in the face and dispose of me like trash!"
"You are trash."
"And what does that make you? What, when all the heat falls directly on all your asses and you're next on his fucking hitlist? Will you not do the same exact thing?"
"We won't have to deal with that, Luca."
"Can I fucking talk to someone other than this fucking robot?"
"You can talk to me, asshole," said the approaching Archie Lawson, whose face Luca couldn't help but recognize.
"Well holy shit! Is that the Archie Lawson? Wow man, times have certainly changed!"
"Shut the fuck up, and let her go."
"Who am I to argue with that logic? Oh, right. Someone with some fucking sense! Fuck off, I ain't letting go of shit until you tell me that I ain't getting capped on the way out the door."
"You aren't going to be shot, Luca. You're much more valuable alive," Goldblum interjected.
"Fuck off, soldierbot. I didn't ask your opinion."
"Luca, please..." Natalya persisted behind the cover of her palms. Archie takes his eyes off of Luca for a minute to check on the crying girl.
"You're a real fucking piece of work."
"I know," Luca says, adjusting his hand's position on the grip of the handgun. A small click is heard, before he takes the barrel off of his hostage's head and aims it right at the face of his former coworker. He throws Rebecca to the ground and takes one step towards the group.
Bang! Bang bang! Bang! A flurry of pistol fire rains from the four men, leaving Luca as little more than a pile of glorified Swiss cheese. He falls to the floor, his blood splattering against the wall with each bullet that passes through his descending body. Screams from both Rebecca and Natalya fill the air as Goldblum and Roman, who had stayed quiet during the exchange, lift the body up and carry the mangled, bloody mess out the door. Aaron looks down at the frozen static face of the recently deceased, his cold eyes staring up at him.
"We've acquired the target, but there were, complications," he says into the radio on his chest.
"I heard," the voice on the other end of the line responds. "It's nothing we can't deal with."
Aaron nods. "As you wish, boss." He brings his head up, but before he can one last image of the man's face greets his eyes.
A smile that shook the team leader's foundation to the very core.
