The ground was muddy and Elisha’s feet sank deeper and deeper with each step he took. When he found himself in the woods, it was instinct that took over. Instinct that led to him satiating his hunger with whatever plant or animal he could find. Instinct is was helped him stay alive. It was instinct he had never developed, himself. No, Eric Rex had developed that instinct through years of training in the military and as a mercenary. Eric Rex, and now Elisha, was a survivor.

He came across the cabin that Eli had given to him, and cautiously approached it. It was deep in the woods, far from any of the other houses in The Village and Promise Land. Elisha peaked in through each window, surveying every room he could. Then he stepped onto the porch. The wood creaked and he twitched. He nudged the door with his hand and it slowly opened.

Inside, he found the cabin completely furnished. Furnished to what would have been Eric Rex’s liking. Very minimal design. Not much on the walls other than a bookshelf. A single recliner and a couch. The kitchen had one bowl, a spork, and a cup. There were two bedrooms. Both had a twin-size bed. All in all, it was exactly the same furnishings Eric Rex had had in his apartment. Eli had gone to great lengths to get it right.

It was all wrong.

Elisha found a set of matches set next to a candle on a counter next to the recliner. He grabbed it and glared at the package. His head began to twitch slightly.

“N-n-n-n-no no, Eli-Elisha. He di-di-did this fuh-fuh-for you. It’s ni-ni-nice.”

He lit the match and dropped it on the recliner. He stood there for a bit longer than he should have and watched the chair go ablaze.

“N-no NEED! NO NEED!”

He walked outside and sat in the mud, watching as the entire cabin burned to the ground. A hand…Lacey’s…came from behind and rested on his shoulder.

“Elisha, why did you do that?” she asked him.

“We-we-we-we-wuh-wuh-…,” he lowered his head, frustrated at not being able to properly explain himself to his 8 year old mother.

“We? Go on, Elisha. What is it?”

“We duh-don’t…NEED it.”

Lacey leaned forward and kissed Elisha on the back of his head. The mask smelled rancid, but she didn’t notice. At this point, she’s just as rank as he is. They both belong to Eli’s Congregation, but they’re separate. The others don’t understand them. They fear them.

Once Lacey discovered the monster in the woods, the other girls, and women too, seemed just as afraid of her as they did of the apparition that had been leaving animal carcasses all over the compound.

When Eric Rex was sacrificed by The Congregation, Lacey was furious. The girl didn’t even cry. She swore that she would get vengeance on them all. However, once she was taken in by Eli, she was shown that everything does indeed work out for those that believe. It took a while to get her integrated with the others.

At first, they allowed Lacey to play with the other children. That went sour quickly when some of the kids teased her about Rex. They made fun of her for being so attached to someone who wasn’t her real father. They teased her because of his sin that led to him being burned on a cross. They received a Cuban Necktie in return. An emotional 8-year old trained by a deadly mercenary is not something you leave with regular 8-year olds.

Lacey had learned a lot from Eric Rex. How to fight, how to manipulate people, and what to do if he stopped being himself. When she discovered in the woods amongst the injured cameraman and reporter, the first thing she did was sneak him into their truck with a DVD she had stashed away. It was a KnightMask match.

“Do you remember KnightMask?” she had asked him.

He tilted his head. He didn’t utter a sound.

“He hurt me. He never apologized. This is his apology.”

Elisha tilted his head to the other side.

Lacey turned the DVD on and played the part of the video that showed KnightMask applying the Knightlock. They watched it over and over and over. Elisha mimicking KnightMask’s arm movements during the move. Lacey took him back to the spot she found him. The crew was still there.

She had him apply the leg-lock to the cameraman over and over and over again. This was KnightMask’s Apology, whether he liked it or not. This was the price she was charging for KnightMask assaulting her.

Soon, it will be used on Sebastian Duke for abandoning them.

Lacey went into the camp to hear one of Eli's sermons. Elisha returned to the cave he had found weeks ago deep in the woods. He fumbled with the camera retrieved from the cameraman for a few moments, but eventually got it turned on. He stared into it, confused. His head occasionally twitched. Again, he began to pull at the mask.

"Thi-thi-thi-THIS IS MY...face. You killed...you yuh-yuh-YOU KILLED ME! Not me. Yuh--you...This is on your head. ERIC REX IS duh-duh-DEAD! Elisha lives now and he is buh-buh-BETTER! There is a cuh-cuh-cuh-cuh...There is a-a-a curse, Duke. ON YOU! A CURSE ON YOU! Yuh-yuh-you are 'the me-me-messiah'. I will tear the Angel uh-uh-OF DARKNESS FROM THE SKY! SET THE MESSIAH ON FIRE!"

With that, he turned the tape off. He sat, indian-style in the middle of his cave and rocked silently back and forth for what had to have been 4 hours.

Back in camp, Lacey was aloud to speak to the youth.

"I know some of you are afraid of me, and I'm sorry. But, I won't do anything to anyone that hasn't brought it upon themselves. Just like Elisha. Both of us is what The Almighty uses to get back at bad people. In the book there's a story about a man named Elisha that everybody makes fun of. A bunch of kids, even. He cursed them and 2 bears came and ate up all the kids making fun of him for his bald-head. So, you shouldn't make fun of Elisha. And you shouldn't make fun of me. And you should all pray that The Almighty doesn't hurt Mr. Duke or Mr. Griffin as bad, because if not, then The Almighty can use them too. We can all be used, no matter what we did or how bad we were. That's what makes The Almighty special. That's why Elisha and me and Mr. Mystica are going to Wednesday to try to bring them in. We don't need to be champions to know we're special. We've been set apart. The Almighty says we're special. We're all special. Pray that they make it here safely to be special too."
