The sounds from downstairs flooded in like a river. Jack West was off on his guitar, slamming chords and ripping up solos. He really was a frighteningly talented player. But even as Guy Toadie listened from upstairs, he felt uneasy. When he had signed up for Warfare, he hadn't been expecting his second match to be a full-blown gauntlet! Staring at the card, now taped up on the wall opposite the couch from where Guy sat, he counted out the participants and their number of entry. He was number three.
"Jeez. I take down two guys my first time in, and then they throw me in place number three. Am I the guy of threes? A triple threat...number three. Yeah, Guy Toadie! He's the number three guy!"
He chuckled warmly to himself. It was actually quite a relief to be able to laugh it all off. Ever since he started his wrestling gig, he had grown rather anxious. Back in his childhood home, he used to wrestle with his brother and sister, emulating moves they had seen Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior pull off on TV. More often than not, it ended in bruised knees and cries for mom. But it was all in good fun, and much different than actually being in the business.
Perking up a bit, Guy looks to the card again.
"Number three. No chance. No freakin' way. But I guess it's worth it in the long run. Exposure. Probably not walkin' out of there with a title shot...but I'll walk out. Guess that's what matters. Pain is just a pulse if you ignore it. That's what I can be proud of. Walkin' out. I'm walkin' out alive."
