Fast forward 10 years…the pressures of sporadic bookings…promotors that are constantly trying to screw you over to keep more money in their pocket…complete and udder hell for a performer of my caliber. Kelsey had to get a real job, went to school and became a lawyer at a local law firml, to help out as our lifestyle had eaten a big chunk out of everything that we had…made it to the top, spiraled back towards the bottom. The cracks had started to form…Kelsey wanted a family, I really didn’t think it was the right time with everything going on in our lives. It caused an insane amount of stress…fights…heartaches. It all had to come to a head eventually…neither of us were prepared for it…how could you be prepared for it?
(Kitt is leaned up against the wall of the law office where Kelsey is a partner, waiting for Kelsey to get off work. The glass doors open and his beautiful blonde wife walks out, her head is down and she looks upset. Kitt walks over to her and she looks up, her makeup is streaked with lines where the tears have made their way down her cheeks.)
Kitt: (concerned) What’s wrong baby? What happened?
(Kelsey shakes her head, closes her eyes and puts it back down. Kitt uses a finger, gently raising her head to look at him. She slowly opens her eyes to look Kitt in his.)
Kitt: What’s….wrong?
Kelsey: Kitt…I don’t know how to even start…
Kitt: (concerned) Baby, you can tell me anything.
Kelsey: Not this…
Kitt: (reassuringly) Baby….please…what’s going on?
(Kelsey bites at her bottom lip, looking away from Kitt and is fidgeting. She finally looks him in the eyes.)
Kelsey: Kitt…I’m pregnant….
(Kitt’s eyes light up as he is shocked but a smile crosses his face.)
Kitt: Honey, that’s gr-
Kelsey: …it’s not yours.
(Kitt stops mid-sentence as her words sink in. He takes a few steps back, his knees almost buckling beneath him. His face is filled with shock as tears begin to run down Kelsey’s face once again.)
Kitt: What?....What do you mean….not mine?
Kelsey: Kitt…I want to come clean to you. I haven’t been true to you….there have been other guys an-
Kitt: (furious) OTHER GUYS!?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN OTHER GUYS!?! HOW MANY!?!
(Kelsey takes a few steps back and she puts he head down again, too ashamed to face Kitt.)
Kelsey: Five….
(Kitt looks like he is punch drunk at the news that he has just been given. Five other men have been with his wife. Never once had the thought crossed his mind to be unfaithful to his wife but yet it is obvious that this wasn’t a mutual feeling. Kelsey looks up at Kitt and wipes the tears from her face.)
Kelsey: I’m leaving Kitt…I have found someone that wants the same things as I do….a family….to settle down and quit trying to relieve the glory days. It’s over Kitt…this marriage…your career…it’s all over. I hope that you can accept that.
Kitt: So all the “I love you”’s and our marriage vows didn’t mean shit to you did it?
Kelsey: In the beginning, yes. We had a lot of fun Kitt, but we want two different things. I want a family and settle down….you still want to win championships and prove to everyone that you still got what it takes to be the big name on the marquee. I’m sorry Kitt…you will find someone better…someone that wants the same things as you do…but it’s not me anymore. I’m so sorry Kitt.
(The glass doors open again and a middle aged, sharp dressed man walks out of the office and stands, staring at Kitt and Kelsey. Kelsey looks over and holds up a finger to indicate that she still needs a minute. She turns back to Kitt.)
Kitt: So, that’s it, huh? You just go off and find Mr. Suave (points in the direction of the man) and dump me off like I’m yesterday’s garbage. This is bullshit Kels and you know it.
Kelsey: All I can say is I’m sorry. Jack and I are happy and we are going to be together. I’ll get the divorce started and we will get through this.
(Kelsey turns and quickly walks away. Jack places his arm around her as they continue towards the parking lot. Kelsey looks back at Kitt who places his hands over his face, slowly walking backwards until he back against the wall and slowly slides down the smooth surface to a seated position on the concrete. His body jerks as the sobs begin and the emotional floodgate is opened full force. Kelsey looks at the ground and turns away, engaging in conversation with Jack as they make their way to the parking lot.)
About a month later, the papers arrived. Relatively easy split. She wanted half of everything. Typical.
(Kitt is seen sitting on his couch in the living area of the Kennedy mansion, his clothes disheveled, empty beer and whiskey bottles laying around the coffee table in front of him. Kitt grabs a bottle from the table, unscrews the top and tips it back, consuming a rather large amount before bringing the bottle back from his lips. Kitt leans back into the couch, bottle still in hand as the camera pans around to see a stack of papers with the head line “Kelsey Kennedy vs. Kitt Kennedy”.)
There are worse things that death. The loss of everything you ever known…the loss of the one true love of your life…the loss of all happiness….the embrace of loneliness. It all leads down paths we never want to take…but at the same time…it unlocks something deep inside…a monster that when it is released….can become everyone’s worst nightmare.
(Kitt snaps awake, looking at the ceiling above his bed with Alex is resting her head on his chest. Kitt looks at the alarm clock, 3:30 am. Kitt looks back at the ceiling.)
Kitt: You have got to quit this shit.
***SCENE CHANGE***
(The scene opens with Kitt and Alex watching the news in the den of the Kennedy mansion. The news stories of the recent events at the XWF arena and the local coverage of the horrific attacks in St. Louis and being covered. Kitt sits in silence as he watches, the anger in his eyes is evident. Alex covers he mouth in horror as the attacks are covered in detail. Kitt finally has enough and closes his eyes, leans back into the couch, clearly in deep thought as he is processing what he just saw. Alex looks at Kitt, her eyes are wide still as she slowly shakes her head.)
Alex: Can you…I mean…all those innocent people. Fans Kitt….your fans…
(Kitt remains silent, staring off into space. Kitt suddenly leans forward and slams his hand down on the coffee table.)
Kitt: What the fuck!?! Who does this guy think he is!?! Those people didn’t deserve that shit, none of them!
(Kitt pops up off the couch and walks over to the crystal decanter he has sitting on another small table. Kitt pours himself a glass of whiskey and quickly downs it. He immediately pours another glass, caps the decanter and turns towards Alex, leaning against the table.)
Kitt: This guy has to pay for what he has done. No respect for human life…
Alex: He’s dangerous Kitt….I’m a little scared about this one.
(Kitt takes a long drink from his glass and shakes his head as he puts it down. He looks back up and then turns to look at Alex.)
Kitt: Don’t be. He is focusing his attention on innocent people that are defenseless. I’ve seen many people like this…they put on this big show…a façade to try and strike fear in others to gain an edge…gain control by getting into someone’s head. (chuckles to himself) They are full of shit. Once their bluff is called and the mask they are hiding behind is ripped away, they are nothing more than a weak, pathetic excuse for a human, almost like a baby without their security blanket…they have lost the power that they once possessed over the population. But it’s all just an illusion…they never had the power to begin with.
(Kitt looks up slightly at an angle towards the ceiling on the other side of the room.)
Kitt: You know what I find amazing, babe?
Alex: What’s that?
Kitt: (turning his head back to look at her) These foolish newbies and no namers that continue to come at me like they want to make a name for themselves. Shaker Jones…squashed…Nate Higgers…beat like a drum…now this Witch Doctor clown that thinks he is different than the rest. He may think that he’s different but yet his attempt to use me as a stepping stone will end just like all the rest…me standing victorious over his broken body. I don’t have time to mess with these little piss ants, I’ve proven that I am in a league far beyond anything they will ever reach. I’ve beaten the current Hart Champion, Michael McBride, I’ve beaten, then Intercontinental Champion, Bearded War Pig, and I have taken Dolly Waters to her limit in one of the most hellish structures ever made. So what makes these punks think they can hang with me? What makes them think they are worth the time it takes me to come to that ring and beat their ass? It’s all about their ego…they want to become famous…get their name out there that they were able to beat Kitt Kennedy. Not happening. I’m going to get my hands on this guy and he is going to regret ever being booked in a match with me. I’m going to be the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up, the reason he looks over his shoulder a hundred times a day, and the last image burned into his brain as he tries to go to sleep at night.
Alex: Just be careful Kitt. They know just how good you are, that’s why you constantly have a target on your back.
Kitt: I know. They just have to reali-
(An image flashes onto the screen of the television that catches Kitt’s eye. A small boy with a crooked grin, brown hair and blue eyes flashes up on the screen. The little boy is wearing a “Highlight of the Night” shirt and the caption on the bottom of the screen for the news story reads “Johnathan Burke”.)
“Eight-year-old Johnathan Burke was in attendance with his dad, Larry Burke, on the night of the deadly area blaze. Johnathan’s mother, Carrie, said in a statement, ‘Johnathan was so full of life. He loved wrestling and always cheered on his favorite wrestler Kitt Kennedy. He wanted to be a wrestler when he grew up and he always wanted to meet Kitt.’ Both Johnathan and his father died as a result of the fire.”
(Kitt’s head drops as he fights back tears, the image of the young boy stuck in his head. Kitt looks up at Alex, tears in his eyes.)
Kitt: I’m going to get that son of a bitch, Alex! Mark my words! I’ll finish that fucker’s career just as quickly as it got started!
(Kitt quickly turns and throws his glass against the wall. The glass explodes into tiny shards and the remainder of the whiskey slowly runs down the wall. Kitt walks out of the den and through the kitchen to the double doors leading out onto the patio area. Kitt opens the door and slams it behind him. Alex turns and looks at the image on the television of young Johnathan as tears well up in her eyes and slowly slide down her cheek.)
Alex: Rest in peace baby boy…your hero will take care of everything for you now…
(The camera focuses in on the image of the little boy on the television screen as the scene slowly fades to black.)
