The scene opens in a dimly lit, studio apartment. The city: Oakland, California. The camera pans the room, scanning the mahogany floor, passing through cracks between floor boards, the moonlight shining on saliva droplets morphed into ovals in the woodboard. Moving from right to left, we see what $600 a month in Oakland truly gets you...
Santos: Dresser, desk, lamp, chair... and five feet of goddamn space.
That's what $600 gets you, every month, in Oakland, California.
The camera pans on Tony Santos, a lost creature in the XWF, a forgotten soul in life. His girlfriend, Shannon, who broke up with him, then reappreared, then disappeared in his life, was gone. His family, vanished. San Francisco, his former home, burnished him like a forgotten man looking for tech riches.
Tony Santos spent the past three months in a shelter, warding off homeless vagrants, removed from a life of somewhat-privilege. Tony Santos, a man who, while never pampered, found ways to thrive and survive, was stuck toiling with the underlings of Oakland, realizing that Brighton, Massachusetts was a long way from home. And here he was, over a year removed from professional wrestling... working in landscaping, construction, and even as a server....
...only to realize he missed his calling. He missed traveling the country. He missed the battles. He missed the nights under the arena lights, fighting not just physically, but mentally, for a place of supremacy. For the opportunity to not just succeed, but to conquer. Tony Santos missed dropping Swanton Bombs on unwitting, but completely worthy, opponents.
Instead, Tony Santos sat in his bed, in Oakland, California, relishing the thought of a fight.
Santos can be seen laying down his bed, his hands behind his head, short, black hair scrunched, his single front tooth exposed to the light above.
Santos: It's been a while. I've faced the likes of John Madison, Luca Arzegotti, Eli James, and Theo Pryce. I've battled top talent, I've held titles, and I strike fear in wrestlers afraid of getting dropped with a Final Destination. It's been too damn long, and it's time to take the God damn world by storm.
It's time to wake up.
Tony Santos smiles.
