It was dark, cold and I was starving. I knew what Zak and Niva were trying to do but if they thought they could win like this...they had another thing coming. Everyday I felt myself grow weaker. It was hard standing sometimes but I still tried to break the cell. I looked down at my hands and sighed. If my hands looked this bad, I didn't want to know how bad the rest of my body looked.

"Mommie?"

Mackenzie's soft footsteps made me look at the stairs.

"Hey baby..."

My voice cracked from lack of use but Mackenzie still smiled.

"Can I sleep down here? Lila keeps kicking me and I had a bad dream."

I nodded and watched as he moved to the cot Nova and Zak had been using whenever one of them tried to break me.

"Are you evil?"

"Sometimes."

"Am I evil?"

I smiled softly, "Do you want to be?"

"I don't know...It looks scary."

"Mackenzie, you are part vampire. Your grandfather is a very dark man. You have evil in your blood. It's the nature of the beast and sometimes...we aren't strong enough to hold it back."

"So...when I'm bigger, I get to be strong and dark and evil?"

I nodded and he looked down for a minute before looking back up with a smile, "I think that's okay. Madyson will be evil too...Daddy can't stop her from what is our blood. I get to play with my sister again."

The door to Nova's lab opened again and I growled, the shadow wasn't someone I had seen in these few weeks nor had I even believed they were brave enough to approach me again.

"You're either very brave, very stupid or very bored."

Mackenzie knew that he shouldn't be down here when I got like this so he took off upstairs with the promise of visiting again. The shadow turned to watch him vanish around the corner before they spoke.
