August 12, 2016
7pm
Charlotte, North Carolina

The camera opens as the sun is setting over Charlotte. The camera pans across the skyline of Charlotte and begins to fall on the campus of UNC-Charlotte. As the camera pans across the campus, it zooms in on the sign for Robinson Hall, the performance arts building on the campus. The camera falls in behind several people making their way into the door. A paper sign on the outside door reads, “Elevation Church: The Power of One”. The camera follows the people into the auditorium and settles in on the balcony. On the stage, behind a podium stands Chris Chambers. As the crowd begins to settle down, Chris Chambers reaches behind his back and turns his headset on. He smiles and begins to address the crowd.

Chris: Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I want to thank you for joining us here tonight for our service. Here at Elevation Church, we believe that the gathering is just a small part of what God has called us to do. In the book of Matthew, Chapter 6, Verse 33, the bible says: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” And that is our goal here, to seek His kingdom and make disciples. I am only here to share a small story for you before I leave for my first televised XWF fight. I want to share with you exactly what is the “Power of One.” When I say that, what comes to your mind? If you stop and think about it, the power of one kind word, one kind action, one kind gesture can make someone’s day, can save someone’s life, and can motivate someone to make a good change in their life. The power of one person, like the Apostle Paul, who is responsible for almost one third of the entire New Testament. As you go forward with tonight’s message, I want you to think, about the power of one, let God work through you tonight, and may God bless the rest of this service. Thank you!

As Chris walks off the stage, he pulls the head microphone off and hands it to someone working on the side of the stage. Chris walks out the side door and steps into a hallway. Chris walks out the entrance of the auditorium and down a large set of stairs. As he gets to the bottom of the stairs, a car pulls up and Chris opens the door and jumps in. The driver looks back at Chris and makes sure that he is settled in and starts driving. Chris pulls up his cellphone and starts recording a video.

Chris: I feel obligated to record the rest of this message because I was crunched for time. The power of one as it pertains to my career in the XWF. If me being focused on my religion and my faith brings Robbie Bourbon to maybe change his life choices and stop drinking, then maybe that was my ONE purpose to be here in the XWF, then I will be gratified in knowing that I helped change his life for the better. Robbie, I have prayed for you since we inked this match, and I truly hope that you find some kind of healing through all this, but to find peace, you must first go through the pain, and I’m sorry to say, but that pain will be at my hands. I seriously have been looking forward to this match because I have never been pushed to my limits like you have been pushing me. I want to thank you for giving me this chance Robbie, truly, win or lose, you have been a gracious opponent, no matter all the trash you’ve talked, I have welcomed this challenge and look forward to tomorrow night. And Robbie, I really must thank you, I hadn’t been in touch with my lyrical side in many years, so to feel that flow through me again. I really feel like you removed my leash or unlocked the cage that has been holding me back. So truly from the bottom of my soul I thank you. I feel as if I am starting to really come into my own here in the XWF. So while I’m making this quick trip to Vegas, I am probably going to start writing again and really enjoy the freedom that has come with some of these old chains that I didn’t even realize I still had holding me back from expressing myself. What an amazing God that we serve, that allows these walls to come down just in time for my match with you Robbie. Anyway, enjoy your last few hours of freedom, because once we step into that ring, it’s going to be a whole different ball game. Have a great night!

Chris turns off the camera and starts laughing. Just as he puts his phone into his travel bag the car comes to a halt. The driver hops out and opens the door for Chris. The driver grabs a few bags out of the trunk and Chris grabs his travel bag and they make their way through the terminal and towards the boarding gate. The driver drops off Chris’ luggage waves bye to Chris. Chris makes his way through the boarding gate and finds his seat on his flight. He pulls a notepad out of his bag and puts it in the overhead storage. He sits down in his seat, and leads his head up against the window and takes a deep breath before he starts writing.

The journey has been slow
The dream seemed to be fading
Pain I wish I didn’t know
Feels like I spent my whole life waiting
My faith finally to be rewarded
My destiny won’t be thwarted
My career will be decorated with gold
One of the greatest stories ever told
How faith pushed me up the ladder
Every mold will I shatter
Thanks be to the one true King
All his praises I will sing

Chris stops writing and takes a deep breath. Just as he puts the pen down, a male figure sits down beside Chris and puts his hand on his shoulder. Chris looks up and realize it is Steve Sayors sitting beside him. Chris slides his notebook down beside him and smiles as he begins to speak.

Chris: Steve, what’s up my man? Been a few days since we spoke last!

Steve: Yes, been a busy few days for you, I mean with your house show victory, and now on the eve of your fight with Bourbon, as well as preparing for your showdown with Madison. You really have a lot on your plate these next few weeks.

Chris: Well I told you when I got here Steve, I ain’t going to back down from any competition coming my way. I mean, if I can get through these first few fights with victories, I am setting myself up to be in a position to challenge for basically any title I want. I mean you know I’m doing something right when I have people like Bourbon and Madison chomping at the bit to get in the ring with me. And when I get that victory tomorrow night and still undefeated, people will start looking closer at the fact that when I say I’m going to do something, I do it, and I do it above and beyond what is expect of me.

Steve: Well you know Chris, Robbie Bourbon is one of the top athletes in the XWF. He is really high caliber performer and when you face him, it looks like you are facing him at his best. He has really stepped up his game in preparing for this match with you, so it seems that you are really drawing the best out of the people here in the XWF, so well done!

Chris: I didn’t expect anything less Steve. That is the problem I face in everything I do, I don’t knock people down, I try to build them up, thus pushing them to be better, it makes me have to work all that much harder to defeat them. I just think when you put yourself up against the best, you have to give it your all, and if you come out victorious, then you are all that much more better, and if you fail, well then, you go back to the drawing board and push towards that bar that was set before you.

Steve: I see what you are saying Chris, but the rest of the federation seems to think different. You hear all these whispers behind closed doors about you. Not to point any fingers, but majority of the fed thinks you are seriously a joke Chris. I mean, I am all for you and support you one hundred percent, but there are so many people who are behind your back calling you names and really throwing you under the bus, what do you have to say about that?

Chris: Well the way I see it, people can say what they want to say. People are too afraid to see who they are or what they are, so they hide in the shadows, and you never see light when you hide in the shade. The only thing I can think is that they are afraid. I don’t know what they are afraid of, I am just a man, and I will be giving my all every time I step into that ring, and hopefully when it all pans out, you will be looking at the new X-Treme Champion.

Steve: You are really set on that X-Treme title aren’t you Chris? Why not Intercontinental or Hart, or even the Universal title?

Chris: Well Steve, if I’m honest, the titles are just a means to an end. I don’t care if I never get a title shot, because my achievements in the ring and out of the ring will speak for themselves. I will do what I really do best, and that is hurt people. I promise you this, you are going to see a different side of Chris Chambers once that bell rings tomorrow night. You truly are not prepared!

Steve: Wow Chris, a little bit of a mean streak coming out there. Everything ok?

Chris: Yeah, I am okay, just a little on edge. I’m excited to finally be on national television, in front of the whole world standing face to face with Robbie Bourbon. This has what I have been working my entire life for, and finally, here we stand on the precipice of my lifetimes work, and I will not look down, I will not look back, I will keep marching forward, and God willing, I will walk out victorious and one step closer to my dreams.

Steve: I hear you big fella. Well enjoy the rest of your flight Chris, try to relax and get a little rest, tomorrow is a big day for you.

Chris: I appreciate you Steve. I just am going to write some more and then I will try to get a little shut up eye before we land. I’ll see you soon, and hopefully you will be covering my interview as a winner.

Steve stands up and pats Chris on the shoulder as he walks back towards his seat. Chris pulls his notebook out and starts jotting a few more words down as the screen begins to fade to black.

These feelings of rage start racing back
Feels like my whole body is under attack
Feel like I’m slowly losing control
Past is starting to take its toll
