Act Two, Scene Five

The curtain rises and the lights flicker on. Soft music begins, slowly swelling louder. The stage is set up in two halves; on the left is the ring with half the chorus line dancing around it. To the right is the backstage area, where the other half is dressed like the staff and running about mimicking show preparation. A cheery, excited, fast-paced tune begins. The light fades on the left side as Steve Sayors enters from the right and dances to center stage.

“So much left to do, with time I must race
It’s full steam ahead, try to keep up with my pace,
There’s everything to do with no time to waste,
Time is my opponent, so I must make haste,
Doors about to open, the bells gonna sing,
Fans waiting eagerly, talent pacing in the wings,
Take a breath, close your eyes, take a swing,
It’s time for the show, lets rush to the ring,”

The lights switch, now high-lighting the eagerly dancing fans. An attractive female wearing a Legacy t-shirt performs a shuffle dance up to the center stage as the others continue to skip and dance around the ring.

“The crowd is milling in, anticipation rises,
To the place where there’s nonstop action,
Suspense, and surprises,
Bodies fly and friendship dies,
A desperate scramble for the prize,
What untold battles will arise,
What drama will fill my eyes,
On a rush so high, I could reach the sky,
Get in your seats, it’s almost time,
For tonight’s wrestling show!”

The lights fill the entire stage as everyone dances around. Lycana and Marf arrive first, slinking between the dancing staff members. The music slows, taking on a darker feel. Marf links his arm with Lycana’s and begins to sing.

“Tonight is the night,
When I finally bring the fight,
To that bouncy, bright, obnoxious Granger girl,
I will stalk, I will hunt, in the shadows I will prowl,
If you think me foul now,
Just watch me as I slowly wreck her world,
I will tear, I will bite, I will devour her tonight,
In my glee, I’ll watch her bleed,
As the next steps of our profane plan unfurl,”

As they disappear behind the set, Betsy and Legacy make their entrance. Paparazzi flash their cameras from all directions while fans rush the group. Taking the lead, Betsy spreads out her arms, twirling among the chaos.

“Tonight, at long last, the time is finally near,
To face the final demons of this group that I do fear,
For my path has a clear trajectory,
To put an end to Marf and his neverending badness,
As I move on ahead in March Madness,
Marching on to claim my victory,
Can you feel it in the air?
Why my dear, I do declare,
There’s nothing that could possibly stop me.

As Legacy disappears behind the stage, the chorus line joins together and reprises the chorus of the opening number.

“Hurry, hurry, hurry up, don’t be late,
It’s finally show night, and we’ve got a date
Pick up the pace, I’m ready to go,
It’s finally the night of the wrestling show,
Gonna see me hanging around in the front row,
The doors are open, see my excitement grow?
In my seat waiting on bated breath,
For another Wednesday Night with XWF!”

The lights fade as the chorus line finished the number. The curtain falls on them posing as the audience applauds.

Act Two, Scene Six

The curtain rises once again, revealing an elaborately build backstage area. Betsy is sitting alone getting prepared for her battle against Marf. The sound of a door opening causes her to look up. A spill of blonde hair and dark, probing eyes bore into her from the edge of the doorway. This stare down continues before Betsy smiles.

“Come now, friend, don’t be shy. The door is always open here.”

The figure at the door hesitates for another moment or two, before finally deciding to enter. It’s now that we discover it to be Alias. He gazes at her, his face contorting between distrust and curiosity. Betsy keeps the smile glued to her face, though the confusion in her eyes gives her away.

“Eat the Left Hand.”

Her emerald eyes widen a fraction.

“Don’t you ever say anything else?”

His face twists with anger, his entire mood shifting from curious to hostile in moments.

“Devil woman! Vile wench! Evil bitch!”

Betsy holds up her hands in supplication, her expression apologetic.

“Right… Forgot about that for a moment. But you always tell everyone to eat the Left Hand before you run away and hide. Why?”

He contemplates the question for a moment; He suddenly points a long finger in her face, causing her to jump back.

“Marf… He’ll try to eat you alive tonight. And he’ll do it too if you don’t eat him first. Eat Marf. Eat the Left Hand.”

Betsy opens her mouth to reply, but Alias turns on his feet and quickly flees the room. Without thinking, Betsy hurdles after him, getting through the room in time to see him turn left up the hallway. A tune full of desperate excitement begins to play as The Impossible Traveler takes chase.

“Alias! Please come back!
I know that some here think you’re a quack,
Perhaps your mind is a bit out of whack,
But it’s truth and knowledge that they lack,
When you set the ignorant aback,
Alias, I can see!
The trail of the Left Hand’s debris,
This is why I continue my plea,
For you to stay and talk with me,
For my mind is clear and my soul is free,
Alias, I do have hope,
That once we end this silly trope,
Having finally silenced those Left Hand dopes,
Once we’ve ended this dumb reign of Nope,
That you and I can finally be friends.”

The music softens but doesn’t stop. She turns the corner she saw Alias run down, but her mysterious visitor is gone. Sighing, she turns back towards her locker room to get ready. Unfortunately for her, she turns right into Lycana. The Blue Enchantress’s blood-red lips curve into a toothy grin as the women circle one another. Bystanders watch on with avid curiosity as the music swells. Betsy moves forward first and begins to throw down in Lycana’s face.

“My oh my, isn’t this just ducky,
Running into you, how unlucky,
I promised myself this night wouldn’t be at all sucky,
Good thing I happen to be so obnoxiously plucky,
Excuse me, move aside, I’m coming through,
In just a few moments, to the ring I am due,
As it happens, I’m looking for a shade of blue,
That only appears when revenge is due,
I hope you don’t like Marf’s pretty face,
For when I put him in his place,
The scene that unfolds will be a disgrace,
A taste of my revenge his mind will never erase.”

Lycana’s grin turns malevolent as she soaks in Betsy’s venomous words. She soon responds as she pushes Betsy gently aside, and the two begin to mimic a violent fight.

“Sweetest Betsy, why act so sour?
This is only the eleventh hour,
Say what you will, we will never cower,
Like it or not, we hold the true power,
In our match, I had one goal,
And once again, the show I stole,
Now you should be glad I kept you whole,
Before my beloved Marf eats your soul.
Everything playing out to our design,
The world is ours to redefine,
Our darkness will douse out your shine,
Our worlds are forever intertwined,”

The singing turns to angry shrieking as the girls continue to twirl violently around one another. Legacy rushes out from the right side of the stage, while Marf and the remaining members of the Left Hand pour from the left. They dramatically grab at the woman of their alliance and pull them apart, even while they continue to attempt battle. Marf steps in front of Lycana and pushes her offstage, while James does the same to Betsy. The audience cheers loudly as the lights dim and the curtain drops.

Act Two, Scene Seven

The lights flood on and the curtain rises, revealing the ring on center stage. It’s surrounded by the chorus line, sitting in chairs. They are performing a tap dance number without rising from their seats. “Lights in the Sky” by Les Claypool begins to play as Marf slinks out from backstage. The chorus line begins to boo him emphatically, earning a twisted grin from the Mad Dog of the Left Hand. Once he hits the ring, the music switches to the orchestra as he slides his thumb across his throat then points towards the audience.

He soaks in the boos with a blissfully sinister smile as the orchestra fades from the ominous tune. “Blinding Lights” by Fame on Fire begins as the chorus line pops with fervor. Betsy dances her way out, playing it up with the chorus line. Marf slinks into a corner as The Impossible Traveler hits the ring and hops onto each of the corners. She and the chorus line play it up for a few minutes before the music fades into a fast-paced melody. Betsy turns to Marf as he pushes himself out of his corner and they come face to face.

They meet in the middle of the ring and lock up immediately. Marf overpowers the Impossible Traveler quickly and wastes no time capitalizing on the advantage. An intense number follows, showing the two going back and forth violently, both desperate to gain the upper hand. The chorus line ooh’s and aah’s on cue, dancing around excitedly. The match quickly becomes more of a grudge match as the imitation of violence gets worse. Marf regains a firm advantage and within moments, it looks as though Betsy is in dire straits. Just as it looks as though she’s down for the count, Betsy bounces back with a burst of energy. There’s a streak of blood down her left cheek from a cut on her forehead.

She leaps towards Marf and uses her momentum to knock them both over. Leaping onto his chest and crashing down against his ribcage, she lets loose a primal scream as she delivers blow after blow. To her horror, Marf only stares up at her and laughs manically; He doesn’t try to defend or dodge her blows. Unnerved, Betsy slows before stopping completely. Climbing off of Marf, she watches as he rolls over to his side, clutching his chest and still laughing. That’s when she sees it: The unmistakable flash of sapphire.

Before Lycana can make it close to the ring, Legacy is right behind her. She stops dead, grinning as she’s surrounded. Baring her teeth at James, she willingly yields and begins walking back up the ramp.

In the ring, a desperate back and forth has begun once more between Marf and Betsy. Marf moves in to capture Betsy in his finisher, but she manages to dodge and sweeps his legs out from under him. Wasting no time, she locks in the Tuez Les Etoiles. Exhausted and shouting in pain, Marf taps. Betsy jumps to her feet as Legacy pours into the ring; Marf rolls out into the waiting arms of Lycana. Climbing the ropes facing the audience, Betsy sings out a victory tune.

“This was not about luck or chance,
Further into March Madness I advance,
Toppled Marf, like I knew I would,
Was there ever any doubt that I could,
Legacy moves forward as we should,
Our chances of victory are looking good.”

Legacy and the crowd continue to celebrate as the orchestra begins a drawn-out, final melody. As the curtain drops, the cast continues to play it up as the audience begins a standing ovation. The curtain comes up, and the main cast has formed a line and begins to bow together, soaking in the adoration of the crowd. Flowers begin to cover the stage as the curtain drops on the cast for the final time.
