By the time she had stepped out of the shower, the body on the bed was cold. It was one of those moments where the venom had killed instead of changed. A pity since he would have made a fine distraction when she needed to leave the city. He would have died long before the end of the week, but it would have given her enough time to make herself comfortable without having to worry about the council. A sigh left her lips and she stared blankly at the defined male under the sheets. Such a waste but not everyone could survive the venom, even the strongest of humans. Ringing out her hair, Mikah moved toward the balcony and listened to the quiet night. Ever since the pandemic, most cities had an enforced curfew which made hunting a little harder…unless she stayed in the South. New Orleans didn’t restrict as much as some of the cities so the hunting at night with outdoor events was….really easy. Almost too easy if she really thought about it. All those attention, touch and sex starved “alpha” males were pathetically easy.
The soft sounds of her phone vibrating reached her ears, distracting her from the calm night. The message was simple. ‘Don’t be late. You’re booked in a week.’ She smiled and cocked her head, surprised that they had even signed her contract and let her back in the company. There had been many days where her old company followed XWF and her sensitive nose could still smell the blood and other unknown scents that came from the insanity that was XWF and their rosters antics. A few times, she had found a bloodstain that the cleaning crew had missed on the ceiling or could not get out of the wall.
Sighing, Mikah quickly got dressed and packed her bags. Tonight, was her last match with her old company and now, she had to get to Wisconsin to be in a tag team where she only knew one name. MacAlister…He was the only reason Mikah knew to take the match seriously. The other two…including her partner, she had no idea. While she had watched a few matches and shows, she had not paid that much attention to the new talent and she knew that was a mistake but really, she could barely make it through some of the shows. The blood, while she could not smell it, still triggered her thirst.
After years of needing to be a good human…she was thrilled to be back in a place where hiding what she was would not be required. The fact that a few knew her from the past made her a little nervous, they knew a lot about her and could use it against her but…she wasn’t the same and that would also be a mistake. Mikah had grown up, well…matured more like it. Walking to her car, she threw her bag into the passenger seat and headed off; Leaving the bright lights of New Orleans behind her.
Other than stopping for gas…and a quick meal, it didn’t take long for the Vampire to reach the borders of Illinois. There, she kept to the back roads, avoiding the main highways for the fact she didn’t know what ones would be watched with the curfews placed to try and keep the Virus at bay. Not that it would work. The Virus didn’t listen to times or care if you wore a mask. Still, the humans tried their best. Every once in a while, Mikah’s fangs would sink into the flesh of someone infected and could taste it in their blood. It made it bitter, tasting more like the blood had spoiled in the body. It never made her sick but she was a little sluggish for a few days.
Welcome To Wisconsin was printed on a large sign and Mikah smiled, today was the start of a brand new day…and she had a week to build her strength and study up on her…new victims. Win or lose, the match was going to be bloody, violent and tasty.
