Infierno (Hell) Part 1

The megaphone was sounding, the sirens chirping like the most obnoxious bird on the planet, there was blood on the pavement. The street lights were providing and orange hue over the landscape, and the now dark puddle on the ground was increasing more and more as time went on. Blood flowing like water. The broken bottle that was used still sat on the grass just off the sidewalk, and the yellow tape boxed in the scene like a child trying to stay inside the lines with a highlighter. The overgrown weeds and brush, graffiti covered traffic signs, and the cracks in the road made the landscape even more ominous. For a tourist destination, the interior of the island was a war-zone......but the only war raging was between its own citizens. Gang violence, mobsters running the streets, and government officials having to beat back waves of rebels trying to overthrow established order.

Paradise.

Hell.

Really, aren't they the same thing? Nothing is ever the same as it looks, and everything--everyone--has a dark side. Sometimes seeing the light is just seeing the darkness through rose colored glasses.

Hanari stood up against the car, his hands behind his back, his dress shirt ruffled and sleeves ripped. There was blood on his shirt, also, and cuts on his hand from the glass bottle which now lay only about 20 feet away after blowing in the ocean breeze. His eyes squinted in the lights from the cop car. His wallet was taken, his cash stolen, and his jewelry confiscated by the corrupt cops that run roughshod in the Caribbean. Hanari refused to cooperate, so his punishment was to lose his money and anything valuable. In their eyes, he was a criminal. He was the first one they saw when they arrived, and had blood on him. By subjective reasoning, there is no police investigative work in the Dominican, he was the culprit. EMS was working on the man but they didn't have a lot of optimism. They packed him into the paint-chipped ambulence and it sped off down the pothole stricken road. The cops walked over and roughly moved Hanari towards the back seat and shoved him in. They said something about enjoying the weather because it was the last time he would be sniffing Dominican Ocean Air for a while.

Hanari looked out the tinted window. He could see the beach from where he was.

He smiled, despite his face being bloodied from where the cops had tackled him, knowing that he did the right thing. Despite how this all turned out, he did the right thing.

Célula (Cell) Part 1

Sitting on the uncomfortable, almost stone quality, slab, Hanari hadn't said a word since he had arrived. He knew that he wasn't going to get a fair trial unless he paid off the judges (nobody in the Dominican without money got a fair trial), and he refused to do that. Hanari knew he was in the right. The man was a monster, and he got what was coming to him. Hanari had done what he needed to do, what it was his duty to do, and he would take the punishment.

There was an argument down the hall, and he stood up, walking to the bars, grabbing them with his hands, and using a mirror to peek down the hall. There was a fight happening between two of the inmates. It was getting intense. The CO's just watched, laughing.

Hanari used this as a source of entertainment. There wasn't much that entertained him anymore. He had ping-pong, a dim TV, and his magazines. Every once and a while he would read the newspaper articles about the rebellion and how the people who were fighting for their freedom were traitors to the nation and deserved the bullets they got. So much for free speech, and press. He would read articles of the absolute anarchy and chaos taking place on the streets he grew up on and knew there was nothing he could do from in here to change it.

The CO's finally stepped in, beating both of the men worse than they had been beating each other, and dragging them off to the infirmary before they would see a judge to most likely have their sentences extended. They weren't like Hanari, who was awaiting trial, they had been here for some time.

Setting down the mirror, he turned on the faucet in his cell and sighed as the brown water shot through the opening, fludding the off-white porcelain with the wet, almost mud-like, liquid. Grabbing his tooth brush he sighed again. Just then there was a small rapping at his bars, and he turned his head.

¿Estás listo para soplar este puesto de paletas? (You ready to blow this popsicle stand?)

The man was wearing a CO outfit, he had a smile on his face. He pulled a stack of American dollars out of his pocket.

Hanari smiled at the man, then broke his stare to run his toothbrush back under the muddy brown water.

"Donovan Blackwater es jus' another hombre on this roster that es loaded with excuses, mang. Excuses to why nobody take him, or his hermanos, serious. Tha' es why chu are a former champion who has been reduce to anchoring two otha amigos instead of keepin' ya belt. Chu es nothing but a babysitter, mang. Think about it. Ezra es a grown ass man, and he couldn't remember who he was facing, mang? Hanari don't buy it. Whoever the hell he was talkin' bou' in his promos, it no matter. He got in the ring, and he tapped out to Hanari. He got in the ring and he no could adapt, mang. He was no prepared? Psssht. Chu can't tell me that, mang. Hanari think he jus' suck, fam, an' Hanari think you know it too. He not a good image for ya family, and chu need to protect ya name by defending him. Hanari gets it, mang, he does. But chu cannot justify a loss because of him not bein' focus. That make him sound worse! If ya family has a beef with administration, take it up wit them, holmes, but to say he lose because he was no prepared is much worse than sayin' he gave his best an' loss to to the better fighter! Why you do ya brother dirty like that? Makes Hanari think chu es no smart either! Honestly, Hanari think ya whole family may be estupido! That ol' phrase, not as dumb as ya look? Chu look pretty dumb, so chu all may be tha exception!

So chu say you es focused? Thas' good. Hanari wants to see what the Blackwater brothers look like when they es "paying attention", mang. Hanari bets it es not much better. Hanari es proud of ya accomplishment, holding the X-Treme title, but Hanari isn't letting that scare him. No, mang. Chu may have held it for a while, but Hanari es CURRENTLY a champion, an' he plan to hold this belt for a long time. Chu es dertemined to be a deadly force, eh? Where has that been since Hanari been in town? All Hanari has seen ya entire familia do since he been here es lose, chico. Why the sudden drive to be at least decent? Where was dis fire before? Hanari think chu es just postering when that camera in ya face homie. Chu don't jus' turn on ya drive when it es convinient, mang. Chu has to have that killer instinct en dis business, and so far all chu and ya familia have been es talk. Ramble, ramble, ramble. And thas no a slam on chu, es jus' an assesmen' of da facts.

Sí, Hanari has worked hard for everythin' he has. Sí, Hanari has battled jus' to survive. It has made Hanari stronger as a man. Hanari es glad chu kiss ass to get to the top, mang, but es chu really at tha top? Chu claim ya was at the top of the "corporate ladder", but all chu has to show for it es an X-Title run and a string of losses back' by excuses as to why chu should have win. Chu say there was no silver spoon, but what have chu done to deserve dis match, a shot at dis title, except be the next in line? Sure, chu won a number one contender match, Sí, but even a blind squirrel find a nut at one point, no? Chu es not top tier, chu es not even mid tier, chu is jus' next. Hanari es no scard of Donovan, and neva will be, chico!

But Sí, tha fans will walk away pleased. Hanari will retain his title and the one they pay to watch lose will do exactly that. The Blackwater familia es nothin' but a novelty now, mang, a gimmick, the punchline on a not-so-funny joke. Tis sad, Sí. Chu es so delusional and letting a title shot cloud ya vision who who chu really es. Ya familia look like a bunch of homeless guys spend ten dollars at Goodwill, and all the sudden chu think ya es corporate executives. Chu es nothing, and always will be.

Chu has a lot of big compliments to yaself, but the only one complimenting chu is chu, holmes. Hanari never heard anyone else say any of these things about chu. Es ya covering for something? Es ya covering for an insecurity inside? Es ya scared, nervous, making caca in ya "designer" pants at the thought of Hanari pulling ya arm out the socket, mang? It es okay to be hones'. Chu es talkin' like chu es tryina sell yaself to Hanari. Well, Hanari not spending a dime, mang! Hanari not buying! Chu spend more time talkin' about yaself than chu did talking about Hanari! Because chu know there es notin' to say. Hanari has been perfecto since he arrive, and there es nothin' bad to say. The only thing chu try to pin on Hanari es a win over a brotha you threw under tha bus as bein a little slow. Sí. Chu es pathetic, mang. Call Hanari names, say Hanari sucks, say Hanari es overrated and a paper champion and a placeholder, say something besides how great you es, mang. Because chu es not that great. This es hell in a cell, tell tha world how chu es gonna make Hanari bleed, how chu is gonna take Hanari to the limit an' back. No, chu can't do that, cuz chu no believe that. Do ya? No. Chu wan' to pump yaself up so when chu does lose chu have somethin' to fall back on, an image to see in tha mirror, and an excuse to cook up. Chu wasn't ready, Hanari cheated, whatever chu wanna use. Chu is building up defenses for tha impendin' loss.

Chu was a little funny with the face comments, but they es weak. Craters, crevices, blind woman, amputated hands? Clever, Donovan, clever. Chu must own a one sided mirror, cuz chu can clearly see that Hanari es the best looking person on dis entire roster. Try again, mang, cuz chu sound estupido. Hanari es blessed, truly, to be where he is at. Sí, Hanari has worked hard, but could neva have expected ta be put in a title match en his second ever match. Hanari guesses that es something chu and he have in common, a title in ya second eva match. The difference es, Hanari has to prove his worth in tha ring. Jessalyn try giving' Hanari tha' "I was X-Champion!" excuse last week, but Hanari proved that holdin' that belt es a farce because chu can lose it and no actually get beat. If that make sense. Hanari isn't in this to be in a bar fight, he done that enough. Hanari here to prove that inside the ropes, Hanari es the top competitor on Savage an' keepin' this title will show dat. Hanari may be new, but Hanari es flat out better than chu, chico. And when chu come to the ring Saturday Night, Hanari would bring everything chu has because if chu don't, Hanari es going to tear chu limb from limb.

Jus' a little word of advice, chico.
