These 4 Walls


Jason Goldstein handed himself in to the police in the early hours of Friday morning. His nightmare ordeal pushed him into it because now he knows that for his family to be safe he must face justice for all of his crimes.

“This is the best place for me” he thinks to himself as he sits on the edge of his bed in his 12 by 6 foot cell. “If I am in here, my family are safe and honestly, I am safe”. You see not only did Goldstein hand himself in he also led the police straight to the doorstep of his accomplice on the night of the shooting, with Goldstein knowing Andrew Cundy as he does do now he has no doubt that if he was free he would not be alive for much longer.

The one worry he still has though is if Cundy gets away with his part of the crime. The problem is Goldstein was the one who stole the car that Goldstein was driving when he knocked down Joseph Lawrence, just like it was Goldstein that Cundy forced to take the gun and put a bullet in the innocent students head. Cundy had been smart. Using Goldstein obvious shock and fear he had cleverly forced him to do everything All Cundy had done was drive his own van and flip the switch on his own machine to pour the concrete over the body. The police could check for prints but like I said they were his van and machine of course his prints will be on there.

Am I just being paranoid, if Cundy doesn’t get sent down he may seek revenge through my family. I may have left them in even more danger. These are the thoughts that begin to run through his mind.

Goldstein begins to panic at the thought and runs over to his cell door and begins beating on it shouting for the guards. It will be to no avail though. There is no way he is getting out of here. This is his life now, these 4 walls surrounding him and the fear for his families lives for the rest of his. Eventually tired of beating on the door he rocks backwards and collapses onto the bed in his cell. His eyes close and he falls asleep.



The Final Nightmare



With a crash of thunder Goldstein is awoken in his bed. He sits straight upright. Reaching over to his side table he looks for his bedside lamp, the same lamp his wife had laid and read her book under since they had been married. The lamp is not there, in fact the table is not there at all. “What the” The realization soon dawns on him that he is not at home in his nice warm bed, he is in jail. He had been having a nice dream that he was home with his wife and his son Jacob, they were laughing, they were happy. A tear almost immediately forms in the corner of his eye, he may never have that moment he had dreamed about ever again.


There is another flash of lighting which makes Goldstein almost jump out of his skin, he did everything he could to stop himself from screaming. You see the flash of the lighting piercing through the small window in his cell briefly caused the dark corner on the far side of the room to illuminate. Goldstein could have sworn he saw the shadowy figure of Nightmare stood in that very corner. Goldstein’s pacing heart begins to slow as he lies back into his bed. He had been having visions for sometime of the two masked men that terrorized his family; this was just one of them. Pushing it out of his mind he begins to drift off until again there is another crack of thunder and lightning illuminating the room. He knew this time that this was no vision, Nightmare was in the room, and he was walking towards him.


Nightmare: Hello, Mr. Goldstein. Are you glad your Nightmare is over?


Another flash of lightning and Goldstein can see Nightmare stood just a few feet away from his bed.


Goldstein: What do you want from me? Why are you still coming after me?


Nightmare: I am not coming after you Mr. Goldstein. I am here to check up on you nothing more, ensuring that justice is going to be served fully and appropriately. You see so many others that my apprentice and I visit go backwards in their ways. They start as you did finding peace and admitting your mistakes, unfortunately they soon go back to how they had been. These people are punished greatly by me and our higher power.
Then some of them are completely cleansed of all their sins and show me that they can be great, people like my apprentice. You see my apprentice was just a normal guy like you, please do not get me wrong though, he did not do any of the disgusting things that you did, but he had lost his way, he had found drink and resentment as quickly spiraling into becoming something terrible. Luckily we caught this one early and punished him with his nightmare. I could see during his nightmare that there was real regret in his eyes. I could also see a real fire inside of him which would make him my perfect apprentice. So with the permission of the highest powers I translated my mind into his giving him all knowledge and ability that is needed to be me.
The final results are the majority of my missions. That is people like you Mr. Goldstein. I can see that you have been fixed and you will not return to your former ways but there is no fire inside of you, and that is ok. I hope you do not let me down.



Goldstein shakes his head his eyes glazed with fear, he had taken in all his Nightmare had spoke and strangely could remember each and every word perfectly. There is another flash of lightning and he see’s Nightmare is still there once more.


Nightmare: Now I must leave you to complete your recovery, rest assured your family will be safe. We know about Mr. Cundy and his involvement with you and what happened. If he walks away from this he will get his Nightmare given to him by my apprentice and I, he is on the list.
