sur·viv·al
the state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstances.
This week was about survival. Chris had survived last week's Warfare. Sure, he didn't win, but he didn't technically "lose" either. He was still the champion and still the best professional wrestler alive at this time.
His head was bandaged. He had tape around his ribs. He was in a fight with Jenny because of what he said to her before the match. He still had feelings for Nicole. He was going to have to face an undeserving Peter Gilmour on Warfare. He was going up against a young upstart in a one of a kind match where Vinent Lane's test tube creation Tommy Gunn was going to be gunning for him, pun intended. Then he finds out he has to team with that cockroach turd Gabe Reno at Lethal Lottery? What the fuck is that?
He was set up to lose. This match was designed for Chris to lose. The deck is stacked. But hasn't it always been stacked? Hasn't it been stacked since the day he walked into this place? Vinnie hasn't liked hi since Day 1. Both were from Tampa, but Chris had the better hair, the better body, and more skill. Chris was the total package. Vinnie Lane thinks he is top dog just because he sits behind a desk and hired pussy off the internet to do his paperwork. But Chris has thwarted him at nearly every opportunity. He won the Universal Title when you know Vinnie was pulling for Gilmour. He beat Doc when Vinnie made it a casket match at the last second and Vinnie reluctantly had to give him the wildcard. Chris survived at every opportunity. Now he had to survive again, and he would.
Touching the bandage on his head, he winces. Jenny was in the other room on the phone with Snow, giving her ultimatums. At least she had someone else to bitch at for a few. Chris had a headache anyway.
Another night, another hotel. Dallas was an okay city. Kind of brown though, especially this time of year. That is one thing Chris missed about Florida. No matter what time of year it was, it was always green. Texas was an ugly state. Now Chris had to fight in the same square where JFK was shot and killed, AND get shot at himself. Creative, Vin man, very creative.
"You WILL meet us at the parking garage, and you WILL bring our bags into the locker room. Then you will get us coffee, well, me coffee, and make sure Chris has his waters. If you fail us again, I will make sure Vinnie terminates your ass faster than you can say the word Snow. Do you understand me?!"
She was taking her PMS rage out on Snow. Chris put headphones on, he didn't want to listen to anything right now. He was in the process of being screwed over. This match, then Gilmour.....teaming with Reno. He would survive, though, he always did. Vinnie may have won the battle, but he isn't winning the war. Chris Chaos is here to stay.
Hanging the phone up, Jenny came out of the other room in a huff.
"What are you doing?! Laying around?! Shouldn't you be getting ready for a match?! Hell you couldn't even get the job done over two idiots. You are the Universal Champion, Chris. Not some scrub...."
Chris tuned her out. He didn't know what her problem was but she wasn't above getting smacked. The more and more she talked, as the weeks went by, he was beginning to think that him being the champion was more of a status symbol for her than it was him. She seemed to care more than he did. What was wrong with that picture?
He needed a vacation, and needed it badly. He turned on the TV as XWF was running a promo for their match. They showed footage of the Kennedy assination. Chris couldn't help but think that that is what Vinnie envisioned when he made this match mid-blowjob. Someone's head getting blown off.
Chris was going beat Ronnie Cage, then he was going climb to the 6th floor and he was going to throw Tommy Gunn out the window. He said Tommy Gunn was going to get his in due time. Then, he may have a word or two with Vinnie Lane. This was going to be total chaos. Both the match and the aftermath. SOMEBODY was going to get hurt, and going to get hurt very badly.
And Chris would....like he always does.....survive.
He was the fittest, and he was the top of the food chain. He took his headphone's off and went to get up off the bed. Jenny was still going....
"......and you are taking this match so lightly...I mean do you even understand the magnitude of this situation? Do you?!"
She was about to begin a new sentence when he got up and put a finger to her mouth. With his other hand he grabbed her ass, pulling her close.
"Ronnie Cage will rue the day he signed his XWF Contract at Savage. Don't you worry. For now, I need you to focus on our little toy, Snow. Okay? I have enough stress in my life.....just focus on Snow and let the chaos take its course."
She went to say something else but he kissed her hard.....biting her lip and pulling it out a bit from her mouth before he grinned, grabbing his Uni Title off the bed.
She smiled as he walked out, closing the doo behind her. On the door was a poster of a lion eating a gazelle on the plains of Africa. It said, in simple red letters, SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST.
She grinned as she picked the phone back up and dialed Snow's number again.
Ronnie Cage.......the big bad Ronnie Cage. The man who lasted 20 minutes with Doctor D'Ville. The man who rolls with "Bad Attitude" the man who is unulucky enough to be thrown into my line of fire. Fuck Tommy Gunn, he needs to worry about my bullets. Ronnie I know it sounds like beating a dead horse here but the theme for this week is survival. Survival of the fittest. Not only are we in a moving ring, which is a chaotically creative invention by the way, but we have to duck bean bag shots from Vinnie's love child. It's a twisted match idea. But the winner will simply have to survive. That is exactly what I have had to do. That is exactly what I have done. From the last second casket match, to defending my wildcard night in and night out, to beating a very game Gabe Reno to retain my chamber spot, to surviving the chamber. I have had to survive here. Hell even last week on that cruise ship I was dealt a bad hand. A last second change to the match by Lane, making it a no holds barred match in sub zero temperatures. I have had a target on my back here and I have dealt with every single one of them.
Now, you may say that my backstage page has another loss on it. But let me tell you, that is only a formality. I lost simply because I didn't win. But, what did I do? I survived. Reno had to pin the lesser of the two opponents he faced because he KNEW he couldn't beat me. He had to pin Thomas Nixon because Nixon was the weaker link. I took a beating, sure, but I am still standing here ready to compete while Gabe Reno is home licking his wounds. Thomas Nixon is probably in an ER somewhere. I am the ONLY one still here, able to compete just a few short days later, and STILL holding the most coveted prize in the game. You see, Ronnie, it isn't always about wins and losses. This business is a giant chess match, it is about making the right moves. Gabe has to take a week off before facing Trax and Nixon isn't booked on either show. Those two did exactly what I wanted, they played right into my hands. They damn near killed each other while I walked out--the only one, mind you, who WALKED out. I didn't need a stretcher. I didn't need medical attention. Sure, I damn near got hypothermia, I was busted open, I got whipped with a chain. But I am still standing here. What doesn't kill you, Ronnie, makes you stronger.
So you may be happy right now. You may be jubulent. You may be excited. You are facing Chris Chaos who isn't at a full 100 percent. Well, let me tell you, I don't even need to be 50 percent to kick your ass. I don't even need to be 30 percent. A quarter of me is better than all of you. You are the same as Thomas Nixon, in a way. You are a new guy. You haven't earned your stripes yet. You lasted 20 minutes with the good doctor to earn your stable's tag team shot. Well, let me lay out some reality for you. You only "won" because Doctor D'Ville LET you win. You were on your back, looking at the lights, and he had the pin. He wanted some real competition, much like I do, and he wanted Bad Attitude to come into the ring to get their asses whooped by Doctor Satan. He relished in it. You had no shot to win that match without his charity act, and next week on Warfare you will find out just who the REAL doctor is. He is a maniacle, evil son of a bitch. But since this is the time of year where people are still hungover in their giving ways. Since Doc gave you a favor, now I will do him one. I will soften you up for the tag match when I leave you laying for him to pick up the scraps. I will leave you a bloody and beaten mess and show the world why while you are getting your shit pushed in by the best tag team in the business currently, I will be holding this belt up over Peter Gilmour's limp body as Warfare goes off the air. THAT is the difference between me and you. Vinnie booked this match in creative fashion because he even said himself he has nobody but a handful of competitors here can even be on the same card as me. On a normal night, you aren't one of them. If I didn't opt in to this show, you wouldn't be. But I am a fighting champion, I never back down. So bring your A game Ronnie, because I am quite curious. I am hoping you pushed my like Nixon and Reno pushed me because if you don't, this will end up being a long, long night for you.
I am the biggest name here. Let's take a little look at this, shall we. Robbie Bourbon cheated to pin me in December. Nixon and Reno pinned each other. Before then, I haven't been "pinned" in a match since the summer time. Kitt and I, the double pin, take that as you will but facts are facts I haven't been pinned since that hospital room in Cuba in AUGUST. And you really think you have a shot? You really think you stand half a chance?
And you know, it is ironic, actually. This all comes back to survival. I have to survive a moving ring and a bean bag sniper, and you have the survive ME. All you have to do is survive. Do you think you can handle that? It is a simple task, Ronnie. This is your career defining moment and all you have to do is survive. But, let me tell you, I am not a generous as the doctor is. I am not going to LET you survive. You have to do it on your own. So let the world see the real Ronnie Cage. Let the world see that the "Bad Attitude" is really nothing more than a spoiled brat who was told no when asking for his favorite toy. I don't care about the match stipulaton. I don't care how the cards are stacked. I care about one thing, proving to the world that I am the best at what I do. A win over you means nothing, but a win over you with a Universal Title shot on Warfare means everything. If I am Peter Gilmour I am taking notes. I have done nothing here but survive and advance. This week it is no different. I am going to hurt you, Ronnie, and hurt you badly.
Call it a Bad Attitude if you will. I call it life, Ronnie. Survival of the fittest.
I'll call you Ronnie and you can call me Darwin.
Prepare to be Equalized"
