"Sometimes me think, 'What is friend?' and then me say, 'Friend is someone to share last cookie with.'"
- Cookie Monster
Sesame Street
Big Bird is walking down Sesame Street talking with his best pal, Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus. They're discussing the weeks events and the events sure to come.
Big Bird- Boy, Snuffy. What a beautiful day on Sesame Street. I wonder who we'll meet today!
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Gee, Bird, where is everybody today? Hey. What's that?
The Snuffleaupagus points his snuffle to something on the ground. The Big Yellow Bird looks down and picks up a card.
Big Bird- Offices of Doctor Louis D'Ville! A Psychiatrist! It says he's right here on Sesame Street, Snuff!
The Big Yellow Bird shows his friend the card.
Big Bird- His office is at Nine Ninety-Nine Sesame Street. I wonder where that is?
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Well I don't know, Bird. We should try and find it. I like to meet everyone who moves to Sesame Street.
Big Bird- Good idea!
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Hey, Bird.
Big Bird- Yeah, Snuff?
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- What's a psychiatrist?
The two friends begin their search for 999 Sesame Street for the office of the Doctor. They find it eventually and approach the door. The Big Yellow Bird knocks on the door and it slowly creaks open.
Inside, the Doctor sits on a couch with a clipboard in his hand. He is sitting across from Cookie Monster, who lies on the couch talking to the Doctor.
Cookie Monster- ... all day long, me think about cookie. Me wake up, me think of cookie. me go to bed, me think of cookie. Me think of cookie, me eat cookie. Me get diabetes. Me sad....
The Doctor records notes on his clipboard as he evaluates his patient.
Doctor D'Ville- Well, my friend. It seems an addiction has made a turn for the worst. Have you considered eating other foods, other than cookies?
Cookie Monster- There is food that is not cookies?
The Doctor peers up from where he's sitting and sees the Big Yellow Bird and the Snuffleaupagus standing in his office. He stands up in open arms.
Doctor D'Ville- Hello, my friends! Welcome! Come in! Come in! Have a seat, I'll be with you in a moment.
The Doctor lifts his wrist and looks at his watch. He looks at Cookie Monster.
Doctor D'Ville- Mister Monster, perhaps we could continue our session again another day? Our time is about up.
Cookie Monster sits up on the couch, thanks the Doctor, and leaves the office. The Big Yellow Bird and the Snuffleaupagus approach the Doctor. The Big Yellow Bird takes a seat on the couch.
Big Bird- Hello, Doc! I'm Big Bird! Welcome to Sesame Street!
Doctor D'Ville- I see you are! And thank you for the warm welcome. Tell me, who is your furried, snuffled friend here?
Big Bird- This is my best friend in the whole world, Snuffy! Say, "Hi", Snuffy!
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Hi Snuffy!
Big Bird- Snuuuuffy...
The Doctor laughs aloud and sits back down in his chair. The Big Yellow Bird looks at the card he picked up on the street.
Big Bird- Um, Doc? Snuffy was wondering, what's a psychiatrist?
The Doctor sits back in his chair and pulls a lolly-pop from his pocket. He offers his guests each one and they gladly accept.
Doctor D'Ville- Well, my yellow-feathered-friend, a psychiatrist is a doctor that treats different types of mental illness in patients. When someones mind becomes sick, they visit me.
Big Bird- How does someone's mind get sick?
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Yeah. Does it catch cold?
The Doctor smiles at the Snuffleaupagus.
Doctor D'Ville- Not quite, my friend. I tell you what, I'll give you two a free first session. That way you could see first hand how I handle my business, what do you say?
Big Bird- I don't know, Doc. What do we have to do?
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- I don't like shots! We're not getting shots, are we?!
Doctor D'Ville- No, no, my friend. I would just like to hear what you two would have to say, is all. Tell me about yourselves. How long have you been friends?
Big Bird- Wow, I don't know! It seems like forever, doesn't it Snuffy?
The Snuffleaupagus gives the Big Yellow Bird a large nod.
Doctor D'Ville- And you're best friends, I presume?
The two patients nod their heads simultaneously.
Doctor D'Ville- And the streets are filled with friends of yours correct?
The Snuffleaupagus gives the Doctor a big nod. The Big Yellow Bird, however, kicks the dirt a bit. The Snuffleaupagus looks over to his friend and nudges him with his snuffle.
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- What's eating at you, Bird?
The Big Yellow Bird sniffles a little bit before responding.
Big Bird- Well, it's probably nothing, Snuffy...
Doctor D'Ville- Go ahead, Mister Bird. We're all friends here.
Big Bird- Snuff... Do you remember all those years that everyone didn't believe me that you were real? I talked to you all the time and we had some of our best times, me, you, and Radar.
Doctor D'Ville- I'm sorry to interrupt, Mister Bird. Who is Radar?
Big Bird- My teddy-bear and other bestest friend in the whole world.
The Doctor nods and records the information.
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- I remember, Bird. But everyone believe you, now.
The Big Yellow Bird continues to kick at the dirt...
Big Bird- I know, Snuffy. But it makes me sad that it took so long for everyone TO believe me. I had to prove that you weren't just my made-up friend.
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Everybody on Sesame Street was sorry, Bird. And that was a long time ago.
The Big Yellow Bird seems to ignore what his friend just said. The Doctor pays close attention to his response.
Big Bird- I know I'm only six-years old, Snuff. But why didn't everyone believe me?
Doctor D'Ville- Excuse me again, please. Mister Snuffleaupagus, you said this incident happened many years back, correct? Mister Bird, how old were you when this happened?
Big Bird- Six.
Doctor D'Ville- And how old are you now?
Big Bird- Six.
Doctor D'Ville- I see...
The Doctor continues to record data onto a small tablet.
Big Bird- I don't think I like this very much, Doctor... Thinking about all that stuff makes me sad...
The Snuffleaupagus pats the Big Yellow Bird on the back with his snuffle.
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Cheer up, Bird.
Doctor D'Ville- Feeling sad is all part of the healing process, my tall-yellow friend. You were mistreated before and you still have feelings about it. Bringing those bad feelings out in the open is the first step to conquering them. Perhaps bringing these feelings up to the other residents here at Sesame Street will also help resolve your sad feelings?
Big Bird- I suppose I could do that...
Doctor D'Ville- Is there anyone you look up to on Sesame Street? Someone whom you look at as a hero or role-model?
The Big Yellow Bird and the Snuffleaupagus look at each other.
Big Bird- I guess Grover is a super-hero. Super Grover!
Suddenly a small part of the ceiling caves in from above and Super Grover falls from the sky. He stands up, wearing his super attire, brushes himself off and approaches the three. He stands before him with his hands on his hips and chest out, and his cape flapping in the wind.
Super Grover- You called?!
Big Bird- It's Super Grover!
Super Grover- At your service!
The Doctor claps his hands and laughs aloud.
Snuffy the Snuffleaupagus- Do you know any super-heroes, Doc?
The Doctor ponders for a moment.
Doctor D'Ville- You know, I believe I do! My dearest friend, LH Harrison is quite a hero in his own!
Super Grover- He couldn't possible be as heroic as, Super Grover!
Doctor D'Ville- Well, perhaps not, my friend. But he did show very much heroism the other day! I don't know too many people that would dart into a burning building and fight the infernos, not once, but twice, to assist in something that had no concern to him. He smelled trouble, and found it! Now, that's a hero!
Super Grover's helmet falls off his head and hits the floor, along with his jaw.
Doctor D'Ville- I'm sure you've done plenty of heroic feats in your time as well, Mister Grover. Mister Harrison, you've carried yourself as a hero since you joined this organization and you depict a perfect representation for inspiration. I'm proud and it's an honor to be working with you this week! You've made if very easy to look up to you and let me just say, please be careful! I would hate for anything to happen to one of my all time heroes in his line of duty.
The Doctor reaches into his pocket and hands Super Grover a lolly-pop and pats him on the back.
