Several Years Ago...
I had just left home to go explore the world and continue my quest of 'larger than life'. I could easily do it. I spoke my peace to my family and the town I was raised in. I gave them my soul and I was now on my own, which was perfectly fine. My life was just beginning to get good.
It's dark outside. The streets are well lit thanks to the street lights. There's not much traffic on the streets since it's in the late hours of the night. At the corner of Hellwood Street and Edwards Road is biker bar called "Suck Blow Tavern". It wasn't the most creative of names, but it didn't have to be. It wasn't family friendly nor was it open to the public for certain reasons.
Some live band is playing inside that isn't the greatest... thanks to their drunkenness. Then again, it wasn't American Idol or a place an agent would come looking for the next big band to sweep the world. It was entertainment while the real things were happening.
What happened in this bar was no surprise. It was the home of a biker club, or gang as some would refer to it, and considered themselves a type of family. You could even quote many of the members saying things along the lines of this biker family is more important than blood family. They took this whole biker side of their life more important than anything.
This life was perfect for me.
I not only funded the bar to keep it going, but I would buy the boys new bikes every year. My money helped me move up in the ranks, as did my personality. When I first started in the club, I would be questioned and pushed to see where my breaking point would be. I didn't have one. In fact, I did the unthinkable and beat the hell out of the two guys pushing me. Everyone was shocked and proud.
I became the number two guy as time went on. I was the man to see when you had issues among another brother, or if deals were going a bit strange. I was the brains, the money, the power, and the enforcer. I was the jack of all trades in this bunch and I enjoyed every second of it.
It's a damn shame I ended up burning the place down with everyone in it with Elisha not too long ago.
I fucked so many women. I did so much coke. I smoked so much weed. I tripped a lot of acid. That time in my life was adventurous and ruthless. Hell, I caused a lot of pain among my brothers but they never dared question me. I took their girlfriends as my own. I would take a percentage of their profits. My world back then was very different than it is today.
That moment when the Black Circle in the XWF forced my face in cocaine, I wasn't happy. On the other hand, I was taken back down memory lane and remembered how sweet it was.. except the shit they forced up my nose was terrible stuff. They knew nothing of the goods. They could have at least forced the good stuff.
It was when I got the call to go visit my dying father that I became a changed individual. I read the book that contained all the prophecies about my life and who I would become. I heard my dad's last words to me. I saw the change that had gone on in the town.
It appeared people had forgotten the speech I gave that day. My dad lived such a blameless and upright life, that people never downed the James name. They exalted it above any other name in the town.
It was all of it that made me go away by myself deep into the dark woods to think.
I had much to think about. My life back 'home' with the guys... the money... the power... the deals I had going on everywhere. If I stayed at my original home, then I would have to leave all of it and I would probably be hunted down. It was a difficult decision, but I had to do what I had to do. Being alone made me think about everything.. weighing the pros and cons.
I spent an entire day by myself thinking about everything and I came to the best solution: be Eli James IV.
Everyone knew Eli had left once his father passed to spend some time alone. He was not to be bothered and when he returned, they would conduct his dad's funeral. His two sisters were already making plans while Eli was gone so when he came back, they would be prepared.
Eli had finally returned with a strange look on his face. He didn't seem to be mourning the death or sad about what happened. He looked... well... he looked happy. His expression was that young child in a candy store. His eyes were wide and his mouth was stretched ear to ear.
Everyone's attention became sat on Eli as he marched out with a careless walk. No one knew what to think about the way he was going about everything. He left disturbed and came out embracing life. His two sisters tried to talk to him and see what had happened, but he refused to utter a word. He walked by them without acknowledging they were even there.
Eli appeared to be in his own little world at this moment. No one could bring him back to reality. He simply browsed the town without talking and without removing the grin from his face. His two sisters had no idea what to do regarding their father's funeral and wanted to wait on Eli, but pressed on making arrangements.
He had disappeared for a few days. His whereabouts were unknown. His sisters talked among each other to make a decision if they should wait on Eli to do the funeral, or just go ahead.
Four days following Eli's disappearance, the decision was made to go ahead with the funeral.
A few small words were spoken, followed by a prayer...
Then a few townsmen began playing "Amazing Grace" with bagpipes and a piano.. during the song... Eli was walking towards the podium.. still with that smile and care free walk he had been doing since his time alone in the woods.
Eli gets on the stage behind the podium and interrupts the music...
"You cannot have death without life.
In order to die, you must live.. my daddy lived a nice life and took his final breath.. and said goodbye to this world and hello to the next.
The next breath you take isn't guaranteed, is it? No man knows the time of day nor the hour in which you will be gone. No man knows how you'll leave this world. There is only one that knows and he holds time in his hand. There is one and he does not share glory. He is the Creator.. The Almighty.
I went out there by myself seeking answers, and I got them. I heard his voice.
If you want to live, then you must follow me. Follow me! For if you don't, then death will come to you sooner than you think."
Eli jumped off stage and as he walked away.. he looked at everyone whispering the words "come on, now.. follow me". Confusion was everywhere. A few people actually got up and started to follow him. His two sisters were so confused and hurt that he had taken all the attention off the memory of their father, they ran away.
Everyone who was following Eli did so to the outside of the building. Eli turned around to see everyone else sitting and just watching him.
"You made your decision. Almighty is not happy. If you do not follow life, then it must mean you await death. Goodbye."
Eli slammed both doors to the church shut. He looked at those who followed him..
"Get your possessions. Grab your families and friends.. all who want to join me. I will take you to the Promise Land today."
They all left to do as Eli had commanded. Once everyone was away getting their things, Eli turned and placed a strong bar to hold the doors shut. Eli took a lighter from his pocket and lit it up.. and dropped it by the door.. the whole church started to burn.
"Heh. Strange. Smells like someone poured gasoline all over the building... uh oh."
