A soft scream followed by soft panting filled the dark room as golden eyes stared out into the suffocating darkness. She sat alone in the middle of a large, California king sized bed with satin sheets pulled up and covering her bare chest. The Demigod, daughter to Hades and Artemis kept having the same nightmare. No, it wasn’t a nightmare, it was a repeating memory; the one time in her life where she had failed as a mother and a wife. It would forever haunt the young woman until the day she left this world and joined her parents and even then, the young mother knew she would never forget that day.
Her pale fingers pushed through her sleep tossed golden hair before placing her bare feet on the plush black carpet. Gripping the black satin sheet, she stood and wrapped it around herself lightly before walking over to the large French doors she had left open to allow the warm spring breeze into the room. A large black wolf with piercing emerald eyes lifted his head to watch his Mistress’s slow walk. The wolf was a gift from Mackenzie, who felt bad that his mother was now alone, even though he knew that his stepfather was slowly trying to come back into her life.
Golden eyes locked onto the picture sitting on the dresser and she gently picked it up. The figures in the picture moved; the two adults laughing as two young children played in the yard. Micah smiled softly as she watched the father chase the little boy around the yard. A picture of a more recent, happier past but it was just that, something forever living in the past. Why did humans place so much in memories? Some were happy, yes but others were quite painful.
Her bare feet finally touched the soft wood of the balcony and she held the thin sheet tighter to her chest. The cool breeze kissed her exposed, bare flesh and creating goose bumps in their wake. It didn’t seem to faze her as she looked up at the moon. It’s silvery gaze reflected against her soft, pale skin and giving it an ethereal glow. Not that sparkle Zak’s skin had when he stood under the moonlight. Some people mistook the sparkle for glitter but if they honestly looked at his skin or ran a gentle hand along his bare flesh, they would think that he had been lying out in ice and they would feel the sharp edges of the ice fragments.
The wolf walked over and sat next to his Mistress, his head raised to watch his Mistress with bored eyes. Her hand dropped and she lightly started scratching behind his ear, her eyes never leaving the moon. There were so many people already showing up for the battle royal that she knew she wouldn’t last long but it was still time in the ring. Something she needed and desperately craved. She had no reason to stay at home any longer and she was beyond bored. She finally looked away from the moon and looked down at the wolf, a soft smile on her lips.
Her mind started drifting to what had transpired in the few months; Alexandra becoming a vampire, Zak losing his mind and battling an ancient dieses that was past from Father to Eldest son then waking up herself in a very comfortable bed with few memories and a pulse. Mandii had swallowed her pride and asked for her help in finding Jason when he became lost in his transition to becoming a Siren’s Guardian. They found out that she was more than just an immortal.
Micah raised her hand, palm up as she summoned a small flame, it flicked in the soft breeze as it slowly grew to cover her entire palm. The wolf whimpered and nudged her bare elbow, his emerald eyes locked on the flame. She loved having control over the Fire element and everything it touched. While Zak’s ability was preferred among those who wanted to torture, he had more control over his emotions. He was less likely to freeze someone’s heart unless he was set off emotionally. Micah, on the other hand, her powers reacted to any sort of emotional or hormonal spike. She damn near burnt down the locker room at the last place after she attacked Nazi and Wyatt.
“Perhaps joining the battle royal is a bad idea.”
The wolf whined and snorted his opinion, making Micah laugh softly. She needed to pick a name for the beautiful creature. She looked back at her hand and extinguished the flame, staring at her unmarked hand. The wind picked up slightly, forcing Micah to hold the sheet a little tighter to her bare body. It blew the sheet just enough that it exposed her once covered leg, allowing the moon to gaze down in silent approval.
The city of Portland was relatively quiet in this part of town and she could see for miles. The large city mixed perfectly with the surrounding woodland. She felt safe, at home in places like this wonderful city; so connected with the nature, allowing the Earth to decorate the city as it sees fit. A tired sigh escaped Micah’s lips as she looked back up at the moon, which was starting to go down. Dawn was soon approaching and she knew she needed some sleep before the big match.
“Come now; let us turn back in for a few more hours of sleep.”
The wolf at her hip huffed softly and gently padded back to the bed, sending his Mistress a tired look. Micah couldn’t help but laugh softly at how human this animal acted as she walked back to the bed for a few more hours of restless sleep.
