“I didn’t think vampires would bleed so much…”
Zak stared down at the man he used to consider his father, his blood speckled head cocked slightly as he stared at the mangled form of Marcus. The man was a fool, thinking he would be safe from his Childe’s wrath if he told Zak what happened to Micah. Regardless of how mentally gone he was, regardless of how many personalities he had…Micah was still his baby sister and there was nothing on this Earth that would keep him from making sure the last of his bloodline remained alive.
Zak’s eyes glazed over as four unknown faces suddenly popped up in his mind’s eye. A pretty little blonde girl, a blue-haired girl, an elderly man and his wife…What were they to Zak? He had never met them, passed them on the street or had even known they existed. The sound of screeching tires and metal crashing into metal snapped the Demigod from his trace, forcing him to turn in the direction of the roof ledge. He walked over slowly and looked down, grimacing at the wreckage below him. There was a mess of blonde hair, matted with blood hanging out from the backseat driver side window. The blue-haired teen was lying on the hood of the car, her unblinking eyes staring up at the night sky, dead to the world. The elderly couple was still in the car but blood was coating the shattered glass the reflected in the neon lit sidewalk.
“Dead…all dead…Pity since that blue haired teen looked rather attractive.”
Zak sighed and focused on the faces of the elderly couple, trying to picture how they looked in the car; holding hands with a look of peace on one and a look of shock and fear on the other. Maybe the grandfather died of a heart attack and lost control of the car. Grandma died in the sudden shock of the car smashing into the light post, sending the blue-haired teen smashing into the car. That poor little girl, just out to dinner with her grandparents, having a peaceful night….which has turned into a nightmare for her parents. He almost felt bad but he realized that there would have been nothing that could have stopped the Fate’s from changing the hands of four innocent lives.
Sighing, Zak looked back at Marcus, watching the mortally wounded vampire struggle to roll over onto his back. Alexandra would be so….destroyed. Maybe even seek revenge but…it would be pointless now. Zak finally took his revenge on the man who destroyed his mortal life, the man who finally caused the marriage to end. Now, he just had to find his sister, bring her to the show and he would be able to protect her. Never would he allow another pathetic excuse of a man tempt to pull his sister from his side. If what Marcus said was true, then Circenn would have placed Micah’s soul in the body of a virgin and cleared a majority of her memories.
Zak groaned as he walked past Marcus, kicking him onto his back before moving towards the ledge just above the alley. He turned to look once more at the vampire before letting himself fall off the ledge, vanishing in a swirl of black smoke and ice.
It was amazing just how quite Central Park was, even surrounded by the busy New York streets. Zak brushed off the invisible dirt on his arms and he started walking towards the darkest part of the park, his nose twitching slightly each time he stopped to track his sister’s scent. It didn’t take long before he found himself staring up at a tall apartment building, sniffing softly to cement that she was in the building. His eyes scanned the listing on the outside of the building, stopping when he saw, ‘M.Jacobs’ on one of the tabs. He didn’t bother hitting the buzzer as someone pushed open the door from the inside. They stared at each other for a minute before he grabbed the door with a gentle smile, stepping aside as the woman walked past.
He sniffed again and smirked, walking inside as he tried to imagine what his sister looked like. Maybe she had black hair, maybe she was taller. His eyes danced along the apartment numbers, not paying attention to the new scents mixing with his sister’s scent. Alexandra stood in the hall, waiting for a few moments, she could sense her brother inside the room, and she detected his scent the moment she walked in. Now the air became electrified.
Zak spotted brown hair and stopped; his nose twitching before he started laughing, "Pretty little lamb is so far from home."
Alexandra turned around laughing softly. "Look who's speaking."
Zak smirked and stepped closer, "I should have taken revenge on you instead of him."
"If you want your revenge Zak, come for it." She growled lowly in her chest, "I did it, because Circenn was going to make Marcus do it."
Zak laughed, "Circenn ordered you. Marcus tried taking your place since you are a newborn. Foolish, hungry and a threat."
He shoved past and took a sniff, realizing he was 4 doors from the apartment.
Alexandra grabbed him by the back of his shirt and slammed him against the wall, spinning him around, snapping at his neck, "You are trying my patience Zak. And if you barge into that room right now, you'll be stopped by my brother."
His hand tangled in her hair, forcing her to throw her head back. His knife pressed into the small gap between her collarbones.
"You think you could win against me?"
A black chain formed around her neck, small ice crystals ripping into her flesh.
"Marcus told you what I am. You should be careful."
His eyes snapped over towards the door when he heard the lock click.
Alexandra held her hand up, bluish white smoke started to form from them. She pushed against him with the smoke, as it began to grow colder in the hall.
"Try remembering what happened at Shove It."
She growled loudly, causing Zak to start laughing.
"I have ice in my heart already."
He stopped the spells and pushed her away when he saw golden hair poke out into the hall.
"Zak, this conversation isn't over yet"
"It is for now."
Zak looked over at the girl and sniffed, his eyes widening in mild shock, "Micah?!"
Alexandra turns around and starts to walk down the hall when a familiar voice hits her ears. "Micah, who's at the door?"
Micah stared at her brother before looking back at the door, where Damien had just stuck his head out.
"Uhm...it's....Zak...and Ally."
Micah and Ally barely had time to react before Zak had his hands wrapped around Damien’s throat, lifting the man up and slamming the man into the wall. His eyes were black and he snarled, his hand tightening against Damien’s throat.
“ZAK!”
Micah’s hands slammed against Zak’s arm, trying to pull his hands away from Damien’s throat. Zak’s eyes never left Damien’s face as Damien gripped Zak’s wrist. Alexandra snarled and she moved to attack Zak but with Micah keeping her body between the Demigod and the Vampire, it made it hard for Alexandra to get her brother out of his current situation.
“Damn it, Zak! Guess everything NAZI said was true!”
The fire in the fireplace cracked loudly as Zak’s eyes widened, taken by surprised at Micah’s defiance.
“What did you say?”
“You are nothing but a coward, jumping to conclusions and attacking only when people are not expecting it! You’ve never been able to back it up in the ring!”
Zak dropped Damien and snarled, turning towards his sister, who backed away after seeing the rage in his eyes. His hand shot out and he gripped her throat, pulling her towards him violently.
“We’re leaving.”
The sound of metal smashing against the brickwall muffled the screams of someone getting thrown into the various trash cans.
“Get up!”
Zak’s voice filled the alley as he reached down, pulling Micah up by her hair. Blood dripped down her forehead and she whimpered, her hands grabbing at his wrist. She wasn’t too surprised that Zak was reacting like this but…what did surprise her was the fact he wasn’t doing this in the ring in the arena.
She screamed as Zak slammed her head into the wall, his hand wrapped tightly around her throat.
“Never speak to me like that again.”
Zak pressed against her, turning her head violently to the side, his head cocked slightly before he dragged his tongue along her dirty throat. He could smell her innocent blood pulsing under her skin, which caused Zak to snarl softly. It took everything he had to keep himself from ripping into her throat and tasting just how innocent she really was.
“You will stay by my side at this match. If I tell you to jump in and attack NAZI, then you do it.”
Micah whimpered and struggled against her brother’s grip, forcing another snarl from his lips. He threw her into the wall and slowly walked back over to her.
“Attack him. Bust his head open and maybe I’ll over look your foolish mistake.”
Zak stared down at his sister before kicking her ribs and walking back inside the arena.
