Chapter Seven
Screaming out into the night sky, Anthony struggled in an attempt to break free of the skeleton's grasp, trying to rip its fingers from his flesh. Wide eyed, Mani rushes over, and tries doing the exact same thing to groans of pain from the victim.
"Do you gotta be so rough?!" Anthony winces in pain as Mani yanks one of the bony fingers from his friend's arm.
"Are you really asking this question?" Another finger removed, another wince in pain.
"Yeah, it fuckin' hurts when you do that!" Anthony proclaims, screaming out as another finger is removed, leaving a trail of red across his epidermis. Crimson droplets formed on the sides of the line, dripping downward from his arm and hitting the ground with the familiar pitterpatter of the storm earlier on in the night.
Now, the night sky was clear, its starless, moonless sky plunging the world headfirst into darkness.
With gnashing teeth, the thing turns its eyeless head towards Mani, who throws a punch at the beast, knocking it off its feet. Anthony leaps into action, stomping on the spinal column until the only sound that can be heard for miles is the crack of snapping vertebrae.
"Yeah! Take that, bitch!" He screams in celebratory jubilation, bringing his leg up once more to stomp on the writhing creature's head, shattering the bones into bits and dust with ease. Shaking his head in apathy mixed with a dash of contempt, Mani steps over the lifeless corpse, hitting his friend on the shoulder and pointing across the alleyway to a door that appeared almost identical to the one they had just exited through.
With a sigh, Mani presses on the door and it swings open with a creak, handle smashing against the wall. Trudging over the threshold, he's interrupted by Anthony's voice behind him.
"Dude! I found a hole in this gate!" He yells, ecstatic and pointing at the gap.
"And this does...?"
"Fuck you, man! I was just trying to help!"
"Look, we have a way right here," Mani starts, moving his arm so it aimed inside the building that he was already half in. "Do you really want to risk it?"
"Dude, we have no idea what's in there, either."
Mani shook his head, immediately dispelling that very true remark. No, he told himself, this has to be the way. Without another word, or sound, he drags his other foot into the building, looking inside for the first time.
A dim light bathed the room. Good, he thought. Finally, somewhere that isn't pitch fucking black. Taking a few more steps into the brightened building, he notices the source of the light.
It was a flashlight, left laying haphazardly in the middle of the room, still powered on. Wait a second, something about this room feels, familiar.
Growling, the gnashing of teeth against equally sharp and disgusting counterparts. A shriek pierced the air in the room, the door swinging shut behind the man. Looking back, he sees a surprising sight.
He was alone again.
No, not entirely.
He was stuck in this room, with the same monsters he and Anthony had escaped from, everything left behind in the same places they were in when they left the first time.
This, this is impossible. This is the same fucking room.
The only words that could exit his mouth, as he turned to face the famished beasts:
"Not again, please. Not again!"
Creatures?
Sic 'im.
