Chapter Two: The Awakening

ADAM BARKER- “Chris?” Adam calls for Chris outside of the Cathedral expecting to hear his voice or for him to pop out of the shrubbery lining either side of the side walk at any moment. ”I’m serious man, stop fucking around.” Adam starts to reach for the inner pocket of his sport coat where he retrieves his cell phone as he carefully walks forward towards the street seemingly expecting Chris to leap out from the side of the building and as Adam reaches the end of the building and there’s no scare tactic which only confuses the situation. Adam immediately dials a number placing the phone to his ear. ”I’d like to report an emergency… I don’t really know how to say this without sounding crazy, but uh, my client just disappeared in front of my very eyes.” Adam starts shaking his head from side to side lightly as he repeats himself. ”I don’t think you understand what I just said, one minute he was here the next minute he was gone!” Maybe it’s starting to sink through with the emergency operator… or maybe she thinks he’s crazy, who knows. ”The Cathedral Church of Saint Joseph’s, thank you.

Meanwhile.

“WHAT IS THIS FUCKERY!” It’s pitch black as our scene opens with the voice of Chris Page. ”Where am I?” It’s a very logical question for me to ask myself considering the recent chain of events. One minute I’m leaving a Cathedral and the next minute I’m pulled into a portal by a figment of my imagination, or is it? ”Jokes over!” Echoing through the distance is what sounds like a large breaker being flipped which emits a single light dangling in the darkness several feet above Chris’s head, but outside of that small amount of light darkness is all that surrounds us. Chris untucks his shirt from his slacks as he looks in either direction with his fists up attempting to prepare for anything that may come his way. ”Adam?” Chris calls out for Adam with only the sounds of his voice echoing off in the distance. Chris slowly lowers his fists before turning another direction as he yells out. ”ADAM!”

”He can’t hear you.” A very familiar voice rings out all around Chris taking him by surprise causing him to flinch. ”Nobody is going to hear you.” The echoing around Chris has him turning in slow circles.

”We the fuck am I? Where’s Adam?” The questions garner laughter from this unseen force that trembles the ground beneath Chris’s feet.

”You’re not in any position to ask questions, but you will receive all the answers you seek in due time… but first… we’re going to play a little game.” Chris spouts off without so much as thinking about it.

”If it’s rock, paper, scissors you’re going to lose.” Personally I don’t know what the fuck to think about the current situation that I’ve managed to find myself in. One minute I’m outside a Cathedral the next minute I’m surrounded by darkness after being pulled through a fucking hole in the ground! Don’t you think I’ve got enough on my plate with a match as important as Warfare looming on the horizons than to be playing games with a faceless voice at the moment in time?

”This isn’t a game that I am going to lose.

Meanwhile…

”Officer I’m telling you the truth.” Adam Barker stands just outside of the Cathedral where he’s now joined by two priests and three Welch Police Officers. Adam takes a white handkerchief from his pocket and wipes the sweat from his brow as he appears to be confused and disheveled over what has taken place. ”One minute he was here and the next minute he was gone.” Adam states as one of the Police Officer is taking notes while the other two stand just about where the portal opened.

POLICE OFFICER- “Let me make sure I understand you correctly.” The lead officer states as he proceeds to run through Adam’s chain of events. ”You and Chris showed up here to speak to a priest. When you came out you claim that Chris was acting strange, specifically he was claiming the ground was shaking under his feet and then suddenly he’s gone. Does that sound about right?”

”I know it sounds crazy but it is the truth.” One of the priest steps forward.

”The gentleman spoke to me in the confessional.” The lead officer shifts his body towards the priest, an elder man with thin white hair and a long wrinkled face. He’s dressed in his garb as is his second who still stands in the background.

”And what did he have to say?”

”You know I can’t disclose information discussed in a confessional unless the law has been broken; and in this instance no such crimes have been committed.” The priest clears his throat before he states. ”He didn’t seem terribly troubled.”

”Is there anything that could tell us that might help us out here? Let’s face it we don’t have a lot of information to go on here, and what’s to say he didn’t just leave?” Adam quickly chimes in.

”Because he isn’t even answering his phone. He ALWAYS answers his phone!” Adam exclaims. ”He’s a multi-million dollar investment who just wouldn’t run away knowing what he has on the horizon. I’m telling you the truth!” As Adam is explaining we see the second officer who isn’t taking the notes kneel down at the sidewalk investigating the surrounding area. He glances back up at the lead officer shaking his head from left to right as he states.

”There’s nothing disturbed here.” The lead officer directs his attention towards Adam who is patting his brow again as he asks.

”You’re not on any medication or anything are you?” Adam quickly lashes out at the lead officer at his insult.

”Listen here you little turd, believe what I have to say or don’t but one thing you will not do is stand here and insult me. Do something about it!” The lead officer simply shakes his head as he states.

”We got all we need here.” The lead officer reaches into his upper right pocket of his uniform pulling out a card that he reaches out towards Adam as he states. ”If you can think of anything helpful please give me a call.” Adam snatches the card from his hand as he spouts out.

”Thanks for nothing.” Adam looks at the name of the card before quickly shifting his attention towards the officer. ”Matt.” The officers leave the scene and leave Adam with the two priests. The priest that spoke to the officers rests the palm of his right hand on Adam’s shoulder before whispering into the ear of Adam.

”We need to talk.” Both Adam and the priest turn and start to walk back towards the entrance of the Cathedal…

… meanwhile.

”Alright cut the shit…” Frustration begins to set in as I start to feel myself get angry with the situation. Closing my eyes I start to take deep breaths before continuing with. ”Tell me what the fuck is going.”

”I’m not sure you’d believe me if I told you… but what I will tell you… I’m PISSED!” Chris tries to take a step out from under the dim light only to find that his feet do not move and it’s as if they are weighted down catching Chris by surprise and nearly causing him to fall forward on his face.

”SHOW YOURSELF!” The scream from Chris echoes all around him as it draws the response.

”That’s cute.” Chris looks off into the darkness for anything to give him any indication as to what’s going on. ”What’s a matter? Can’t move? When will you open your eyes and see what’s REALLY going on? I’ll show myself, but I want to show you this first.”

The camera takes a full back shot of CHRIS as the stream flows and CHRIS pisses all over the writings of Anton LeVey. CHRIS shifts his aim so that each piece released book gets a little of the golden shower and once he finishes we see CHRIS from behind as he puts his piece back inside his pants before zipping them back up.

”Look familiar?”

”I had to piss, big deal.” Probably not the best time for sarcasm when you don’t really know the severity of your situation, this could be some sick game you’d see from the Saw franchise.

”I thought you might say that. I often love coming across people like you, people that you they’ve got it all figured out. It’s the look in their eyes they have when the true reality smacks them in the face.” We can hear what sounds like footsteps echoing around Chris as he tries to move his feet once again and again it’s like he’s frozen in place from the knee caps down. “You pissed on the wrong material and now you’re going to pay, dearly.”

… meanwhile.

”What’s going on?” The priests have ushered Adam back into the Cathedral where they sit him down on one of the back pews. The priest sit with Adam.

”Your friend… he said something to me in confessional that might explain what is going on.” Adam quickly responds.

”What was it?” Adam in genuinely vested into hearing from the Priest as the priest continues.

”He’s a nonbeliever, correct?”

”If you’re asking if he’s religious the answer is no. He’s not a fan of God or Satan…” Adam looks at the priest who shakes his head in shame before asking.

”Did you know he urinated on the Satanic Bible and other materials based off satanic worship?” Adam is shocked at what he’s just heard being asked to him.

”What?!” Adam questions the priest. ”Why the hell would he do that? No I didn’t know! That’s crazy by any standards. It’s like using pages of the bible as toilet paper!”

”Your friend told me he did do just that.” There’s a deep sigh from Adam. ”Being a nonbeliever actually makes more open for something like this to happen.” Adam starts to get irritated with the run around before he raises his voice.

”WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!”

… meanwhile.

”I’m right here! Show yourself! The footsteps start to get louder as they are getting closer before suddenly coming to a stop. Chris looks around as best as he can before he’s spun around staring directly into the eyes of. ”I’m going to kill you!!” Chris swings but his feet are still planted and not able to move.

”No you’re not.” Chris swings again but whatever he’s swinging at is just out of reach. ”Stop it you’re embarrassing yourself.” Chris finally comes to terms that he’s not going to land a blow.

”So… Robert… What’s all this about?!” My eyes have got to be playing tricks on me as I am looking into the eyes of former XWF Universal Champion ROBERT MAIN. The history between Robert and Chris is well chronicled throughout 2019 as they set the Universal Title scene on fire to which Chris never got his arm raised in victory. Defeats like those will always hurt and will always harbor some sort of feeling or emotion. These two haven’t seen each other since Relentless following Robert’s choke job to Soldier.

”You think I’m Robert? That’s cute.” Robert’s pupils suddenly go blood red before shifting back to their natural color. If Chris could jump backwards he would but his feet are still weighed down. ”No I’m not Robert… I’m one of the ones you don’t believe in, I’m the one that spreads hate amongst the world, I am the lord of darkness… I am Satan.” Chris shakes his head out of confusion.

”This isn’t possible.” Chris mutters under his breath. ”There’s a logical explanation… what was in that weed?”

”The explanation is staring you in the face. Everyone has a different perception of who Satan is, and when it comes to you… I’m your Satan. I’m the one man in this profession that you COULDN’T beat. It eats you up each and every day, so now you’re going to be here with me for eternity.”

”I can’t be here for eternity!” There’s no way in hell I’m going to allow Satan to hold me hostage and keep me from attaining my destiny to crush Soldier in front of the world and strip him of that Universal Title like a hooker shedding clothes to make a quick fifty bucks; hey Shane, how’s it going? ”That’s just cruel and unusual punishment!” Or an Unknown Soldier promo.

”You don’t look like you’re in a position to negotiate.”

… meanwhile.

”I think Satan came to collect.” The Priest is sternly serious as he continues. ”This isn’t a joke, this is serious business we’re talking about here. He played with a force he had no business playing with. Adam looks astonished by what he’s hearing. He soaks it in for a second before speaking on it.

”Wait.. how is that possible? I was with him the entire time.” Adam tries to wrap his mind around what he’s being told but he still can’t get over it. ”There wasn’t a second that he wasn’t in my eye sight. We literally just walked out the door!”

”How can you be so sure? Dark forces work in mysterious ways.” The wise priest looks directly into the eyes of Adam Barker as he then states. ”If he has been taken by the dark lord as I suspect than this got a little more complicated.”

”Let’s say for argument sake that you’re right and he was taken by Satan, how can Satan take someone alive? I thought you had to be dead.”

”That’s one of the biggest misconceptions it happens all the time just like I think it’s happened with your friend.” Adam’s heart drops in his chest.

”How do we get him back?” It’s the obvious question to ask and perhaps the most complicated to answer.

”We can’t.” Adam lashes out at the Priest.

”WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!!” The Priest jump as Adam calms himself down. ”I’m sorry about that…”

”The harsh truth is there isn’t anything that we can do… but if this is the case there’s something that HE can do.” Adam intently listens as the priest continues. ”He was taken alive which means he will be presented the opportunity to fight he way back.”

”What do you mean fight his way back?”

… meanwhile.

”There’s got to be something I can do!! Chris exclaims towards Robert which brings a chuckle from Main. ”What’s so fucking funny?!?!

”You’re what’s so fucking funny because you still don’t get it. You still don’t understand what’s going on so let me dumb this down for you… I’ve collected your soul, you belong to me.” For the first time in my life I feel completely and totally helpless to what’s going on around me. I try to move but I can’t feel my feet and I’m trying to wrap my mind around all of this.

”How could you collect my soul? I haven’t died, have I?” Fuck I don’t even know at this point because the last place I ever imagined I’d be is in hell with Robert Main looking me in the face. I will not admit defeat regardless of any circumstance. I’m going to figure a way out of this like I figure a way out of everything else. ”My soul is still my soul and I’ll fight you for it.” Robert burst out into laughter as he starts to pace back and forth in front of Chris just outside of his reach.

”Do we really need to do this again? We all know how it’s going to end.” Cocky little fucker. ”You can give me your soul and devote your life to spreading my word, and I’ll let you go right here and right now… but something tells me that you’re not going to do that.” Chris lashes out at Robert.

”You’re goddamn right I’m not going to do that! I’m not giving you shit! Matter of fact if I could whip my dick out I’d piss on you in person!” I always thought Satan was into golden showers. ”I didn’t think you where this much of a pussy prepared to just be content with keeping me here; I mean if I’m destined to fail it sounds like it would be a win/win situation for you.” Right now it’s time to fight for survival in every sense of the word and my back is completely against the wall much like it’s been throughout my life, it’s an interesting position to adapt to and might be the only thing I have going for me if I try to throw down with Satan. ”I’ll walk through my own personal hell if it means that I’ll get ONE shot at ascending back to Earth.” Robert stops pacing back and forth and stands directly in front of Chris where he rests his hands behind his back.

”And what if I refuse? It’s not like you could stop me.”

”You’re not going to refuse.” Chris casually states with a smirk on his face. ”You’re a lot like me, you thrive on the fact knowing you conquered something.” I have no fucking clue what I’ve just opened the doors too but if it gives me the opportunity to go down swinging I’ll jump all over it and wide the fucking wave in. ”I will walk through whatever obstacles you put in front of me, and then I’m going to come for you.”

”Certainly are a confident one, aren’t you?” Robert scoffs at Chris before snapping his fingers. ”But you’re right, I wouldn’t refuse the win/win situation that you’ve proposed, and if you make it through the battles of your own personal hell then I will release you back to Earth.”

”What you got mind big man?” There’s no quivering in the voice of Chris Page as he stares directly into the eyes of Robert Main.

”There’s going to be several stages of your own personal hell that you’re going to have to try and conquer, just one slip, just one mishap and your soul will belong to me for eternity.”

”I probably shouldn’t ask you to put it in writing, should I?” Robert rolls his eyes before stating.

”When are you ever going to realize you’re not funny.”

”Whenever you realize that I’m not trying to be.” Fuck bro let’s rock and roll! Let’s do this dance and let’s roll the dice and see how they land. I’m a man with nothing to lose and everything to gain, exactly as I like it. There’s no force of nature nor act of God… or Satan… that can stop me from putting my best foot forward and taking a swing for the fences against a supernatural power like the lord of fucking darkness himself. Game-Fucking-On. ”Are we going to do this or what bro?” Robert smirks at Chris before he nods his head in approval.

”We’re going to do this alright… and I already know what your first stage of hell is going to be.”

”I’m ready homie!” All I got to have is the chance and now that you’ve given it to me I’m going to live to make you regret it. The fuckery is about to end and the pain and suffering is about to begin. I’m going to navigate my way through my personal hell stage by stage because nobody expects me to and survive. ”Bring me your worse!”

”That’d be entirely to easy and I want to savor every moment of your failure.”

”Keep talking that shit Bob and we’ll see how much shit you’re talking when I prove you wrong.” Robert simply grins at Chris like a Cheshire cat. ”What the fuck is so funny?!?!

”Your first stage of hell has arrived.” Chris’s legs and feet are still weighed down as he looks around the darkness for any sign of anything really when suddenly the weights to his feet are released where he lunges at Robert who dissipates in the process.

”I’ll be watching.” Chris regains all the movement in his legs and feet as he’s surrounded by darkness when suddenly a voice echoes out.
