"How long has it been?"
We open once again on Cain, who sits in a booth at a quiet diner. He is surrounded by corpses, women...children. Old, young, fat, skinny. The murderer has been hard at work. But...there is someone new there. Someone unfamiliar to anyone who has followed Cain's work.
"You've been gone a while, Lord. Not a day has gone by where someone hasn't asked about you, inquiring of your location. Many thought you were dead, but I knew better..."
The sweet, soft voice came from a well endowed young lady, Asian by descent. Her eyes with almond shaped, her soft skin the color of sweet mocha. Obviously, the woman was mixed but Cain seemed not to mind. Her form fitting black dress clung to her cleavage, strands of raven black hair dropping from a tight bun on her head. Her eyes were strange, however...though they maintained the general shape, they were...vacant.
She also seemed unphased by the fact that Cain was sitting before her, eating pieces of a freshly removed heart. The organ squelched and oozed fluid as he drove his fork and knife into it, cutting off a piece and eating it. "You know..." He started, chewing and swallowing. "...me better than I thought, Yuriko. So you know what I am...and what I do. What I must do to survive, yes? These hands have seen more blood over the years than a surgeon, yet..."
She didn't flinch as she felt his forefinger, still warm with blood, caress her cheek. Here he was, sitting before the young lady with bloodied hands and blood running down his chin, yet she didn't show any fear. If anything, she...cared for him. "...you've shown me no fear, even following my murder of your sister. So...I respect that. You know what I am, yet you do not fear me..."
"Of course, Lord. I'd give my life for you, if need be. I know exactly what you are, you are Death's Right Hand...I respect your position, and I understand what may happen if I were to disrespect or fear you..."
As the words drifted from her crimson lips, they hung in the air as if stuck there like a word bubble in a common book. The entire scene suddenly turns grey and Yuriko goes motionless...frozen in time. Cain looks straight into the camera, his eyes and the crimson blood the only things with any color in the scene.
"Suprisingly enough, Snow...I respect your kind words. Honestly I didn't expect it, as normally there are those who ridicule me...those who don't believe..."
He tilts his head toward the young blind woman who sat across from him, continuing. "...Yuriko here believes. Yuriko knows the power of Cain, and that is why she had survived for so long. For you see, there is such a thing as "healthy fear" and that fear helps to keep people alive. You, my darling, must be the most intelligent opponent whom I have ever faced on that respect."
It was true. Cain had to think back for a while, but as he did, he could remember a time when there was a woman who also respected his power, a woman who saw him for what he truly was. Her name was Martyr. She respected the warrior known as Cain, and like an old gunslinger, he showed that respect back. Respect earned lead to respect given back in his day, when warriors would fight to the death in hopes of impressing the emperor.
Cain leaned back in the booth, having finished his meal. The corner of his lip would pull upwards, brows arching. "There was a woman who saw what I possessed and she knew, like many others, what a destructive force I was. Your mother...if she is who I am thinking of...she was wise to see my potential, just as Vincent was wise to see my drawing power. These people, the sheep they are...they see what I am capable of and they buy the tickets to see me do what I do best. Destroy."
The warrior drew forth a pack of Marlboro cigarettes from the left breast pocket of his leather jacket. Raising the pack, he shook it, freeing one from it and taking it between his lips. Raising his right hand to the tip, he snapped his fingers...and his eyes flashed with fire for a moment. Puffing on the cigarette, the air around the warrior distorted a bit, as if some latent power had awakened within him. "My Dear Snow, you speak of my name being in the win column of your record books. You speak of it as if it is already set in stone, yet..." he puffs a few times, smoke wafting up from his nose and mouth. "...nothing is set in stone as it pertains to you. You're young. You're impressionable, never forget that. All threats aside, let's take into account the facts. Your..."w" as you refer to it will not come so easy as you would have me believe. You may be a small dog with a big bite, but you can consider me a form of euthanasia. You bite me...your teeth break. One by one, they tear from your gums...painfully."
His black pools were filled with a lingering darkness unseen before, even in Cain. Cain's smile would fade as those demonic orbs would flash once again, a bit of sweat rolling down the forehead of the warrior. The time frozen diner began to...tremble. The clanking of metal forks and spoons could be heard, plates sliding off the table and shattering in the floor.
"No matter what you choose to believe, trust that I am prepared for our encounter. Trust me, Snow, I would love to leave your internal organs in tact but the demon inside of me demands blood. It demands destruction, and after two millenia it is something I can nary afford to deny. Because Martyr is your mother, I will allow you to live...but I may not allow you to walk again. After all, you want to defeat me, to sully my name. Noone here has any idea of the Beast I was intended to be, and..."
He growled, his teeth gleaming in the light. "...I intend to show them. I suppose Martyr's daughter is as good a place as any to start."
With that, Cain would stand up from his seat and throw an undisclosed amount of cash on the table before Yuriko. Turning from the table, he would head toward the exit of the dinner. Cain would dissappear, and as such, the scene would return to normal.
Yuriko would try to sense Cain there...and as the scene would fade, she would call out a name. "Joseph?"
