Pain can change a person. It can make them into someone completely unrecognizable…allowing their other side to surface and take over…a side that is kept repressed deep down inside because once the monster is released the destruction and suffering that is brought with it is something the individual cannot be held accountable for. I believe Yoda said it best, fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to…suffering. The fear of losing the woman that you dedicated yourself too eventually becomes anger when she decides to leave and begin a new life, dumping you like you are worthless. The anger of feeling like you are worthless leads to a hatred of both parties involved in the deceit and deception. This hatred burns and festers causing a suffering…an immense amount of suffering…but this suffering isn’t confined to just one individual…oh no…it is released when the monster inside makes it’s appearance.
(It is night time in St. Louis, the street lamps the only illumination on the streets. Kitt is sitting in a car, leaned back in the seat with his hand supporting his chin, tapping the side of his face with his index finger. His eyes are filled with intensity and focused on the street in front of him. Around the corner comes a couple, hand in hand, laughing and smiling as they make their way down the sidewalk. It’s Jack and Kelsey who now is about 7 months along. Kitt slowly leans up in the seat and opens his door, stepping out underneath the street lamps, casting a lingering shadow in the direction of the couple. The couple looks up and sees Kitt, the smiles disappear quickly from their faces. Kitt begins walking towards them, blocking out everything around him and focused completely on the two individuals in front of him.)
Jack: Kitt, listen to me. We don’t want or need any trouble. Get back in your car and leave us alone.
(Kitt continues to walk towards them as he begins to speak.)
Kitt: Leave you alone? Like you left Kelsey alone when you knew perfectly well that we were married? Like you left my life alone when you decided to steal away my wife? The woman I FUCKING LOVED!?
(Jack lets go of Kelsey’s hand and holds up and hand for Kitt to stop. Kitt continues on and grabs Jack by the shirt, slamming him against the brick building behind him. Kelsey turns with a look of fear towards Kitt and Jack.)
Kitt: You completely fucked me Jack! You took the one thing that I had left good in my life and you ruined it!
Kelsey: KITT! STOP! STOP IT NOW!
(Kitt turns to look at Kelsey. The look of fear now replaced with a pleading look for him to stop and not cause any trouble. Kitt loosens his grip on Jack and releases him, backing up a bit, never taking his eyes off Kelsey.)
You try to reason with yourself. Have I gone mad? Has the switch been tripped to send me into insanity? I couldn’t answer these questions…all I know is the voice inside my head wanted to let everything out. Release it all and let the anger take over…
What are you doing? This guy just destroyed your marriage…took away the last bit of happiness from your life…you going to let him get away with that? You think he gives a damn about hurting you? He knocked her up. He banged your wife and basically…got away with it.
No…it’s not right…this is crazy…asinine…
He tried to take everything from you…I’m sure he even had her in your bed…giving everything to her in the process…(laughing)…and you are going to let him walk away free as a bird. No, Kitt…you make that bastard pay…he had no problem making your wife scream…now it’s your turn to make this little bitch scream…
That’s when it hit me…I lost it…the other side of me took over and…and…
(Kelsey stares back into Kitt’s eyes and watches as they slowly lose connection from sanity and glaze over. Her eyes widen as she opens her mouth but no words come out. A wicked smile crosses Kitt’s face as he turns back to Jack and punches him in the mouth, one right after another. Kitt slams Jack’s head off the brick wall and his body crumbles to the sidewalk in a heap. Kitt turns and heads back to the car as Kelsey bends down over Jack who has blood oozing from his mouth and a gash on the back of his head.)
You know what to do Kitt…this is what he deserves for such a vile act…
(Kitt reaches the trunk and opens it, reaching inside. Kitt pulls an object out of the trunk and holds it in front of him admiring it as the street lamps shine down allowing the shiny metal parts to glisten in the pale light…a Louisville Slugger wrapped in razor and barbed wire. Kitt drops the bad to his side, allowing it to scrape the pavement as he walks back slowly towards the couple. Kelsey looks up and sees what Kitt has now in his possession...it’s not the first time she has seen him wield it, nor the first time she has seen the destruction Kitt has caused with it. She helps Jack to his feet and tries to help the wobbly man down the alleyway between the buildings. Kitt laughs as they are not getting away and he comes in closer. Jack screams as the barbed wire and razor wire pierces his back. Jack drops to the ground as Kitt continues to slam the bat down on his body, blood and bits of flesh flying. Kelsey runs into the night, door to door trying to find help. Kitt slowly walks out of the alley way, covered in blood, a smile on his face.)
Suffering…can be therapeutic…
(Kitt springs awake. Alex grabs his arm and he turns quickly towards her.)
Alex: Baby, you okay? You were talking in your sleep, tossing turning.
Kitt: Yeah…yeah. I’m good.
***SCENE CHANGE***
(The scene opens at the Kennedy mansion, Kitt walks in the front door, Kitt dressed in a black suit and tie. Today was the funeral for little Johnathan and his dad, Kitt attended to pay his respects. Kitt had the opportunity to meet Johnathan’s mother, a very kind woman who greatly appreciated him taking the time to attend a funeral for a little boy, a fan, that he had never met. Kitt had left an autographed picture lying on the casket to be buried with the boy…it was the closest that Kitt could get to meeting and making Johnathan’s wish come true. Johnathan’s image was still burned into Kitt’s mind…you just can’t shake a horror like that, it stays with you forever. Kitt loosens his tie and walks into the den, pouring himself a drink. Kitt just stares down at the contents of the glass, reflecting on the day and the impact that it has had on him. Kitt takes a drink from the glass and slowly paces the room.)
Too young…way too young to be lost. It’s eating at me. It is infuriating me. Shit like this should never have happened. It must never happen again…I won’t let it happen again. Johnathan must be avenged…it’s up to me…there must be pain…there must be blood…at all costs this maniac must be brought down.
(Kitt continues to slowly pace, the contents of his glass getting lower and lower when something catches his eye. Kitt stops in his tracks and a look of confusion comes over his face. A note. Kitt makes his way over to the neatly folded paper on the coffee table by the couch. He reaches down and picks up the paper that simply reads ‘Kitt’ on the outside. Kitt sets his glass down on the table and begins to unfold the note. He begins to read.)
To go on a Witch hunt, you must have the proper tools to annihilate what you are looking for. You know what you need, but the only thing is you don’t know is where to locate it. You can find it Kitt, deep in the darkest depths where there is no longer Organization, just like the fire that burns deep inside of you that fuels the sadistic, twisted side of you. You can see it Kitt, if you just close your eyes…
(Kitt stares at the note and is lost in thought.)
Darkest depths…no longer Organization…sadistic, twisted side of you. What the hell? What does it all mean? You can see it…just close your eyes…
(The confusion slowly leaves Kitt’s face as it makes sense to him. His tool of annihilation…destruction…suffering.)
But…how can it be there? It’s been missing since before my match with Bearded War Pig…it was just…gone.
(Kitt rushes out the door of the mansion and quickly hops into his car. No need for a chauffeur, this was urgent. Kitt races into the city and finally pulls up to a familiar building. Chuck’s house. Kitt flings the car door open and rushes up to the door, letting himself in without knocking. Chuck’s place is quiet and it appears that no one is there. Kitt makes his way down into the basement.)
The darkest depths and the Organization is no longer here. Of course, it all makes sense. This is where my sadistic, twisted side was able to reach it’s full potential.
(Kitt continues to search the basement and he walks to the last room on the right and opens it. There sits the old wooden box where his favorite weapon in the world was stored the last time he found it. He rushes to the box, rips off the lid and…it’s empty.)
Kitt: What? Where…where the fuck is it!?
Looking for something, baby?
(Kitt whips around to see Alex standing in the doorway, smiling.)
Alex: I believe what you are looking for is over there.
(Alex steps back and points to a heavy carboard tube. Kitt makes his way over and pulls the lid off the tube. He reaches in and, like King Arthur pulling out Excalibur, he slowly pulls out his custom Louisville Slugger.)
Kitt: How did it get back here?
Alex: I took it before your match with BWP. I thought it was for the good of all of us but I see that you have a side to you that can be a bit…. (smiles) …edgy. You need this Kitt, I was wrong for ever hiding it from you. Between Chuck telling me about your past and hearing you talk in your sleep the last couple weeks, I knew this is what you needed…this is who you are sometimes…I didn’t understand it all Kitt, I wish you would have told me the hell that you have been through. But this is now….this is for Johnathan…this is for righting a wrong. Witch Doctor will never know what hit him.
(Kitt chuckles to himself, admiring his old friend once again.)
Kitt: Oh yes…yes he will. He has opened a door that he will wish he never touched. He talks in his little riddles, thinks his face paint scares me….right here is the answer to his riddles and I want to give him a makeover…I think a crimson mask would look great on him…
(Kitt looks at Alex, the smile never leaving his face. He swings the bat down to his side and lets it drag the concrete floor as he reaches for Alex’s hand, heading for the stairs that lead out of the basement. The razor blades and barbs leave scratch marks on the concrete as they walks away.)
Kitt: Playtime…is over….
