"In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present."
- Francis Bacon
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Monday
Dawn
The city is still dark as the light from the rising sun to the east slowly rises above it. The streets are empty yet the air is fill with the noise of the bustling city. A dark cloud hovers above the coliseum, as if the stadium itself was producing it. The Doctor stands outside of it looking up at the sign on the front, advertising the even to come later in the evening. Monday Night Madness. The smoke from his cigar rises into the air and becomes one with the single dark cloud above. The Doctor walks up to the front gate and enters.
The grassy field and bleachers surrounding the inside are empty. The lines on the field painted with lines from the former weekends events. The Doctor reaches the 50 yard mark and stops.
Doctor D'Ville- Hello, my friends. As time grows thinner by the second and we all begin to gather in this city, I have been waiting. Much like the cloud you see above this stadium, I wait to release what perhaps could be a hell storm upon you all. In less than twelve hours, myself and two others meet at perhaps this very spot, and go face to face with three others.
The Doctor throws his cigar into the air and it bursts like a firework. It sends sparks and tiny balls of fire down to the ground. The fire ignites and seems to follow a trail surrounding the Doctor. The Doctor takes a drink from his flask and stands in the middle of this ring of fire.
Doctor D'Ville- My dear, Miss Silver. Why have you forsaken me all of a sudden? We were doing so well in our sessions and I foreseen great things in our future. But you refuse to return my phone calls, you refuse to come see me, and you refuse to even let it known you still exist. How unfortunate. Am I worried? Of course, not. Not for my well being anyway. For yours, however... A bit. As your doctor it is my duty to see signs of your on going progress and we've seemed to have lost a few steps. My dear, your absence has only shown me that your priorities are lost and everything I've said before are true. You believe, even without a slight hint of effort, you deserve the world. Well, let me shine some light on that for you. Did you deserve to be a winner two weeks ago at Relentless? I don't believe so. If it wasn't for the heroism of one, Luke Gunnar, you would have fallen just as the other 9 competitors did. And did you deserve to be even close to the last one standing in our last battle royal in Columbus? Again, obviously not. You were disposed of just like the trash you fill your life with. The things you own end up owning you.
The flames raise even higher as the Doctor paces around inside of them. The lash out at him as if he controls their every move. The light shines off of his face and his eyes glow red.
Doctor D'Ville- Do you hear that? Listen. A cry for help?
The Doctor looks across the field and sees a small tent with a small crowd gathered around it. Chris Fame stands with a child hand in his as they stare down towards a casket. The Doctor walks through the flames towards the tent. Through the crowd he goes and to the casket. The casket opens to reveal the corpse of one Hope Sims-Fate.
Doctor D'Ville- Well, hello my dear.
The woman's eyes open and she smiles as she looks up to the Doctor. He extends his hand and helps her out from her grave. Calming orchestra music begins to play throughout the coliseum.
Doctor D'Ville- May I have this dance?
The two begin ballroom dancing through the field to the beautiful music. The people in the tent remain sobbing and mourning as they leave the scene. The Doctor speaks in mid-dance.
Doctor D'Ville- Mr. Fame, we meet again! Terribly, terribly sorry to hear of your loss recently. May her soul rest in peace? My friend, you are not the only one to give credit where credit is due and I will be glad to assist you with your current mental state. Grieving is common, even crying my friend, during this time. I am no shoulder to cry on but if there's anything else you need off your chest, I'm hear to listen. As for you, my dear...
The two continue to dance across the field into the ring of flame that the Doctor stood in before. He spins her around and lays her down across his knee. She smiles at him as the flames engulf and swallow them up.
