The typical happy hour time where people spend a few minutes saving a few bucks for some sweet ass. Ass meaning alcohol of course since that's how most of it taste to a holy tongue. Ass could also be referencing the individual taking a sip. So it's really just an ass-time. The fun events that followed memorial day not only took 'happy hour' to new heights, but it was an event that will forever be on peoples minds in the state of Washington.
It's a beautiful day.
Three kids are playing video games inside. Not X-Box One or the Playstation 4. No, these kids were playing Sega Genesis and enjoying every second. If only they had some codes to level up or get past the evil creature they could not defeat. They would spend countless hours doing their best to end the enemy and be the first in the world to defeat this game. One of them began searching the internet for a way to do it and came across a article he could not believe. He researched it for hours trying to see if it were even true. Article after article were a testament that it was true. This game had no end. It was impossible to beat. It was designed that way. No codes available. No secret tricks. It was a game that was destined to never be beat and no matter how many people tried to prove that rumor wrong... no one did. You could call it "Shane : Forever Fucking Your Minds" since it seems Shane always finds a way to return... even after having his head removed by one Eli James not to long ago.
These three kids were no different. No matter how much they read about this game being impossible to beat.. they continued to play and prove the world wrong. Little did they know the game had actually won yet again. It made person after person since its release it could be beat like any other game except it would be just difficult. Years would go by and no word came of it being beat. New gaming systems would be released and new difficult game challenges would rise and fall. This game remained undefeated. It lost battles. People had victories hanging over the game level by level.. one step closer to calling the entire war over... and yet would give up.
Memorial day would prove to be something different for everyone in Washington State. It would place the state on the map. It would change the course of that state. It was just another day.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
Paul slams his right palm over his alarm clock that shows 8 o'clock in the morning. School was out and his only plan was to sleep in. Well, sleep in and play some games with friends. Paul and his two friends were not only good at video games, but were considered legends. You know all those damn Megaman games that seemed impossible to beat? They beat them all and were cocky as hell about it. Ducktales on Super Nintendo? Yeah, they beat that. Every Mario that's been released. Every game of war. Every... game... released... they had won. They were about to go purchase a few games for the two new systems they had in their possession: Playstation 4 and X-Box One. While they were inside browsing at the latest game ready to be destroyed by the great trio... they overheard a conversation that sparked their ears.
The three leaned closer and started hearing of a game they never knew. They were puzzled. They thought to themselves, "how can there be a game for sega that we've never played.. or never heard of?!?". They quickly asked if the place had this game. They did, but warned the kids not to play it. It couldn't be beat.
Challenge accepted.
They took it home and the three began their journey. Hours turned into several hours... even a day.. and finally they arrived. It was the last level they heard about and were ready to walk back into the store with cocky faces to let them know they did the impossible. Their arrogance was slowly dying. All their experience... all their life of winning... they were losing. They were failing.
And while they were failing... their parents were at a bar during happy hour.. making complete asses of themselves.
Some of the adults decided it was 'freedom weekend' and went a little bit to the 'extreme' side of their normal life. By extreme I mean they did some drugs they haven't done in twenty years. They almost felt like they were in high school or college once again. Noses were covered in white powder. Substances were resting underneath a tongue. And the alcohol just kept coming.
Ding. Dong.
The boys hear an unexpected doorbell. They almost ignore it to the point they never heard it. They were focused on beating this video game while their parents were gone for the weekend. It was their mission to do this.
Ding. Dong.
The boys continue to sink their eyes on the television screen.
Ding. Dong. Ding. Dong. Ding. Ding. Ding. Dong.
Whoever this was, they were not going away. Paul did the unthinkable. He pressed "start" to pause the game. His two friends weren't happy as they thought they were just getting in the zone, but Paul knew the bell wouldn't stop. He answers the door and a man stands before him. A red and white 'hawaiian' shirt. A black fedora sits upon his head. In his hand is a video game guide to the game and a large pizza in the other.
"I hear you boys are tryin' to beat a game that's impossible. That true?"
"Yea. We're gonna beat it too."
"I see. Ya know, I've heard it was designed as unbeatable.. and yet you still are tryin' to beat it."
"We're going to beat it."
"I helped create this game. I figured no one else wanted to play it until I received word it was sold. I figure I'd come see who took the challenge and bring them something to enjoy."
"You helped make the game???"
"Yes."
"So you know the truth about it?"
"Yes I do, Paul."
"So is it unbeat.. wait.. how do you know my name?"
"You only get one question, Paul. Do you want to know how I know your name or if the game is unbeatable?"
"Is the game unbeatable?"
"There's only one thing in life that cannot be defeated, Paul. Everything else has a weakness."
"I don't understand."
"How about you let me inside your beautiful home... I give you this pizza.. and I tell you what I mean. Then, who knows, I can watch you play my creation."
"Okay."
Paul let the stranger inside his home with a pizza in his hand. Paul had to explain to his friends who he was and what he told him about being the creator of the unbeatable game. Paul's two friends eyes lit up. They were excited. Not just because the creator was in their home, but he brought them pizza. This was the life. Video games and free pizza.
The man decided to sit and let them play the game before he would answer any questions they may have. He wanted them to start at the beginning and without hesitation they did. They wanted to impress him with their game play and how quick they were to get through levels. The man watched with a smile as he saw how intense these kids were. It was real life to them. Life and death. All the man saw was three kids playing his creation even if they had no chance of winning in the end.
Hours go by... and finally they hear the man say the news that was confirmed by articles.
"Well, ya made it to the last level."
This excited the boys so much. It was a moment of realization. They were, in fact, at the final level and felt they were nearing the end. The man watched this try to finish the level over and over again. Nothing. After some yelling at the television and arguing with each other... it was time for the man to answer their questions. Since it was Paul's parents house.. he took the initiative.
"You gonna tell us?"
"Everything is beatable except the creator."
"What do you mean?"
The man decided it was a perfect opportunity to tell them about something worth more than beating a video game. He told them about the Almighty. The kids listened, probably because they wanted to hear him say how to beat the game. After several minutes of talking about Almighty.. Paul interrupted...
"Sir, I don't want to be rude but my parents go to church sometimes. We know about God. Can you tell us how to beat this game, if its possible? That's all we want."
"Let's make a deal. I'll tell you the answer if you tell me that your parents are sinners and deserve death."
The boys faces showed confusion. "Is this all the man wants to hear for us to beat the game?" They started talking quietly among themselves. They didn't see much harm in just saying what he wanted to hear. After all.. this was their moment to make history for themselves.
"We'll say it, but you have to at least let us know if the game is beatable. If it's not, then there's no point right?"
"It's... beatable."
That's all they needed to hear. Without a second in between.. they followed with their part of the deal.
"Our parents are sinners and deserve death."
"Smart kids."
"TELL US HOW TO BEAT THE GAME!."
"Roll your d-pad in circles while tapping the B button. Follow the instructions. You boys have a nice rest of the day."
The boys got extremely excited. The man left. The boys did what he asked and it was done. The game that was unbeatable had been beaten. They were jumping with excitement and talking mad shit. The man heard them screaming and decided to do them another favor. He turns back and goes back in the room.
"WE DID IT!"
"You did. Here..."
He hands them another game.
"What's this?"
"It's the second game in the series. This too is... how do others say.. unbeatable.. but I think you can do it."
The man leaves the boys to try and play the new game. Their confidence was at an all time high.
Back at the bar.... everyone is high and drunk.
A stranger walks in the room....
"So this is where you all are? Your children were right when they prophesied. They said you were all sinners and deserved death. Ya'll are covered in sin. The top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Your heart.. your mind.. it's so wicked. You let your children play games so you can sin. Heh. That's fine. Your boys just learned without the d-pad and B.. there's no winning. The Cross and the Blood is what covers ya. Right? Ya know your children said you deserved death... I think they're right."
Memorial Day. It was the day many children in Cosmopolis, Washington that became orphans due to an expected fire in many bars across the city that took their parents life. It was reported that an orphanage called "The James Orphanage" took all the orphans in who were left behind.
Eli James places his pen down on a book.
"Sometimes a parable has many truths, and other times just one. Who knows? Maybe it was a true story.. or maybe it was just made up to get points across in an illustration. It's not really your job to find out if the story is actually true or not.. it's your job to have ears to hear the truths being told.
Three boys want to take away the Trio Titles from myself, Azrael, and the Dimallisher. They more specifically want to kill Eli James. Mark has jumped on the wagon to get rid of this 'bump in the road'. Let me give you the ultimate truth. You cannot kill me or end me. No matter what you try and do.. you will never succeed at that. It took 17 people that came together and try and end me.. funny for just a jump in the road.. and yet here I stand.
So many have come and tried their best to end me.
Nero. John Austin. LJ Havok. Andrew Morrison. Cam Lang. John Raide. Angelus. The Brotherhood. The Black Circle. Etched. The Company. And this bump in the road still stands.
Now, the coke heads get a dose of being sober.. back to reality... and will die in their sin. Maybe not today.. and maybe not tomorrow... but in the end.. the Creator always stands."
