Pryce Towers
Theo Pryce’s Office

As the scene fades in we see Theo Pryce pacing around his office. Isabel is sitting in one of the two leather chairs opposite Theo’s desk a note pad and pen in her hands. Sitting on the couch about 15 feet from Theo, her waist expanding by the day is Erica, Theo’s sister, Pryce Industries VP and the baby momma to a future NAZI. Or so Nathaniel hopes. Theo’s look is a little disheveled, no doubt a byproduct of his increased booze and cocaine use over the course of the last few days.

“Just so we are all on the same page here, you are telling me that you are a little behind schedule”? Again?” Theo says, practically screaming into his telephone, which is on speaker, thus making screaming a bit redundant.

“Yes sir that is what we are telling you.”

“Well let me first start off by saying that the two of you have to be the stupidest mother fuckers this side of Davy Pryce.”

“Who is Davy Pryce sir?”

“It doesn’t matter who Davy Pryce is, just know that I know who he is, and that I think very little of his mental capabilities. Now, knowing that, what do you think that says about you two assholes?” The veins in Theo’s head are on the brink of popping out of his head. Isabel is feverishly taking notes while Erica sits on the couch shaking her head in disgust.

“That you don’t think very highly of us either.”

“That’s right shit for brains I don’t. I told you a week and a half ago that you had two weeks to get this project done. Two weeks more than you should have ever gotten. I gave you all the resources you needed, people, money, food and drink and I told you that if you didn’t get the job done I would destroy everything you hold dear. Now, with the drop dead date being 3 days away are you really telling me that you won’t get this done? That I am going to have to make good on my promise? Is that what you are saying?”

“Well sir…”

“No sir that is not what we are saying.”

“And who the fuck is this speaking?”

“This is Mitch Williams’s sir.”

“Oh, Shit For Brains Number 2. And here I thought you were a mute since you’ve left your partner high and dry, letting him get the brunt of my verbal assrape.”

“Sir, what Gary is trying to say is that things haven’t gone according to plan but that we are fully confident that we will be able to meet your deadline.”

“Is he? Is that what Gary is saying? Because it sounded to me like Gary was about to sink the two of you, what did you hear Isabel?”

Before Isabel could even respond…

“Listen up assholes…” Theo’s face jerks around as Erica is now standing and screaming at the phone, her face as red as the devil’s dick. “Theo has been more than gracious with the two of you, you should both be out on the street looking for a job right now but he gave you another chance. I swear to God if you don’t get this done what Theo does to you will be child’s play compared to the hell I will bring down on both of you.”

Theo looks around like “what the fuck just happened?” His face is a mix of astonishment and amusement.

“Yeah, what she said. You have until Thursday gentlemen. Get it done. Or pray that you both die in your sleep because I promise you that will be the only chance you have of escaping this cluster fuck in one piece. Am I clear?”

“Yes sir.”

“Now I want to hear it from you Gary since you were the one that initiated this call.”

“Yes sir.”

“Good. Now get to work. The clock is ticking.”

Theo picks up the phone and then slams it back down on the receiver, ending the call.

“Erica that was lovely. Truly, if I could cry it would have brought a tear to my eye. That being said, I don’t think that in your current condition you should be screaming like that. It’s not good for the baby.”

“Shut up Theo.”

“Hey, no need to get pissed at me, I’m just looking out for you and baby Heinrich.”

“That’s not his fucking name and you know it.”

“Actually I don’t. You haven’t told me his name yet. Do you have a name picked out? Because if you do I would love to get some monogrammed shirts with his initials on them, you know, as a Godfather’s gift. I am the Godfather right?”

“What? Godfather? The kid hasn't even been born yet and already you are standing in as his Godfather?”

“You know me Erica, I like to be prepared. So, does he have a name or what?”

“He does not.”

“Well when you figure it out let me know, I know Lila is excited to get him something as well. She loves kids.”

“Yeah I get right on that.”

“Thank you. Now you should probably go back to your office and unwind a little bit. Go with her Isabel; make sure she doesn’t do any work for at least 30 minutes.”

“I don’t need a baby sitter.”

“Not yet. But in a few months you will. Now go and relax for a little while, that’s an order.”

“You’re ordering me around now?”

“You and I both know this is the right thing to do. Now go, put up your feet, have some cold water, maybe call your baby daddy and see how his day is going.”

Erica and Lila depart Theo’s office leaving Theo to collect his thoughts. Theo’s version of gathering his thoughts is pouring a stiff drink and downing it as if it were just water. A second glass and again, down the hatch without a seconds thought. Just as he starts to pour the third the doors to his office and in steps Lila, her face as radiant as ever, maybe even more so and yet her eyes betray her ever so slightly.

“Lila, what are you doing here?”

“We have to talk Theo.”

“Well that’s not how any good conversation starts. Should I pour you a drink?”

“No thank you.”

“Should I pour more into my own drink?”

“Maybe. Maybe not. How about you join me on the couch?”

“Is everything alright Lila?”

“I don’t know yet.”

“I see.”

“Come, join me on the couch.”

Lila walks over to the couch and takes a seat; she places her bag down on the floor and just stares at Theo. Theo stands at the bar, hesitating for a second and then walks over to the couch, opting to leave his drink at the bar.

“Lila are you alright? You look upset or angry, I’m not sure which.”

“I’m definitely not angry, not sure about upset, I guess that all depends on how this conversation goes.”

“I’m really not a fan of the way this conversation has started so hopefully it gets better.”

“I’m sorry, I’m just…I’m not sure how to even begin.”

“So then just say it. Don’t go into a long preamble. Just say whatever it is you want to say. It’s like ripping off a band aid.”

“That’s easy for you to say, you have no idea what it is that is going through my head right now.”

“You’re right I don’t. That’s why I want you to share it with me so that I can help you through it. Whatever it is, it can’t be that bad. At the end of the day we still have each other. Right?”

“Oh Theo,”

Lila puts her head down in her hands masking her face but while the tears can’t be seen the unmistakable sound of crying is enough to put Theo on back on his heels.

“Now I wish I had brought that drink over.”

“Theo this is no time for jokes.”

“In my defense I have no idea what this is a time for since you haven’t really told me much.”

“Theo you know I love you, more than I ever thought possible. The first time I ever saw you in that bar down town when you chased away those meatheads, I knew there was something special about you, something instantly pulled me towards you, as if gravity itself wanted us to be together.”

“I felt and still feel the same way, these last few months have been the happiest I’ve been that I can ever remember and you are a huge reason for that, the only reason in fact.”

“Theo I…”

“Is it your father? Did he say something to you? I think both he and I have let this upcoming match get the best of us a little bit. We’ve both said something that in retrospect we probably wish we hadn’t. I know I have, but I don’t want to speak for him.”

“This isn’t about him, or your silly match.”

“Then what is it Lila? Tell me, let me help you.”

“Theo…I’m pregnant.”

“Well then...here we are...”
