Dark brown eyes stared out over the city of Norfolk, following the vanishing headlights and taillights of the cars below. So many thinking about what they were doing to for dinner, some thinking about how they were working the late shift. None of them was thinking about how their lives could end with a drunk driver or if their families were being tortured by a serial killer. Pale fingers wrapped around the black handle of a sharp, silver knife as the man let out a soft sigh.
You’ve changed.
A small smile graced Zak’s lips as he kept his eyes following the roads, You sound surprised, Marcus.
I doubt I should be but considering you are refusing to take back your body and still allowing yourself a pulse, I can’t quite help it.
Father’s kingdom will soon belong to me. It’s just the point of finding the proper woman to bare me a son.
Marcus shuttered at Zak’s words, having heard the same words come from his forefathers, Be careful what you wish for, Zakarey.
I wish for nothing but Father’s title.
What of the woman?
Father took his by tricks-
Those tricks cost him his only chance to raise you and your sister. Speaking of your sister, have you seen her recently? Circenn had taken her to the vaults but he never returned with her.
Zak turned towards Marcus, his eyes flashing with a mix of emotions before they fell emotionless once again, He did what?
He took her down to the vaults in the main house. They were down there for several hours then he came back up, alone. I couldn’t even sense her presence in the house but there’s no sign she was ever in the main house vaults.
Zak watched Marcus for a moment, contemplating his next move. He knew he needed to kill, knew he needed to hunt but…this was his sister. It was always a known fear that Circenn would finally kill her but Circenn was too hung up on his dead mate to even consider killing her namesake.
What of her body?
Which one?
The real one, Marcus, the one she was born.
It’s still safe in the vaults.
Zak’s mind started racing with so many possible locations and bodies that his sister could be but not one stood out.
What happened that night Circenn took her?
Marcus hung his head and looked away, his voice never reaching Zak’s ears. Zak let out a soft growl and Marcus let out a muffled scream as he dropped to his knees, silky black smoke tangling around his body.
Answer me, Marcus. What Happened!?
Circenn ordered her to become Alexandra’s kill.
Zak stared at the blonde man in front of him, his eyes filled with rage, You didn’t stop him?
You know I can’t stop him.
Another strangled scream left Marcus’s throat as the smoke turned to chains in the DemiGod’s anger. Circenn had ordered his sister’s death, which was….grounds for revenge. Killing a demigod was a crime in the eyes of any God.
Circenn will-
He made sure she was brought back.
Brought back? Zak looked back over at Marcus, who struggled against the chains, Details. Now.
There was powerful magic that night. I could sense it the closer I got to the vaults. I heard a scream and the silence. Circenn came back up, told me he sealed the vault and to burn the body. Yet…what he handed me was quite decayed.
Decayed? She wouldn’t….
If her soul was transferred and the body not placed in the light….it would decay. Depending on how old the body was. The body he gave me…..would have belonged to a human from the same era as your namesake.
Zak growled softly and moved back towards the edge of the roof, looking back over the road. How could he have been so stupid….if his sister was truly gone, he would have seen her. He would have drawn her when he did the last set of paintings. Marcus’s strangled yelp cause Zak to look back with a twisted smirk.
Alexandra is your mate then….interesting….perhaps I should cause her the same pain you inflicted on her back when she was my mate.
Sharp white teeth reflected in the moonlight as Zak stepped closer to his former Sire, the knife hanging loosely in his fingers. The vampire struggled against the chains, his eyes never leaving the knife.
