Egypt: 2xx BC

The hot desert sun beat down on the backs of the slaves as they pulled the last stone into place. It was a dry, still heat. No wind to push it. The air around the sun wavered and the sand shimmered in the sunlight. The two old men stood back and surveyed the gigantic tomb which they'd built. An accomplishment thst would be observed for hundreds of generations to come. A pyramid, seemingly perfect in every way. One man turns to the other.

"It took so long. It took half our loves Rollo, but our master's shrine is complete!"

"Not a moment too soon, dear brother! I began to fear that we would end up like our brethren."

He said, looking over at the pile of bones circled by buzzards. What little flesh that was left on the bones was slowly being eaten sway. It was putrid, but scarabs and buzzards do not care. Rollo sighed and shook his head, looking at his brother.

"Indeed that would have been us, brother. Look at them, laying there. Peaceful now, at the very least."

"Seeing as how our task master caused their death, I doubt they're resting in peace Rollo. Like the others that monster has killed."

Indeed the men had been killed. Their deaths, they were not peaceful. Not in the least bit. You see, Pharoah had a hired hand who was feared amongst all of Egypt. Legend had it that he "dwarfed the pyramids whose very construction he oversaw". Legend had it that he "ate scarabs for breakfast and scorpions for lunch". Truly this man was feared, as boththe surviving slaves shivered at the thought of him.

"Perhaps he will let us go now that we've finished construction of his master's tomb, that son of a camel's shite. He killed Kiri!"

"Watch your tongue, Malin! You know he has ears everywhere!"

Rollo and Malin just froze in their tracks as they heard the hoofbeats of horses, and the squeaking of a chariot's wheels. Both men paled as in the distance they saw the silhouette of the massive man of whom they had spoken. Rollo looked at Malin and whispered.

"Do you see? Speak of the devil and he will appear, brother."

Of course, Rollo was correct. As the man pulled his chariot up near the two slaves, his visage became clearer. The monster of a man was almost seven feet tall, built like a mountain. He was pale, and scarred from the left side of his face, around his neck and down his chest. He wore a loin cloth, made of a lion's skin, and nothing else. As he stepped down from the chariot, both workers dropped to their knees.

"Lord Romulus."

"M'lord."

He simply acknowledged Rollo and Malin with a nod. Then snurled up his nose at the two as he looked at the massive pyramid before him. He stared for a moment, taking in the measurements. Eye balling their work. Looking for mistakes. Then, satisfied with the work, he turned to the two old slaves.

"Good work. Pharoah will be pleased."

There was no accent yet. Just a regular, monotone voice. Business like.

"Oh, we thank you m'lord! It took half our lives to complete our master's work, but we did it. It was hard too, especially with just Malin and I. But we did well for our master, we did!"

"Are you...complaining?"

Romulus sneered at the grovelling slaves before him. No sympathy in his eyes.

"No sir! Not at all, my brother was merely stating our dedication to you and Pharoah!"

The giant shook his head as he watched the sun beginning to dip closer into the horizon. He began to mount his chariot, until Malin spoke up once more.

"Ummm...m'lord. About the matter of our freedom..."

He just looked at both of the men, disgusted. He was the Pharoah's Enforcer. The baddest man in the kingdom, and here were two lowly slaves, begging him for their freedom. He was disgusted. But he suddenly began to grin. A grin that would make any man uneasy, but to Rollo and Malin it was one that meant they'd possibly be free. Their excitement grew as he spoke.

"You wish to be free?"

"Yessir, more than anything! We spent twenty years building this pyramid and are honored to serve the pharoah, but we have families we wish to return to."

His lips curled upwards into a sadistic grin.

"Very well then. I shall set you free."

The next thing and last thing the two tired men saw was the flash of a scimitar. The last thing they felt was the blade slicing through their flesh like a hot knife through butter. Their screams echoed into the night, blood spraying in the moonlight. Romulus huffed after his murderous action, cleaning his blade.

"Hrmf...peasants."

He licked their blood from his own hands, and turned. The man mounted his chariot and rode off into the night toward the royal city, to tell the pharoah of the "termination" of his last two slaves. The Beast of Berlin was always cruel, since long ago. This was a prime example.
