I knew it. And somewhere deep down inside of my being I think Eli knew it too.

I warned Eli for a while that Mystica was going to leave us. He ignored every word I had spoken like he couldn't hear me at all. I think Eli already knew the man who had grown alongside him the last several months was going to betray him. Maybe Eli didn't want to believe it, or maybe he just let it play out and refused to rush it himself. Mystica had a similar struggle from within like myself, but he allowed the diverse to overtake him. I don't plan on going anywhere. I'm beginning to realize the struggle I live with each day is to build me into what I should have been all along.

I am not apart of this world. I was never meant to get married, have a few kids, buy a house, and live the average life. I was born into the mess that is my life for a reason. I was left to be raised by foster parents. I was a wolf trying to be raised by little house trained dogs. I could only be tamed for so long, but eventually the instinct of my calling would come out. I'm not just some man with a mask covering his face. I'm not just some man with a strange personality. The psychiatrist that Eli brought to me would love for me to be that. He could diagnose me and try to treat me for some symptoms. It's just not that easy. I don't have a virus, disease, or personality disorder. I am simply not apart of this trained system. I live in a darker world than no one could imagine.

I don't see evil. I don't see good. Both of those are parallel to me. There is only life and some are just more evolved to accomplish the tasks at hand than others, and are willing to do anything to get it done. I'm seen as evil and dark for various reasons. Eli was right. People think of stereotypes or try to label to make them feel more comfortable. Their eyes have not yet been adjusted to what is before them, and it frightens them. It frightens them so much they conjure up these words to call you so it appears normal. What fools. They ignore the reality and send their mind into a world of imagination. They need to explain the unknown so they feel safe. They want to explain the unknown to seem intelligent. We know what lies behind our eyes while they play the guess game. I must say it is entertaining to hear what great idea people come up with.

When the temperature drops, people run to get warm. They put on extra clothes. They turn up the heat. They do whatever they can to survive and stay away from the chills. I don't do any of those things. I embrace the cold. I don't seek the comfort of warmth in hopes to survive and not get a little sickness. I survive no matter what. I don't need what others need to keep them in the comfort of their world.

Here I am. I'm sitting in this place that has a nicely controlled temperature that stays where you set it. I'm not use to this. It's below 30 degrees outside and this would cause most to seek shelter as quickly as possible. I was surprised by being drug into this man's home so he can talk to me. I'd rather be outside eating something fresh.

The room is quite cozy. Elisha refuses to make himself 'comfortable' like normal people. Instead of sitting on the couch or chair, he has decided to sit in the floor with his Lacey doll clinched tightly to his chest. The newly prescribed doctor to attend Elisha's issues steps in the room. Its beautifully smooth looking wood floors have a shine to them that reflects everything. The leather couches look as if no one had sat in them for quite some time. A nice fire place is lit to keep the room nice and warm in case the electricity goes out due to the snow storm. Elisha is rocking back and forth without making a noise. The doctor comes out dressed somewhat nicely and just looks at the so-called troubled man Elisha.

"So, you are Elisha. I've heard quite a bit about you. I'm Doctor Sellars. It's very nice to finally meet you."

He gets close to Elisha with a smile on his face. He extends his hand to Elisha looking for a shake, but Elisha simply starts to rock slower. He tilts his hand a little bit and looks at the Doctor. No words are exchanged between the two nor any physical contact. Doctor Sellars pulls his hand away and decides to sit on the floor next to Elisha. Elisha continues his rocking pace without speaking a word.

"I'm a friend, Elisha. I'm here to listen to anything you want to tell me. I'm here to help you discover some things deep within yourself that you may have never thought about. Let me help you, Elisha. Okay?"

Who does this man think he is? Does he know what happened to the last so-called Doctor Eli tried to get me to share my feelings? I doubt he does or else he may be second guessing sitting near me. Another man wanting to look inside my mind and try to diagnose me. Mommy won't like this guy.

"May I see that baby doll?"

He tries to reach in to take the doll away from Elisha, but Elisha squeezes the doll tighter. He looks up at the Doctor and finally breaks his silence.

"D-D-D-Don't t-touch Mah-Mah-Mommy. Diediedie. Die. Diediedie. D-Don't touch."

Elisha takes the Lacey doll's hand and hits himself in the face. Elisha's feelings look hurt. He bows his head in shame and he extends his arm holding Lacey towards the Doctor. "She" starts to "speak".

"I am terribly sorry Mister. My son can be rude at times. He just thinks he should be some mysterious and scary monster. Don't get me wrong, now. He can be at times, but you don't need to be afraid of 'em. So bring back that smile you had and let's have a good talk about my son."

"May I talk to you in private about .......... your son?"

"I don't talk to anyone in private except my son. Whatever you need to say about him, you can say it in front of him."

"I must say this is fascinating."

"What is? A man and his momma? Or a man in a mask who eats the flesh off of animals?"

"Elisha? May I talk to you without your ......... Mom present?"

"Mommy no leave. Nononononono. No. No. Mommy stay."

"You know, Elisha, it's perfectly normal to have some sort of attachment to your mother but it's also perfectly normal to talk without her. It's important to me that you speak to me without her. Can you do that for me? She can stay, but she must stay across the room so we can have our conversation."

"It's okay sweetheart. Mommy will still be here. Let the nice doctor talk to you alone."

"Y-Y-Yes Mommy."

Elisha looks intently at Lacey for what seems like several minutes. He slowly gets up off of the floor and walks across the room to place Lacey on top of a piano. The doctor gives a smile and motions for Elisha to walk back over to have a seat in a chair. Elisha obeys and seats across from the doctor in the nicely cozy room. Elisha looks directly at the doctor without lowering his head like normal when talking to people. His mouth is open like he's starving for food. The doctor continues to stare back with a big smile on his face.

"So, Elisha, let's start about why you think.....

Eric Rex use to be the man I was, or at least it's who they told me I was. I've often wondered if that was really who I am. An orphan who lived among foster parents and had an estranged childhood. A man who learned survival techniques from serving in the Armed Forces. A man who had no real friends, except Sal. I wonder what he's up to these days.

Being alone since Eli had taken me to the barn and left me to live in a cave among the Promise Land has given me time to think. I've begun to examine myself and believe it was all a lie. Eric Rex's childhood wasn't mine at all. I was never at the same places he was. We were never in the same city, let alone country, at the same time. Now I wonder if anyone wants to know the truth. Does someone want to know who the real Elisha is? I am the deep dark monster that has no emotion towards anyone, except for the one person that knows me.

People have heard the long story of Eric Rex's genesis, but not so about the man in the mask.
