STOP OVER IN MIAMI, FLORIDA

EN ROUTE BACK TO NEW ZEALAND

Mastermind finds himself walking through what he thinks is a deserted Misfits gym.  He has decided to bring the group back together, if that is an option, and his first assignment if you can call it that, is to visit the group’s no nonsense manager.  Antony the Jerk.

Mastermind walks over debris.  The gym hadn’t been used in a while.

ANTONY THE JERK: “We aren’t open, I wish you people would leave.”

MASTERMIND: “It’s me, ‘M’.”

The door to the office opens and Anthony pops his head out.  He then completely comes out, and folds his arm as if he is angry.

ANTONY THE JERK: “Oh okay, what do you want?”

MASTERMIND: “To speak to you,”

ANTONY THE JERK: “Why?”

MASTERMIND: “Because I want to know if you are still interested in being the manager of The Misfits.”

ANTONY THE JERK: “You ran away back to New Zealand,”

MASTERMIND: “No. I didn’t run away, I just needed time out.”

ANTONY THE JERK: “Time out from the Misfits,”

MASTERMIND: “No time out from the XWF.”

ANTONY THE JERK: “I see, I see.  So I see you are back now, as of 4 matches ago.”

MASTERMIND: “2 wins 2 losses,”

ANTONY THE JERK: “And that you are going it alone,”

MASTERMIND: “Because everyone else has gone their own separate ways.  I wish to change that and bring them back together.”

ANTONY THE JERK: “Who was the one who ran?  Sorry should I say needed time out?”

MASTERMIND: “Me,”

ANTONY THE JERK: “Well if you want the whole of the Misfits back together then you have to be the one to do all the work, because they won’t listen to me.  They have all gone their separate ways.  Kris is back in Germany, Melanie is back in England, Scarlet has gone to Canada of all places, and Victor, well Victor has gone to Hawaii.  Find them, convince them, and maybe then I will manage the Misfits again!”

MASTERMIND: “I will.”

ANTONY THE JERK: “You have to convince all 4 to come back though,”

MASTERMIND: “Like I said I will,”

ANTONY THE JERK: “If only two or three come back, and I don’t really envisage that then I may be the manager.  I also know that you have a Television Championship to prepare for.”

MASTERMIND: “I do, I am going to prepare for that, as well as find the 4 missing links of the Misfits.  I need the Misfits back together.”

ANTONY THE JERK: “Well then, you know what you must do.  And you know where you can find me.  I suggest to get on with it..”

Antony turns and walks back into his office leaving Mastermind alone in the gym.  Mastermind shakes his head, turns, takes one quick look around the gym, and walks away.

The camera fades in to what looks to be a stadium.  A very empty stadium.  And in te middle of this cold empty stadium is a wrestling ring.  The camera focuses on a chair right in the middle of the ring, in the middle of the stadium.  Suddenly Mastermind walks into camera view, and he stands behind the seat.

He looks at the camera, and then he looks up. He once again looks at the camera but then presses his fingers to his mouth as if he is shutting someone up.  He whispers.  And the camera picks up the whisper.

“Shush……. Do you all hear that?”

Mastermind looks up, as if listening to what he suppose to listen to.

“That’s right, I hear nothing.  It’s silence.  Because when it comes to Ned Kaye there is absolute silence.  He doesn’t see me as a threat.  He laughs at my name.  He thinks an upcoming match with me will be a cakewalk for him, so there is silence.  He thinks he has won this match…. Already.  And yet we don’t hear from him, so for now I must…. I have to put him on the back burner, and so I will.  There will be a next time Ned Kaye.  Believe it.

"“At this very minute, my next opponent is the defending XWF television champion, Jason Cashe.  I have to compete in a Street Fight and to win another title.”

Mastermind walks in front of the chair, stares at the camera, and sits down.
Calmly he starts talking again.

“Jason when you face me, and oh boy you are going to face me, know this.  I have the passion, the grit, the will, and the hope, and the knowledge to know I can and will beat you.  I will win that Television Title again, because why?  You have been put on my path.  No one has been able to beat you, but I will.”

“You can doubt all you want, heck you can even be a skeptic, and you can scoff at what I am telling you because we all know what happens when we listen to people telling you that you are a failure, that you cannot do this, that you should not do this, that you cannot win, that you will simply die when we hear the bell because he is going to put you to the sword and win that match.”

“I laugh when I hear that.  Boy, do I laugh.  Since when have you known me to listen to any naysayers?  When have you heard me say that it is too tough, too hard, I’m too weak, I can’t do this, that this opponent is too strong?  When have you heard me say anything like that Jason?  When?  I implore you to stand up and say something because I am standing up, and I am  saying something Jason Cashe.”

“This match is mine for the taking.”

Mastermind laughs, and he lifts his head and looks around at the empty stadium.

“The fans want this, I want this, you seem to not want this!  Am I not on your level any more?  I guess I’m not, you are after all the defending Television Champion after all.  Heavens knows Television Champions.”

Mastermind continues to sit staring at the camera.

“The only thing that matters when it comes to our match Jason, is my faith.  I have to know that I can beat you, I have to know that I can out match you, I have to know that I can outlast you, I have to know all of this because I have what it takes to beat the great Jason Cashe.  That is my conviction when it comes to you.  That is my purpose and that is my resolve.  I have to rise against you Jason, and fight you until you are black and blue and ready to give up.  I may not be on your level, Jason but I am fighting for the title that belongs to you, and I want it… My willingness to take on Jason Cashe and win.”

Mastermind stands up, and the camera watches him walk toward the ropes.  He pulls on them, and turns back around to face the camera.  Then he walks back to the chair and sits down again as if he is at peace.

“This is my destiny Jason.  My destiny.  Not yours.  I need to beat you.  I have to beat you.  I won’t be happy until I face you .    You are in my way, you are in my eye line, and you want to go beyond me, but I am standing right in your way.”

Mastermind sits in silence for a few minutes, looking all around the stadium, at the silence, at the wide open spaces, at no one else in that stadium.  He then looks back at the camera.

“You need to picture something, Jason Cashe.  So picture this.  What happens when you and I clash?  There’s a word for it.  Chaos.  This match will be very chaotic.  This match will be brutal, and this match will happen. That is what I want to happen.  A chaotic element for this match to happen.

“You won’t be able to simply standby and wait for this match to happen, no sir, because I am going to bring it to you, right from the opening bell, and then you know that I mean business.”
“I will be fierce and I will not yield to you.  And you think you can dominate me, well think again.  Think about what you have done to me in the past, and then feel all that anger build, and I will unload on you.  Big time.  I am determined to take you down.  I am passionate that I will take you down.  I am over joyed that it has come to this.

“You’ve taken it upon yourself to be the mr good guy of the XWF.  You are no longer the good guy, I am not even a good guy myself.  I used to be, before the rot set in.  Before all of my losses, before others took me for granted, took me to being an easy beat, just misunderstood me.  That’s what you are going to do.  Misunderstand me.”

“You thought that me and you had ended long ago, no, no, no.  I was always coming back.  I was always coming for you.  You are one of my very few people that I wish to, no make that, that I want to, no, no, no, make that, that I need to take down once and for all.  Your previous victory over me, has caused a headache in me that I need to shut down.  Once and for all.”

Mastermind stands up, and moves the chair, and looks behind him, before looking at the camera again.

“Listen to me roar Jason.  Just listen.  Because when it comes down to it, Jason Cashe, I AM THE DEMON of your dreams, and I WILL BE VERY BRUTAL in the way I act to beat your sorry little ass, because when all is said and done, and I stand victorious my TIME HAS COME.”

Mastermind throws the chair out of the way, and walks to the ropes and climbs through them and disappears into the empty void of the empty stadium.
