Eli is walking along the wall made of thorns, briers, and bushes. As he walks by his hand is reaching out being cut by the thorns and briers. He starts to bleed a little but pays no attention as he continues. He stops for a moment and pushes his arm further into the wall.
"Here we go.."
Eli starts to walk straight into the rough wall. It's 2 miles thick. When Eli starts to get closer you can hear something that doesn't fit with the recent acts of Eli: children's laughter. You can hear children yelling at each other in good fun, the noise a swing makes, and a on-key children choir rehearsing for something.
Eli makes his way from the wall and once he does ... the children's attention turns to Eli and they run at him with smiles on their face. The playing, the singing, the arguing all stop when Eli arrives. Eli returns the smile and hugs the children one by one. One young boy asks Eli to tell them a story. The rest of the children follow and all begin asking in unison the same question. He can't resist.
"Alright, children. I'll tell ya all a story.. come with me."
Eli leads the way. The area would surprise anyone who is walking through all the trees and past the abandoned house. It's something you would find in a wealthy area. There's a large building that looks like a high school. It's been kept up nice. The lawn around the area is perfectly green and the right height. There's a nice area with playground equipment for entertainment like swings and so forth. Eli walks them to the play area and sits on a swing. The children all gather close by so they can hear Eli.
"Two children were born within the same month of each other, but not in the same area. One was born in the big city, and the other was born in an old town in the mountains. They were both educated. They both went through the early stages of life. Based on the appearance of the boys and families, there wasn't much difference. They grew up and found themselves a career. The boy in the city became an engineer. The boy in the mountains started his own construction company. One day their paths crossed. They had to work together and everything was normal as could be, until something so small changed everything.
After the two had a dinner together to talk about the job they were working on together.. they went outside.
'It sure is bright today. The sky is really blue,' says the boy from the city. The other had a funny look on his face. He replied, 'It's dark, not bright. And if the sky were visible, it's not blue but brown.' Both looked at each other in confusion. They both had to make sure the other was serious about his response, and they were. An argument ensued and it wouldn't stop. Ya might ask how did one come to the conclusion that the sky is brown since we've all heard it's blue? As a young, if you were taught from day one the sky is brown and grew up in that teaching then you're gonna think it's brown. It happens all the time.
People grew up being taught whatever their parents wanted their kids to know. Sometimes as they grow, the kids go on their own searching for the opposite; the others stick to it and the next generation continues. Everyone in this world has been taught somethin'. You are either with the group that sticks to what he's been taught or the one who ventures out to seek the truth.
I've been around for a long time... and even to those who go out to seek truth do it, not for truth, but to oppose an idea they didn't like. Very few go out in search of truth for the sake of wanting to know truth.
You all have been out there before I led ya here. You all saw the darkness where the sun cannot get through. You all saw the house. Many would stop and say there's nothing out there. Some would continue until they run into the wall of thorns and briers. Fewer would go in, but would quit after thirty minutes and think to himself there's nothing beyond this. The chosen.. the seekers.. are the ones who press on and find something great. You. Young who are ready to change the world if given the chance. I want to give you that chance.
There's a man I'm going to fight later this evening, and his name is Cain. At some point in his life his parents told him he was evil. They spoke to him as if he were the Cain in the old story of Genesis. He was led to believe all these lies, and instead of fighting, he just accepted it. He's weak. He is the one that sees the house and turns away never to push further. His imagination has carried his life and he's been consumed with it and lies.
You, my dear children, are different. You are being taught truth without having to go out and search for it. If you abandon it, then truth will make sure to blur the road when you go on your journey. "
"Mr. James, um... how do we know what we're being taught is truth?"
"That's a great question. Truth always stands against time. Truth isn't relative to the amount of people who believe in something, or what's popular... sometimes truth is hated. Sometimes truth isn't popular. Sometimes people get killed just for believing in truth. The way you know truth is to line it up against the other so-called truth, and see which stands."
A bell sounds. Eli encourages them to go back to class since it's about to start. The children run back towards the building, and Eli remains sitting on the swing. In the distance is a girl who is just standing by herself. Her outfit isn't the same as the rest of the children. Eli just looks for a few minutes to see if she moves, but she doesn't. He walks towards her. He stands beside her but never looks in her direction. He looks off in the distance like she is.
"Lacey. Ya made it."
"What happened to Elisha?"
"I'm not sure you're ready for that chat."
"I think I am. If ya don't want to tell me right now, then what happened to me?"
"What do ya mean girl?"
"You tied me up. You blindfolded me. I don't remember anything other than one day I was tied up, the next I was here sleeping with my head on a desk.. dressed in these clothes. No other kid wants to talk to me. What happened to me? Why don't the other kids wanna talk to me?"
"Maybe someone started some rumors 'bout ya. We'll have to find out why."
"Well, it's probably because the teacher mocked me..."
She takes her attention from whatever it is she's been looking at and turns her head to Eli. Eli turns his head toward Lacey and looks down. He smiles like he knows what she's about to say.
"And she's.... no longer around."
"Where did she go?"
"I'm guessin' she met the Almighty."
Eli has a big grin on his face. Lacey shows no emotion, and turns her head back to look off in the distance once again.
"Out of the mouth of a child... comes out prophetic words."
Eli places his hand on her shoulder and she leans on Eli as the two just look out together.
